Any one else here one of those announcers make that racist comment on the live broadcast of the practice? Something along the lines of I'm hunting for some black players on the dark team, until Hendrinks said they were live and it cut off. Kind of ridiculous

Geez, seriously?

If true, doesn't surprise me, as terrible as it sounds. As a black dude who played hockey in the GTA, that kind of BS is par for the course.

Looks and sounds like were gonna be going with veterans over youth once again.

Im getting so ****ing sick of this organization

Looks like Kadri and Frattin are on he outside looking in

Meanwhile the likes of the ****ing losers... Lombardi, Connoly will be on the team.

Makes me ****ing sick. I dont even wanna watch them.

Hope im wrong because this utter bs.

this season is not a normal

there will be injuries with the schedule and there will also be player movement once GMs become comfortable with the new CBA

at this point you have to play it safe and if you got guys on two contracts that can be sent down you do until the dust settles and the market for guys like Connolly and Lombo become clearer. Better to play them now and maybe get a bit more for them then have them sitting there and give them away.

5 or 10 games are not going to make or break Kadri and Frattin's careers

This is what I'd like to see at first

Lupul Grabovski Kessel
Van Riemsdyk Connolly Kulemin
MacArthur McClement Bozak
Komarov Steckel/Lombardi Brown

Did Kessel report out of shape?

I heard Shawn Simpson on the Team1200 yesterday mention that. He even made a few jokes like, "when you're the other guys and see your best player roll in... literally... to training camp, it sends a bad message."

I havent heard that from anyone other than him.

What's funny is Shawn used to work for the Leafs. He was a scout or something with JFJ... he was part of the Raycroft (or was it Toskala?) deals. Now? He absolutely TRASHES the Leafs at every turn.

He said he wouldnt want Kessel on his team.... Luongo is a terrible goalie (when we were actively linked to him).... etc etc

Ive heard the contrary, actually.

Today's lines:

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JVR-Grabo-Kulemin
Mac-Connolly-Lombardi
Frattin-McClement-Komarov
Brown-Kadri-Aucoin
Hamilton-Steckel-Orr

Don't like seeing kadri demoted, but nice to see the "3 scoring line / McClement as 4th line C / Steckel as extra F" setup still intact.

Also very interesting to see Fratts and Komarov flanking McClement, and Brown skating on an extra line. Wouldn't be sad in the least to see the only complete offensive black hole (Brown) not guaranteed a starting spot anymore.

flip Kadri and Lombardi in that lineup and I'm 100% happy.

Flip Kadri with Connolly, and Hamilton with Lombardi.

I don't watch a lot of Marlies games, what about Hamilton would have you want him in the line up over a NHL vet of 508 games like Lombardi?

Hamilton screams career minor-leaguer to me, he's 27, 28 in a couple months and has 2 NHL games to his name.

What about his game do you think will make him an effective NHL player?

That would be among the softest forward group in the NHL and wouldn't match up well against big, strong physical teams and certainly wouldn't be hard to play against for most teams.

Nonis has stated he wants to get bigger and stronger up front, so it will be interesting to see how he addressed his teams lack of physicality among the forward unit. That effects your team in so many aspects including forechecking, board work, cycling and back checking when it comes to puck possession issues above the being pushed around factor.

A Carlyle desired team (like in Anaheim) is big and strong and capable of sustained pressure in the offensive zone, while dictating the play, and the current Leaf player personnel is not well suited for that.

Unlike Lombardi, hes tough, and gives you 110% every single shift. Sure, he doesnt have a ton of skill but hes a guy thats going to give you the character and toughness you need to win in critical moments. Hes a team first player. Its tough to not love his game when you watch him.

Hamilton would be the teams new Darryl Boyce replacement.

Agreed. Hamilton has become a solid AHL player who works hard, reliable in all zones, he's not an NHL player. Could he fill-in on the 4th line if there's injuries? Sure. But I doubt he'll win a job, even if it were a full camp.

I think only Lombardi's job is at risk for opening night. And that spot will be one of Frattin, Kadri or Komarov.

I also think MacArthur's job can be "won" but I seriously doubt Kadri/Komarov/Frattin are better than MacArthur at this point. I expect those top 12 to be the opening night forwards.

Grabovski and Kulemin look excellent in camp so far. Midseason form after playing in KHL.

Would also be amongst the most prolific and fastest forward groups in the NHL, which would certainly be hard to play against for most teams.

I see, I remain skeptical that he could be an effective full-time NHLer.

Unfourtunatley for him, I don't think we'll get a chance to see which one of us is right.

Why is kadri down with ****ing brown and aucoin  that basically says he's going to be demoted.

Can you guys not be so over dramatic about these?

Yesterday Kadri was between Kulemin and MacArthur, the day before Lupul and Kessel weren't even on the same line.

It's likely just for Carlyle to test other players in an offensive role, and vice versa.

It means nothing right now.
