I don't believe this is the case. If he had to clear wavers do you think he would have been sent down? I don't think so... It's a numbers game of the mistake Burke did in not clearing roster spots for the young guys you project as part of the teams future... Mac holds his spot, the difference between Mac and the 2 others in Lombardi and Connoly is that he has trade value it would be irresponsible of Nonis to not get something useful in return for him, I get that even if I would have just given away Mac if I was GM I understand what's going on. It's just a matter of time until Mac plays his last game with the Leafs IMO.

The assessment of Frattin is wrong on this forum he's a natural goal scorer and to be at his best needs to be playing in an offensive role with offensive line mates... He brings everything MacArthur does only he's bigger, stronger a better skater with a lethal shot

Okay... so the difference between Mac and Lombardi and Connolly is that Mac is actually a good player, and therefore has trade value.

MacA has proven himself at the NHL level, has scored 20 goals twice for us and has great chemistry with our best C. This is the difference.

The assessment of Frattin isn't wrong, people understand he's a goalscorer, but he hasn't been outstanding wit hte Marlies lately. On top of this, he's not exactly a young player... there's this stigma because he's a "prospect" that he's so young. He's older than JVR and Kadri by quite a bit, and less than a year younger than Kessel and Komarov. MacArthur is just over a year older than Frattin.

If Frattin was a great at skating, and shooting as you claim, then he would have produced more last year, and would have been producing with the Marlies. His game is off right now, sure he's got the tools but does he have the toolbox? If he gets going again in the A, he'll be back up the second there's an injury or someone falters.

Gunner-Phaneuf, Lyles[sic]-Kostka, Fraser-Fransen[sic] with Komisarek hanging around.

So guess that also means Holzer as the 8th spare d-man...

I'd far prefer Holzer/Komi to Fraser

They both shoot right and neither is very mobile. We need a Kostka type in that paring

Frattin has to play on the top 3 lines, not on the 4th line as a checker, same as Kadri has to be on the top 3 lines.

The players we have are the best players for the start of the season and Frattin will be called up if anyone is injured or traded.

Carlyle just called Scrivens, Reimer over at end of practice ... Quick chat ... Reimer tapped Scrivens pad at end

do you interpret that as Scrivens getting the start? :O I really thought it'd be Reimer

LEAFS UPDATED PAIRINGS: PHANEUF-KOSTKA, GUNNARSSON-KOMISAREK, FRANSON-LILES. FRASER, HOLZER extras.

Frattin has to clear waivers does he not? he is definetely going to be picked up.. sigh

He is on an entry level deal, doesnt need to clear. Gardiner still out, 8 defenceman left. If he plays by mid week, 1 more will be going down...Holzer or Fraser IMO. Kostka has the mobility for the last pairing where Holzer, Fraser and Komi dont have the puck skills or mobility....they are all the same guy

Don't understand why they wouldn't try to sneak Fraser down now instead of later. But I guess they are hoping other d-men on waivers are picked up to fill other teams spots, then sent him back later.

Could be interpreted either way.

Taps his pads as in, maybe next time man.
Or
Taps his pads as in, good luck.

So Orr brown and Fraser in lineup? What a joke. Here we come mackinnon

We play in the toughest division in hockey, who else will stand up to the tough guys who take runs at our best players? Komo, Phaneuff, Kuli, Mcarthur? LOL its hockey we need some toughness. We saw how Wilsons skate fairy teams did against real hockey teams.

we'll need colton to fight
thats his job

esp if they run reimer again

Steve McIntyre is much bigger, skates just as well and intimidates way more than Orr. I would rather have a guy like that in the lineup than Orr if we need a fighter

GUNNARSSON KOMISAREK as the shutdown pair ( i guess....

Well since Komisarek wont have to pinch everytime the puck comes to him in the offensive zone (like he did with Wilson) and play a little sturdier in his own end, that could actually work out.

McIntyre isn't capable of playing the game like Orr can and has before.

The reason Orr is being kept in this line up is because he has committed himself into getting back to the basics and not worry about JUST fighting. He is there to protect his team-mates and his fighting ability is still well respected around the league and teams will think twice about taking runs at our team with him on the bench.

At one point early last year, Colton had gained so much mass that he literally turned like an 18-wheeler. The guy was clearly intimidating but wasn't the same player. He could hit harder, but wasn't fast enough to finish those opportunities.

He's worked on his skating and his issues and we should see a much improved Orr on the fore-check. His effort level has always been there, but he strayed away from what made him so effective in New York.

Ron Wilson didn't make the effort to point out what Eakins did, and Carlyle is on board with giving Orr another chance.

I cannot see Colton Orr taking this chance and fumbling considering it is a contract year for him, which may make or break his very career.

Yeah, I'm intrigued by it. Will be interesting to watch!
