IMO it's hard to move Chef because for good or bad, he has a reputation in the league of not being a 200ft player. And it's hard to move Helly because of the money everyone knows he wants. Even if a team wants him, there are not as many teams that have the cap space.
Lots of one dimensional scorers are coveted because you still need goals to win. I think teams are more reluctant to sign 30 year old stars because the contracts lose so much value after a few years. Teams are finally figuring that out.

yea and its funny b/c it's not the gm that signed those deals needing to clean it up lol

Lucic to Boston it looks like. Also appears Andersen is going to the UFA market.

bit of PIT and CAR goalie tidbits

think Duchene in CAR would be a decent option? C depth could be Aho, Necas, Kotka/Duchene, Staal

How many teams are left that would add him at his price point?

Not sure, I'm just talking about why I think it's unlikely Andersen comes to Winnipeg. There are still teams that would add Andersen (maybe Pittsburgh?). Nothing says he takes more money and he's not getting a raise here so his past contracts aren't relevant.

I think if they are planning on trading him it could be risky to not have another guy on the roster to split games

I understand why the Jets may have interest, but if I'm a UFA goalie like Freddy Andersen, why would I have interest on joining the Jets when there's still a decent chance I'm sitting for 55-60 games because there's a Vezina finalist still there?

Without significant cap dumps: Ottawa, Buffalo, Pittsburgh.
With sizable cap coming back (goalie?): New Jersey, Detroit, Seattle, Edmonton, Toronto.

There are possibilities, some better than others, but we need to accept that the return isn't going to be good at all. And as mentioned previously, we need to move quick.

well we would be trading helle so he wouldn't be there, plus locking someone in may allow us to take a more futures package then win now

Perhaps with retention he will get his best return. One season rental then he can go to market next off season.

So what's your pitch to Andersen? Sign here because we're going to try to trade Hellebuyck but only if we get the return we want otherwise you might be playing less. Oh, and if you're not convinced, maybe just wait to sign and not sign elsewhere until we actually trade him, just keep your fingers crossed.

As of July 1st, today, Hellebuyck is still with the Jets. If I'm a UFA goalie that's looking for starter's minutes, that's enough uncertainty for me to look elsewhere first.

Makes me think we're starting the year with Hellebuyck. Barring a trade, we will have missed a chance to lock in a decent goalie.

I said a goalie like anderson, and yes, tell him that he will be the number 1.. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that helle is available for trade so I don't think they would be very worried about being stuck behind him.

idk, I find it to be risky if we are trying to compete and trade helle to not lock up a goalie, we could be left with a 1b and a rittich level back up if we don't lock one up early

Again, I agree with your 2nd paragraph and that should be the Jets mindset.

Helle is available for trade, but that doesn't mean he's going to be traded. I'm not committing the last years of my career and a multi million dollar decision on an uncertainty like that.

I think if we grab an anderson type goalie that would make it a certainty that helle is going to be traded

I just think that's a very hard sell to the UFA goalie of choice. It also certainly means Hellebuyck goes for almost nothing.

Might have to retain as per TSN but Chevy so far has been unwilling.
