Is this speculation or has DL said he gets DS's approval?
Complete speculation to my knowledge.
But at the same time any GM would be dumb to not get the input of his head coach. But input is far from having having the final say.
When the Kings make deals, they let DS make the approval, which is the way things
are probably done around the league. Problem is, DS prefers players he has a history
with, or was fond of their play, etc.
Ehrhoff - DS said, "I think of Ehrhoff when he was quarterbacking the PP for the
Canucks. He was a standout"...he probably looked over the list and preferred him because of that.
Ehrhoff was not the same player, the last 2 years, as he was then. I liked Ehrhoff then too!
Scuderi - DS - "he commands a lot of respect in the room" "I know what to expect from him" Great! The room IS very important. Playing at the level Scuderi did in 2012,
and now 36 years old, is 75% the player Rob was then.
Versteeg - DS "Have history with him...Brent and Ron (or one of the other brothers) know him well in Alberta and they sold their hockey camp to him" Great!!
What about him NOT playing a Kings style game and his being scratched and benched the last 2 playoffs in Chicago? 2 goals in last 27 playoff games?
DS should not get the final say in players being acquired!! He's too closed minded
for the unfamiliarity and not having connections of some kind.
Since then a lot of time has passed and we traded away two 1rnd picks++ and still didn't fill the hole. This is now a **** you Voynov thread.

Pro scouts, GM Lombardi and Futa (aGM) and the head coach probably all need to be on the same page on basically every trade...Complete speculation to my knowledge.

It's time to blame someone other by now. We knew the defense needed improvement since last years deadline and did squat about it...
Makes me wonder why the **** Sekera chose EDM over LA, it ****ing baffles me.

"Money money money"
Well I count that trade also as a part of mismanagement. It happens- it sux. Lombardi could have addressed the defense in the free agency/ offseason trade. He didn't even bother with the defense other then late signing Ehrhoff who just didn't work out.Dean traded for a replacement in Sekera and failed to re-sign him.
There was nothing available this year. Who is trading away young #2 D's?
Still doesn't change the fact that we lost our #2 for nothing. Blame DL for mismanaging his cap with Richards and Brown, not for failing to replace Voynov.
Kopitar was running free tonight, wish he could have gotten some better ES luck:
Probably didn't get an LA offer till basically free agency (Richards/Voynov cap situation)Makes me wonder why the **** Sekera chose EDM over LA, it ****ing baffles me.
And yet Kesler still scores, though that was more due to atrocious gap control by Schenn.
