I mean have to hope he is motivated to prove everyone wrong. Ducks just got a lot more physical and now other teams will think twice about going after the Ducks kids with both Gudas and Trouba in the line up.

As if they weren't going to go after the youngsters with Johnston already in the lineup. Anyways, I mean to ask you as both a Ducks and Rags fan, how do you feel about this for both sides?

For me personally, I don't like it mainly because I feel like Verbeek should have asked for more at least. Also what does that do when you have to rotate 2 defensemen out on a nightly basis just to accommodate Trouba? Also an additional side effect, this deal might hamper Verbeek's ability to ship Fowler out assuming he already doesn't have a deal in the works.

I would agree. I think we dramatically overpaid.

I can't say I've watched enough of the Rangers over the last bit to really have an opinion on Trouba, but I'm hoping all of the negativity around his play is blown out of proportion by 1) his contract, 2) him being the captain, and 3) other teams fans hating him for hits. There's been so much off ice stuff with him and the Rangers organization that hopefully a fresh start will revitalize him and give us a good top 4 defender, because if not I really hate the idea of bringing him in to sit Helleson at the moment.

I also think it's funny to see how much shit he's been getting and yet his JFresh player card says he's a better defenseman than Lindholm was when we traded him lol.

Anyway, all the best to Vaaks who while vanilla, is a capable player and got lost in the shuffle. Hope he can find a home in NY.

I like this. Finally some more muscle, and whatever he is, he does have some leadership in him. Get Warren and Solberg shadow him at every opportunity, just inform to keep the elbows tight

He has been playing 20+ mins for a good Rangers team for years. They needed a shakeup and sure he has many flaws but I like this for us. @Leonardo87 I will trust your judgement the most tho.

In the 2012 draft, Hampus was surprisingly picked before Trouba.
Eventually we traded Hampus for Vaaks (hello-darkness-my-old-friend.jpg)
We end up tradeing Vaaks for Trouba

I wanted Trouba at 6 until Forsberg was available, will never forget when Hampus got his name called, was such a shock, especially with Fowler already on the left side. Even Dumba at 6 was highly talked about but I preferred Trouba

Not to mention how pushed around we are in front of our net, teams like vegas really show that. It’s been a pathetic and sad thing to witness. Show the young kids how to clear the net and protect your goalie

Vaak was likely waiver fodder. I care more about the 4th, but at this point I would gladly trade a 4th to make the team better now. Obviously they thought he made them better. It remains to be seen if its true.

Just throwing it out there that in the past few years the Ducks have taken a lot of guys the general consensus was that they were terrible and they played well for the Ducks. Especially defensemen.

Yeah I guess looking at them purely as assets, it does make sense to "sell high" on impending UFA Dumoulin while he's playing well and likely rebuilt some value. But it would be nice to keep a solid veteran when they prove to be a fit, all depends on the price.

Swapping out Fowler for Trouba just makes too much sense and has for quite some time, even if it now requires separate trades. I had proposed this last season Proposal: - Ducks - Rangers (Fowler/Trouba)
