this would mean that the Ducks would actually be 1.8-1.9 million over the cap.

Capfriendly shows them at a shade over 1.4 mil over the cap. All they have to do is send down Theodore and either Tokarski depending on Bernier's health or Etem if he clears waivers.

Won't they have to do more than that when Depres comes back of LTIR?

Good for you ducks fans. Leafs fan here saying congrats for getting it done and at a VERY nice figure. You should all be happy with your GM, well worth the standoff to have Lindholm locked up at that figure. Congratulations.

Still interested to see who gets moved, but man did the Ducks get a nice deal

There's no need to move anyone as of now, sending down Etem + Tokarski + Dman makes enough room.

You've been ripping on our GM for awhile now, and here you are raving about this contract. Do you think maybe it would be good to retract your previous statements?

Yes, although it depends when he comes back.

Based on what happened last time; I'd be somewhat surprised if he comes back this year. He literally had concussion symptoms come up and he didn't even get hit.

So it lowers the cap hit after the first year? I find that very odd. In a way, it's somewhat beneficial to the team if they can deal with the first year's hit.

Did not know about this at all. I thought cap hit was a non changing thing like you could up salary from one year to the next but the hit would always be the same every year?

Wonder what the move will be to be cap compliant, and Despres will be back sometime this season you would imagine. Very interested to see what happens next.

The cap hit for RFAs signed after the first day of the season have 30k per day tacked onto their AAV in the first year. I'm guessing that the only way the NHLPA would agree to that is if it lowered the cap in subsequent years.

That is one weird year-by-year breakdown. Murray must be planning ahead for some RFA deals in 20-21.

It's not that they get $30k added per day. The cap AAV is adjusted by the % of regular season days the player is signed for.

The $30k figure was an estimate specifically for Lindholm based on a ~$5.5m contract.
