Okay... so the difference between Mac and Lombardi and Connolly is that Mac is actually a good player, and therefore has trade value.

MacA has proven himself at the NHL level, has scored 20 goals twice for us and has great chemistry with our best C. This is the difference.

The assessment of Frattin isn't wrong, people understand he's a goalscorer, but he hasn't been outstanding wit hte Marlies lately. On top of this, he's not exactly a young player... there's this stigma because he's a "prospect" that he's so young. He's older than JVR and Kadri by quite a bit, and less than a year younger than Kessel and Komarov. MacArthur is just over a year older than Frattin.

If Frattin was a great at skating, and shooting as you claim, then he would have produced more last year, and would have been producing with the Marlies. His game is off right now, sure he's got the tools but does he have the toolbox? If he gets going again in the A, he'll be back up the second there's an injury or someone falters.

Disagree, that's the type of thinking that plagues development and growth of players... Mac is a passenger to Grabovski, when Grabo go's so does Mac on the score sheet cause he's lethal from the hash marks in as a trigger guy but the rest of his game is what had him on the 4th line last year and Frattin in his role. Give it some time it wont be too long where Carlyle will land him on the bench for his play in his own end of not doing the simple task of supporting the D in getting the puck out on the wall past the blue line... Age is just a number my dear friend look at experience when you want to break it down what Frattin is in need of and the confidence you gain when your an NHL regular what it does for your game.

Everybody including the greatest hockey player of all time go's through ups and downs this standard that young guys have to be going at all times over the vet to make your club is how you ruin prospects. As much as people don't get it when it comes to youth it's about projection and do they show the signs of meeting them that Frattin has more than anything else to get them in the NHL when your a bottom feeding team like the Leafs... development as an NHL player doesn't occur in the AHL it happens AT THE NHL LEVEL that's why you remove the MacArthur's Lombardi's, Connoly's from your team if your going to grow your own. That's how you grow young players that are projected as part of your future you remove the vets that are nothing but road blocks and commit to the young guy to develop into what is projected of them.

I love this new mentality that has taken shape into the Leafs.

There has to be accountability and it doesn't matter if you have a guaranteed contract, the better player will play. It takes a lot for a team to say Kostka and Orr get as much chance as the next guy. Prior to this season it was just throw the players wherever we can find a spot, regardless of if that's their style.

I'm not expecting a drastic change in the talent on the ice, but a better mentality that if you aren't battling then there is someone on the doorstep waiting to come in and take that spot. And I'm a huge Frattin fan, but they have recognized that he isn't where he should be, so what's the point in rushing him if someone else has outplayed him? His time will come and he will be good to go when he's there.

So from what we know:

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabovski - MacArthur
van Riemsdyk - Kadri - Komarov
Brown - McClement - Orr
Steckel

Phaneuf - Kostka
Gunnarsson - Komisarek
Liles - Franson
Holzer
Fraser

Reimer
Scrivens

I have to say I REALLY like this lineup. I have some questions about the D though. Scrivens may get the start over Reimer. Can't wait to see how this plays out!

McIntyre isn't capable of playing the game like Orr can and has before.

The reason Orr is being kept in this line up is because he has committed himself into getting back to the basics and not worry about JUST fighting. He is there to protect his team-mates and his fighting ability is still well respected around the league and teams will think twice about taking runs at our team with him on the bench.

At one point early last year, Colton had gained so much mass that he literally turned like an 18-wheeler. The guy was clearly intimidating but wasn't the same player. He could hit harder, but wasn't fast enough to finish those opportunities.

He's worked on his skating and his issues and we should see a much improved Orr on the fore-check. His effort level has always been there, but he strayed away from what made him so effective in New York.

Ron Wilson didn't make the effort to point out what Eakins did, and Carlyle is on board with giving Orr another chance.

I cannot see Colton Orr taking this chance and fumbling considering it is a contract year for him, which may make or break his very career.

This makes me feel a lot better about Orr, thanks Chuck .. Glad to hear he's getting himself sorted out

If he and rebound to what he was in NY, that 4th line is going to be hard to play against

How good would our forwards look in a couple years if we drafted Monahan and traded for somebody like Jenner?

Lupul-Monahan-Kessel
Van-Riemsdyk-Kadri-Kulemin
Komarov-Jenner-Biggs
Ashton-McClement-Brown
(Orr)

I like this lineup too and if Carlyle has them all back checking and being resposible in their own end, I think we have a pretty good shot at the play-offs.

Are we going to let the new guys pick their own number? Or are we going to use Burke's old rule and have them stuck with dusty numbers? (Kostka wearing 53 etc.)

Well this is Kadri's shot. He's playing centre, and has a guy who can score on his wing. He needs to produce now.

Hoping he takes advantage of the opportunity
