Complete speculation to my knowledge.
But at the same time any GM would be dumb to not get the input of his head coach. But input is far from having having the final say.

Pretty much, they are making it seem like DS has taken over DL's role or something lol

When the Kings make deals, they let DS make the approval, which is the way things
are probably done around the league. Problem is, DS prefers players he has a history
with, or was fond of their play, etc.

Ehrhoff - DS said, "I think of Ehrhoff when he was quarterbacking the PP for the
Canucks. He was a standout"...he probably looked over the list and preferred him because of that.
Ehrhoff was not the same player, the last 2 years, as he was then. I liked Ehrhoff then too!

Scuderi - DS - "he commands a lot of respect in the room" "I know what to expect from him" Great! The room IS very important. Playing at the level Scuderi did in 2012,
and now 36 years old, is 75% the player Rob was then.

Versteeg - DS "Have history with him...Brent and Ron (or one of the other brothers) know him well in Alberta and they sold their hockey camp to him" Great!!
What about him NOT playing a Kings style game and his being scratched and benched the last 2 playoffs in Chicago? 2 goals in last 27 playoff games?

DS should not get the final say in players being acquired!! He's too closed minded
for the unfamiliarity and not having connections of some kind.

You're picking some of the last few players that Kings have been able to get because they're up against the cap. What about Gaborik? Sekera? Lucic? Where's the history? Did he get final say on those?

Is this speculation or has DL said he gets DS's approval?

I don't know, but DS said those things...Of course when deals are made it's discussed with all of your staff. It would seem DS would give his approval for any player acquired - but he prefers players he knows or has some history with.

Pro scouts, GM Lombardi and Futa (aGM) and the head coach probably all need to be on the same page on basically every trade...

Since then a lot of time has passed and we traded away two 1rnd picks++ and still didn't fill the hole.
It's time to blame someone other by now. We knew the defense needed improvement since last years deadline and did squat about it...

Dean traded for a replacement in Sekera and failed to re-sign him.

There was nothing available this year. Who is trading away young #2 D's?

Still doesn't change the fact that we lost our #2 for nothing. Blame DL for mismanaging his cap with Richards and Brown, not for failing to replace Voynov.

I'm not even mad and I don't get all the doom and gloom.

We played the hottest team since ...November?...who is in the midst of a historic streak with everyone healthy and honestly we mostly outplayed them. I know the only metric that matters in the end is the scoreboard, but the goals for them were emblematic of what goes right when things are going well, and our inability to finish on a buttload of loose pucks is emblematic of what goes wrong when they aren't.

That was a great freaking hockey game between giants and it could have gone either way. That's all.

We are 20 points into a pacific playoff spot so I wouldn't expect much urgency from here on out, tbh.

"Money money money"

True, we're all prostitutes in that regard I suppose. You'd think he'd want to be on a champ team though, but he chose to cash out while he still could.

Hate how NMC's are being given out like candy to any old player nowadays, should be reserved for the top guys on each team.

Well I count that trade also as a part of mismanagement. It happens- it sux. Lombardi could have addressed the defense in the free agency/ offseason trade. He didn't even bother with the defense other then late signing Ehrhoff who just didn't work out.

I do hope Doughty and Muzzin (and to a lesser degree Martinez) get some support in TOI. Cannot hope to win playoff series if we go there with the best guys gassed...

Oh, also, I needed to update the Superstition-o-meter to account for Boudreau's 400th win and Brad Meier reffing, so this one is actually on me guys, it should have been -180% chance of victory rather than simply -30.

And yet Kesler still scores, though that was more due to atrocious gap control by Schenn.

Makes me wonder why the **** Sekera chose EDM over LA, it ****ing baffles me.
Probably didn't get an LA offer till basically free agency (Richards/Voynov cap situation)
With that contract offer from Oilers, the decision seems easier when you think about it. For that money he would sign with the Seals if needed and so would most of people (incl you and me)...

I actually thought McNabb looked really good too, thank goodness for the reduction in his minutes because he's a solid depth guy. Still think he can be a good long-term 2nd pairing option.
