If they announce Etem, Tokarski, and Theodore as being sent down in response to this, they will have room to account for that kind of situation so long as they reassign the person for days where they don't play games.

You're assuming the person is waiver exempt.

Two years of UFA are not worth an extra $28.5 million. The Ekblad contract is not good. There's no way to justify it.

I don't disagree, but it still is a big factor in how these contracts are valuated and structured. Helps explain to an extent the difference in caphit.

I expect Ekblad to continue to improve, and make that contract look better.

They could send some players down, fit Lindholm in, then exercise the LTIR on Thompson and have space to recall one or two of those players as needed.

The roster would still include spares though, I wasn't proposing we carry 18F 6D 2G.

I dunno, we haven't really seen a team run with close to zero cap space for most of a season before. Looks like you guys will be the guinea pigs to see how it works. My personal feeling is that it won't end well.

Capfriendly only shows LTIR relief for Simon Despres. Thompson and Rakell are not on the LTIR as of yet. The NHL wouldn't approve the contract if the Ducks didn't also submit moves to get them under their cap. Right now, w/o having announced what those moves are, they are roughly 1.9 or 2 mil over the cap when you account for the cap figure that Lindholm has this year if McKenzie is correct in his numbers. There will likely be three guys sent down in response to this.

Thanks. I misunderstood their injury sign to mean LTIR. Thompson to LTIR and Etem to the AHL would likely suffice.

For all those saying Lindholm's agent is a moron, did you ever stop to think that Lindholm took a discount to stay with the Ducks on purpose? Rakell had said something yesterday about talking to Lindholm. Hampus was willing to take a "home town discount" obviously to stay here. Can't wait to see Timon & Pumbaa reunited again. :yo:

There's nothing to say that a cap clearing move can't still be explored, but Lindholm can be squeezed in for the mean time.

Nope--they're planning for a lockout in 2020-21. That's the next season when the CBA might be terminated.

Makes sense to lower the salary for that season, and increase it in the others. Unless the team was going to guaranteed a large portion of 2020-21 in signing bonuses.

It's pretty pathetic that General Managers are factoring in a lockout into the payout of the contracts they are awarding. How in the **** does Gary Bettman have a job?

Pretty sure it would be the smart agent asking for that. The GM would just rubber stamp it since its a very small issue on a large contract.

The agent is the one factoring it in. Smart to mitigate the financial loss for your client on the chance there might be a lockout or strike. The GM would be more concerned about the cap hit then the year by year breakdown of salary out the door.

Had to figure this would happen soon. Anaheim's playing good as of late, with Lindholm back they could be a team to watch in the West.

Go ahead and expand on that.

It's not really the thread for that but it's pretty well-documented what he has done that are extremely positive for the league. But on topic, if Thompson is put on LTIR, I'm pretty sure one other move will need to be made to accommodate for the additional cap figure on Lindholm's first year.

Feels weird that he is earning only about $200K more than Vatanen and less than Jones and Risto. Also this makes the Ekblad contract look even more ridiculous.

Vatanen made 1.275M last season. If you combine hís bridge deal and his current contract you can see that Lindholm earns 10M more in the same time span (first 6 years after ELC).
