Though apparently he was seeking over $2m from Vancouver.

Again.... every penny counts. He can stay here and be good fourth line depth that can move up in a pinch, or he can go cash in. But he's not gonna get a huge deal here.

I think he was looking for $2m but in Canada he'd lose a lot to taxes

Motte just turned 27. He's a player they really need to try to keep. He and Goodrow should be 2/3 of your 4th line next season. Top PK'ers.

4yr/2AAV? For his age 27-30 seasons? All day.

Rid yourself of Nemeth and his 2.5 for this year and next, there's your money.

Motte Goodrow Blais.

That's what I want on my fourth line.

I'd love to have Motte back, but its going to be tough.

Maybe he loved it here and will take a cut, but there are going to be many teams, even good teams, teams on the upswing, etc. who are going to be willing to pay for a guy like that.

Perhaps being able to play for a team that is there right now wins out rather than chasing after the unknown (Buffalos of the world.)

He has to come in under 2.

Right now Blais is probably on the 3rd line. I'd prefer him not but it is what it is unless they find someone better. I want to see Motte-Goodrow-Hunt. I don't know how they afford Motte without dumping Reaves though.

I agree. If the intention was to copy the Islanders 4th line, Motte-Goodrow-Reaves is as close as you can get.

In an ideal world, yes. Whether we are able to get enough depth to keep Goodrow on the 4th is another matter.

Keeping all of Chytil, Kakko, Kravtsov would help.

This. They lost Fast who was that same type of glue guy for what amounted to pennies. Motte needs to kept. His speed is also a factor

You can build that bridge with him by giving term. He has had some injury concerns so giving him term will be attractive. The cap will go up in a couple of years. It's possible he gets 5 years @ $1.85m. People will complain about the term but it's needed to keep the cap hit down

I'm not as high on signing Motte. I'm not against it but I'd like our 4th line to bring more of a factor like the Islanders or Tampa.

We lost to a better team but if we were healthy and not exhausted? Who knows?
These are poor excuses. Every team is banged up at this point, and the Rangers were exhausted because they played to series to the max. I mean Colorado was missing Kadri and Kuemper, Edmonton had Nurse and Draisaitl at 50% max. Tampa was missing Point. NYR were missing Blais and Strome? Not really comparable in my opinion.

I guess it's good to hear that there was nothing special happening with Kakko behind the curtain. On the other hand, if GG thought scratching Kakko in favour of Hunt and a crippled Strome gave us a better chance at winning G6, that's not ideal either. NGL, the end of the season has left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth on how the Kids didn't get enough minutes and Kakko was scratched. Doesn't mean that the season wasn't a huge success, or that GG is now a bad coach, but still.

I don't think the numbers work with all of Copp, Vatrano, Motte.

Two of the three is the absolute max I think we can pull and that's with ditching Nemeth and Georgiev.

I will say it does seem like all the trade deadline acquisitions are made to be Rangers, except maybe Braun. Even he would fit in as a 7th D.

I wish we could get them on short-ish affordable contracts. Who knows, maybe because everyone is cap strapped except the dregs-of-the-league teams we can pressure them all into 20% less. Except Strome, don't want him.

Panarin - Zibanejad - Kreider
Lafreniere - Chytil - Kakko
Vatrano - Copp - Kravtsov
Motte - Goodrow - Blais

Reaves, Hunt extras.

It doesn't, unless they all take substantial discounts.

Or unless you move Trouba or Kreider.

Frankie Valli loves us..it is mutual................ show us by ur contract demands

Nothing against him as I think he did exactly what he was brought here to do (and in terms of guys who are fairly limited in their overall impact, he dramatically out played someone like Strome) but I feel like the best call is to let him walk.

Great shooter and a demon on the back check but not much else.

It's really more of what @Machinehead was saying. I don't think the piece itself is bad, but I also don't think the piece will be utilized correctly. If he comes back he's going to slot in right next to Kreider and Zibanejad and that just isn't the right call.

3rd line minutes with pp2 time who you're not going to be afraid to sit late in games with a tight lead? sure, but again whats the price that you're putting on that?
