Yeah, Pat SAID why — he wants this player specifically, on the team, long term. Hence why the Trade Value Gods didn’t need to be appeased.
Exactly. You either believe the player can still hold his own/figure it out, or you don't. If you do, than your offer has to be competitive with the other teams who also do so you can land him. This isn't a video game.

Says Anaheim is somewhere he and his wife liked the idea of being ever since he started thinking about potential trade destinations. Likes the fit and hopes he can mentor the young defensemen here in the same way guys like Stuart and Bogosian did for him in Winnipeg. Close with Vatrano and Strome, says Vatrano and him went to prom together and Vatrano lived with him in New York. His wife and Strome's are good friends

Oh boy, oh joy! He's going to be teaching guys like Mintyukov and LaCombe how to lead with the elbow.

This is a fine trade and shows Verbeek is actually interested in winning now.

Forget the future sometimes the future doesn't always work out.

After reading through everything, quite a reaction for a player signed for 1.5 years. IMO, Fowler trade incoming because he is open to it and Ducks will need to reach salary floor with cap going up. Defense needs more vet leadership and physical play. Vaakanainen and a 4th doesn't move the needle at all.

Super confused on why so many are upset about minutes? The Ducks are not trying to win the cup this year; it's a development year again. We want Verbeek to let players overripe and develop in the minors but then complain when they are not playing on the NHL team at the same time? It doesn't make sense.

The team hasn't been ruined, no one is being blocked, and they gave up nothing of real value. However, they did help the Rangers with their cap situation and then sign their all-star goalie. It might not seem like much but relationship building is a thing and when you need a lifeline, sometimes these things come back around.

Obviously more is coming so I feel like let's wait and see how things shake out. I definitely want to support Trouba and hope he plays well, helps guys develop, and plays clean. That's the best outcome for all sides.

Alexis is a great interviewer, she's been awesome for the Ducks.

I'm always curious to hear how a player talks when I listen to them for the first time. At times in that interview he seemed a little aloof, but the same time he sounded quite comfortable and I liked some of his responses.

I'm with others in that hopefully in some ways he'll make our goalies happier by clearing out the front of the net. Seen too many times this season with minty and zell being out muscled. Being that I absolutely want them to continue developing, this doesn't seem like an awful trade, no matter the level of overpay some people think this is.

Of course, I'm not trying to fool myself. Another slower player with some defensive lapses is going to be frustrating at times, but I like the level of camaraderie bringing him to the ducks will be for Strome and Frankie.

Is there something in the water on the east coast where fans choose to blame players for exercising their rights instead of holding the management accountable (see Cutter Gauthier)? Because I've seen some takes before but this one should be studied by whole departments of psychologists.

I think it’s the same thing that makes their bagels taste different

Would not be surprised if that’s exactly what’s up and it’s why Trouba chose to come to Anaheim. Given how he prioritizes his wife’s career it makes sense to me that he’d want to go somewhere he could stay for a while.
I expect that his wife will find career opportunities in the greater LA market similar to NYC if that was a factor in their decision making.

Ya that's a shit take. He put his family first and used his contract to his benefit. Nothing wrong with any of that.

Gets a contract to protect himself and his family. Org agreed to it, he agreed to it. I'll never blame a player for exercising their rights.

NYR Twitter is a f***ing human rights violation. The stereotypical AYYYOOOOO New Yorker that works in the city, lives on the island, and hates everyone is pretty much all of them.

I have no use for the ghouls that make it personal, whether it's Trouba or when they do it to Zibanejad. He's a nice man, and by all accounts from people in the know, was a very well respected leader.

For however much you value intangibles, he'll bring it to a young group. Just make sure you can do something with him when you become competitive.
