This guy is infinitely better than Rielly and Risto but they use their numbers to objectively determine his value and Hampus is the one that caves?

Better than risto? Maybe parallel.
Risto was a class act. He went to training camp and frankly made himself look like a massive baby face by doing so. Murray was forced to lock him up. Wouldn't surprise me to see him as a captain.

Holy cow what a good deal for Anaheim.

Wonder how Lindholm feels about his agent right now. "I know it'll cost you part of your season and put you in an uncomfortable situation, but the money will be huuuuuuge..."

He probably did get a bit more through the holdout. I'd bet Murray was pretty set on going no higher than Vatanen's cap figure, and didn't start really moving off of that until the season started. The cap hit is low for Lindholms potential, but let's not pretend he isn't making 6 million or more in three of those years. That's right about his value there. The salary he is actually losing out on is this season (only 3 million)
and 20/21 (which is lowered in case of a lockout)

Wow, this is certainly the year for taking advantage of RFA's. A bridge I could understand, but 6 years below value? I don't understand.

Look at his actual salary breakdown. It is 2 years pretty well below value, and 4 years at value. One of those below value years is this current season, and the other is a potential lockout season. He's definitely taking a large discount over the six years but its not as egregious as a lot of people are saying it is. It is a fair contract and a lot of money for a 22 year old RFA defenseman with little negotiating leverage who is still in the midst of proving he is a true #1.

Taking advantage of an RFA? Sure, a little bit. That is the purpose of RFA for young players in this day and age, and GMs should be trying to do it as much as they can to save money for the overinflated UFA contracts. Underpaid for 6 years? I don't buy that angle if you look at the salary breakdown.

Makes you wonder what kind of a ******, disrespectful contract Anaheim offered him before.

I think Murray entered the summer expecting both swedes to either sign bridge deals or sign long term; nothing in the middle ground there. For long term, he probably started at the contract he gave Fowler, then upped it to the realm of Vatanen's contract value. You can call it a disrespectful offer, or a skambud, or whatever, but that is just how negotiations work. Both sides initial offers are going to be offensive pipe dream figures, and over the course of weeks or months the two sides meet somewhere in the middle.

Lindholm and Lemieux were probably still around Ebklad money (7.5) and Murray was probably still around Fowler money (4) as late as June/July when Murray said the negotiation could take into August or September.

Not parallel at all, but I will give it to Risto. What he did was awesome for the fans and franchise and he got rewarded for it.

Yeah, my point was that are three are parallels.

The contract seems to be pretty fair to both parties in dollars and term...if Lindholm was good with 5.25, why'd the negotiation take so long? It was apparently said that he wanted a contract that wouldn't hurt the Ducks' ability to ice a competitive roster.

:naughty:
poor you, he's gonna be in your division for the next 6yrs ;)

your next nightmare will be Karlsson

Unless Melker somehow gets worse, I'll survive. ;) Or are you suggesting an (Erik) Karlsson trade to LA... for Dustin Brown... Then I'd really have nightmares.

the only reason why I've referenced to Karlsson, I've seen many post in reference t MTL on your end ;) ...

I would not be too worried if I were you, besides from Marleau & Thornton (retirement), your team is legit.... **Sigh**
