From practice today, Carlyle said he could use Connolly in the checking role again, though he has historically been on scoring lines. He doesn't see him being on the fourth line. I would expect him to be on a third line that can play both ends well.

Carlyle also said today, he keeps coming back to Lupul, Bozak and Kessel on the first line. He will have 3 scoring type lines and one physical line. one of the scoring lines will be a shutdown line that also is expected to score. He is not adverse to double shifting a guy like Kessel in certain situations even onto the fourth line.

Also this...

Jake Gardiner is nowhere near ready. So don't expect him for at least the first 10 games of the season and maybe longer.

Connolly - Grabo - JVR for sure

I still would love a JVR-Kadri-Kulemin line

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
Frattin-Grabovski-MacArthur
JVR-Kadri-Kulemin

You can switch between the second two lines depending on which line plays better.

Yay!! :handclap:

I disagree with the person, who said based on randy's interview, he doesn't believe kadri is ready
his body may not be ready, but I think randy thinks kadri is ready
plus he said, he has performed well at NHL level
I guess we will have a true indication of lineup in the coming days

Lol at people moaning about Kadri. Just listened to presser and Carlyle was comparing him to Perry and Getzlaf, high praise indeed!!

I remember last year he was playing him with Grabo and said he didn't want to send him down but had to cause they had him up temporarily for injury reasons.

I really hope he stays and takes a center position.

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JVR/Kulie-Grabo-Mac
JVR/Kulie-Connolly-Frattin
Komarov-McClemment-Brown

Who sits to make room for Kadri?

Seems like Kadri has played center most of the camp, Connolly some wing.

I wouldn't say compare, but did say, those guys were told the same thing
than again, since he did mention kadri with those 2, that is good praise for sure
I think kadri makes the team, it looks like randy likes nazem

sorry I maent AHL level, but yeah, I think nazem makes the team

and based on training camp, kadri is doing really well, carlyle said, he will pick the team, who has performed the best at camp
kadri just needs to keep doing, what he is doing, and he will have a spot
but Nonis, needs to free up roster spots

I just want nazem on the team
but looks like the first 2 days, he has been at centre, that should suggest that randy, believes kadri is ready

Carlyle on what he wants out of his third line -

"I think the way our line-up sets up we have the ability to do a little bit of (shut down line and offensive line) with the third line. We have a chance to put some people in different situations up higher in our lineup and move people around and give us three lines with some form of offence. The one thing we look at is that our fourth line is going to have to play. They'e going to have to make a contribution. We'll be playing that chess match of moving people around. You never stop doing. You have a scratch pad and when you go home at night, you think about other combinations but we always seem to go back to Bozak, Kessel and Lupul."

Carlyle on Tim Connolly -

"He's an offensive player who didn't have the year that he or we expected last year and we're looking for a rebound year. We have had conversations with him through the course of the summer. He indicated to us that he wanted us to enlighten him in a few of the areas (lacking) so we enlightened him. We told him what our expectations are. We tried to be as transparent as possibly as we can with players.

It doesn't make sense if Carlyle doesn't want to use Kadri. Why would he praise Kadri last year then? Didn't Kadri say that Carlyle apologized to him after he was sent down when he didn't know Kadri had to be sent down? Kadri wouldn't lie about that. This is Kadri's year. :yo:

I don't think he's more valuable at all, not right now, and especially not projecting his play in the NHL, without the puck. A coach would trust Lombardi, Connolly, McClement, Steckel over Nazem any day.

Baseless assumption....

Corsi Rel
Kadri 10.9
Lombardi -9.4
Connolly -2.3
McClement -11.2
Steckel -3.5

GA On/60

Kadri 1.86
Lombardi 3.48
Connolly 3.17
McClement 2.64
Steckel 2.41

Granted Kadri did play against the easiest competition, he isnt as bad defensively as made out to be.

Nonis has got to move one or two of Connolly or Lombardi or Macarthur to make some space on the NHL roster.

You can't have Komarov sitting in the press box, either.

I don't think Steckel's faceoff abilities are nearly important enough to keep him on the roster. They brought in Mcclement to replace him, and I think Jay's abilities everywhere else make up for whatever he lacks in the faceoff circle compared to Steckel.

1 of Brown/Orr won't make it... I doubt Orr wins his losing battle.

Frattin hasn't had a very good season, and while he may have a more NHL-ready body than Kadri, I just don't see Frattin making this club unless 2 of the 3 I mentioned at the top get traded. Then again, there seems to be a bias against Kadri every year, so we'll see.

My ideal lineup:
Kulemin - Grabovski - Lupul
JVR - Kadri - Kessel
MacA - Connolly - Frattin
Komarov - Mcclement - Brown

Gunnarson - Phaneuf
Liles - Franson
Rielly - Holzer
Komisarek

Realistic Carlyle Lineup:
Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Connolly
Kulemin - Lombardi - MacA
Mcclement - Steckel - Brown
Orr

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Liles - Komisarek
Motteau - Franson

To me, the only player that truly doesn't fit, is Matthew Lombardi. I think he is pretty much useless. He is fast, but he is small, and not very tough.

This is my team, assuming Jake Gardiner is on the IR

Joffrey Lupul - Tyler Bozak - Phil Kessel
James Van Riemsdyk - Grabovski - Connolly
Kulemin - Kadri - MacArthur
Komarov/Steckel/Brown/Frattin - McClement - Komarov/Steckel/Brown/Frattin

Lombardi gone.

Gunnarson - Phaneuf
Liles - Komisarek
Rielly - Franson
(Holzer)

Reimer
Scrivens

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JVR/Kulie-Grabo-Mac
JVR/Kulie-Connolly-Frattin
Komarov-McClemment-Brown

Who sits to make room for Kadri?

If Kadri outplays Frattin, Mac or Bozak he can earn a spot and the Leafs can move or waive someone. Most guys can adapt to other roles on other lines, no worries. But I really think Kadri isn't good enough, not yet.

Lol at people moaning about Kadri. Just listened to presser and Carlyle was comparing him to Perry and Getzlaf, high praise indeed!!

Maybe they like the same food, movies, music...on the ice though?

I will look for the presses for context though.

Timmy actually cares? :amazed:

This is a team I hope we get to see and that I would enjoy watching quite a bit.

Our fourth line would be good with:

Komarov-Mcclement-Brown

Frattin as an extra with Holzer.. Steckel can go to the AHL.
