Now that the Bruins have signed Swayman and Frederic for a total of just under 5.8 mill,
deal them Scheifele for those two and then turn around and deal Helle to Buffalo for Krebs and a pick or prospect.
Yeah, but I saw that Swayman had to get his contract through an arbitration award. Based on the rules of HF Boards, he can no longer remain a Bruin. The end is nigh. Trouble is, he can't come here now. We've got too many goalies under contract for the coming season.

Not if 37 is gone.

I don't hate it if the pick from Buffalo is a 1st

We'd either be a permanently mediocre team or Vegas 2.0

Nope, latest rumour is that Helly wants to re-sign here. (note the hyphen all you lazy typists). That's the rule of the Interwebz. The latest rumour posted is true and must be believed.

Yup, go ahead

Well I believe the opposite to be true, it's one thing if you don't have a choice but there's no reason at all for someone like Gudas to voluntarily put himself through that if he doesn't want to.

If I was an NHL player I'd avoid Canada completely. Maybe I'd do a year or two just for the experience.

No worries, I was just giving you permission to say it. :sarcasm: I'd personally want to be in a market where I can be more lowkey than under a microscope given an option.

I've been thinking about potential trade destinations for Hellebuyck, and Edmonton pops.

They absolutely need to try to win before the McDavid / Draisaitl window shuts, so this season and next are crucial.

Their goaltending is unpredictable with the erratic Campbell and Skinner, who had a 0.883 save % in the playoffs last season.

I could see a mid-season trade for Hellebuyck to the Oilers, even if it's a rental situation, given their drive to compete for a Cup.

Maybe something around a 1st and Holloway or Bourgault/Lavoie. Add another pick if it's not Holloway.

Edmonton absolutely fits the description of the type of team. They're really good but just stupid and desperate enough to overpay making a big move

Are people forgetting how weak our division is? Barring significant injuries, I expect the Jets to be in the hunt for 1st all season long. Chevy isn't going to trade his starting goalie in that scenario. Off season was the most likely time, and clearly there is no fair trade to be had or it would have been done already. Helly will re-sign here, or he will walk as a UFA. Most likely, he re-signs because I think it is starting to sink in that he's just not as in demand as his ego had him believe. Remember Helly...

Agreed, if I was a NHL player, and as a life long Manitoban resident, I think Winnipeg might be the last place I would want to play. You have shitty weather during hockey season, high taxes and a hockey market that loves its schoolyard gossip and rampant speculation where everyone knows someone and has inside dirt (but no sources are ever given). Everyone recognizes you with a high percentage who believe it is their right as a hockey fan to give unsolicited advice. Add in a local media that also loves to play the speculation and gossip game.

Compare that to PLD now living in LA. Almost perfect weather during hockey season. Can live in a beach house in Malibu, wear shorts and flipflops to practice. You have enough star credibility to open the doors you want opened as a 25 y/o star athlete in one of the most desirable cities in the world, but be anonymous enough to the general public where you can go about your life without the daily fan hassles. Once these guys can control where they play I never blame them, even if I sometimes resent it as a hard core Jets fan.

At some point it's going to hit them in the pocket book. The Canadian teams for a long time now have been providing a significantly larger proportionate share of revenue then their American counterparts.

Less Canadian team success over the long term is going to translate into less revenue for the players. If I was the league and PA I'd be very concerned about the next national Canadian TV deal. Roger's has lost a bucket load on it and I can't see them getting anything as good. Players may rue shunning Canada for anonymity. It was a contract that largely carried this league while it was making peanuts with NBC.

Look at it this way. Canadian teams make up 21% of total teams but the Canadian national TV deal makes up 40% of total national television revenue. It was 80% prior to the recent American TV deal. That is 1/2 billion dollars per year we are talking about. While it's good to grow the game, you still need a healthy group.of Canadian teams as they still provide a significant amount of total league revenue.

Sources are never given by journalists, why do you think that is? Answer: because they would stop being sources, and possibly put the person at risk for their livelihood. Or in some cases, lives. Sure, I could provide names and/or positions for the grapevine that provided me with the dirt on Scheifele. Would it make any difference? Probably not. But being out of the loop, doesn't mean...

I'd rather not help edmonton like at all I'd rather be a tirefire of a team than see them win

I agree with every except "one of the most desirable cities in the world" ... I could tell you many reasons why but it would get deleted.:D:huh:

When you are 25 and you have an opportunity to hobnob with the most rich and famous and beautiful people in the world that is what they will focus on.

Which current player is going to look at the long term big picture over their current work circumstances?

Which current player is going to look at the long term big picture over their current work circumstances?

Likely none but that is why they have a union and agent to take into account the bigger picture. I'd expect those factors to be very important to both of those groups.

The players will be the first group to raise a big stink if the league gets less on its next Canadian TV deal.
