That Liles - Franson pair is going to surprise some other teams, quick transition skills from both of them.

Liles will be key for that pair to avoid the forecheck.

He also just wasn't good enough. Didn't beat out any of the current wingers on the top 3 lines.

No doubt he's the first callup, and if Nonis ever makes a move or two... moving say MacA... then Frattin will slide in nicely.

Well, the top lines are improved, and Frattin isn't a center so was competing against Lupul, MacArthur, Kulemin, Van Reimdyk, Komarov, who are all long time professional players in NHL/KHL.

It does if winning the offensive zone face-off to begin the PP does. ;)
Well yeah. JVR has experience playing C, so they'll likely just work extra with him in improving that. I meant positionally it doesn't matter.

We certainly are playing the youth this year....no complaints here!

It makes sense for Frattin to get sent down since he doesn't have to clear waivers. He'll likely be our first call up in case of injury so no big deal.

Carlyle says he plans to use the goalie "that stops the puck the most."

I don't believe this is the case. If he had to clear wavers do you think he would have been sent down? I don't think so... It's a numbers game of the mistake Burke did in not clearing roster spots for the young guys you project as part of the teams future... Mac holds his spot, the difference between Mac and the 2 others in Lombardi and Connoly is that he has trade value it would be irresponsible of Nonis to not get something useful in return for him, I get that even if I would have just given away Mac if I was GM I understand what's going on. It's just a matter of time until Mac plays his last game with the Leafs IMO.

The assessment of Frattin is wrong on this forum he's a natural goal scorer and to be at his best needs to be playing in an offensive role with offensive line mates... He brings everything MacArthur does only he's bigger, stronger a better skater with a lethal shot

This not a good source but.......

I'd like Lupul and Kessel split on the PP. Kessel sets up on the left side on #1 PP, which is a fixture, but I think Lupul is better off on the left side as well because that's where his shot is most lethal from. If Lupes plays right side on the PP he needs to be willing to crash the net.

My PP lines would be something like this:

Kessel - Bozak - JVR
Liles - Phaneuf

Lupul - Grabovski - Kadri
Gardiner - Franson

We need another top-6 center, better than Bozak

If the Leafs struggle, Mac will be dealt by the end of next month and Frattin will take his spot .. Simply as that .. Frattin is first on the forward call up list

I can see Steckel getting dealt too to a team needing a defensive fourth line centre

Carlyle is holding all his cards close to his chest. I could be wrong but I wouldn't trust whatever source that is.

Very comfortable that this team was put together as transparently as possible. The best players in the short time they had to evaluate have made the team. Guys like Komisarek and Orr are on the team based on merit. Changes will be made if changes are necessary. Komi will have to perform or he will be outta here. Looking forward to this season!!

I agree but it does make sense because Scrivens has been playing regularly in the AHL in game situations and Reimer has been playing scrimmage in the Lockout.

I agree .. I love this accountability aspect Carlyle brings in, and Nonis isn't stubborn to move players because they're vets
