Oh FFS, qualifying Gawanke? The guy just signed for 4 years in Germany. Pretty obvious he has zero interest in being part of the Jets organization, and probably little interest in coming back to NA at all. Of course, the usual suspects will chime in with this is just good asset management, can't let players out of their required commitments to the team that drafted them or all hell would break loose.

Bullshit. They let Arvid Holm walk away even sooner. Oh but the organization no longer has any interest in Holm, you say. So, you think they still have interest in Gawanke coming back someday? No, this is just a petty response to him saying bad things about the team. Don't want to be a good little prospect and be content with the scraps from our table? Fine, we'll just hang onto your rights till you wither on the vine, you ingrate.

There is zero downside to qualifying Gawanke, he is not taking a roster spot away from another player at the Moose. Worst case he stays in the DEL and remains a mediocre player and nothing happens, best case he turns into something good and the Jets can either sign him or trade his rights for some assets.

Imagine if Gawanke pops off the DEL next season putting up 1.5 ppg and NHL teams are lining up to sign him next summer. Chevy would get destroyed here for letting his rights expire for nothing.

Maybe the room problems are being overblown. Maybe 55 isn't as issue in the room. He is good friends with Josh and Adam. Was at Josh's wedding. I think Mark might fit well. I really do see him staying and I think we see a new and improved mark also.

Regarding Helle, if Lebrun is to be believed, no reason why he shouldn't be,helle doesn't want to be in Canada anymore. You can't go into the season with your almost ufa starter who won't resign here. Hellebuyck, if Lebrun is correct needs to be traded. Doesn't need to be today but wouldn't hurt if it's tomorrow or sooner rather than later

I haven't seen the one where Helle says he wants out of Canada. All I have seen is where he stated that he wants to have a shot at the Cup. Do you have a link to the LeBrun one? Or was it behind the paywall?

I don't know if the Jets will re-sign Scheifele, but the Jets are already a very different team at F with Vilardi, Iaffalo, Niederreiter and Kupari instead of PLD and Wheeler going into next season.

I'd add that having Perfetti and Barron take the next step in development adds additional dimensions. It's gone from a top-6 team to a deeper forward group. If the Jets add another talented middle 6 F and bring Scheifele back, it might be a harder team to play against.

I think they still have work to do on D. Maybe Sanheim could bounce back to be an impact LD in the top-4. I think Samberg is ready to really anchor a D pair and the PK.

Qualify him and retain his rights. He isn't going to sign his QO so it costs nothing. Maybe they throw in his rights in a trade.

Holm should have been qualified.

I'm not sure that word means what you think it does.

Not sure about Holm. Jets probably wanting to create room for Milic to develop at the AHL level starting next year.

Could be - but Holm was bad in only 1 year, his first in NA. I wouldn't give up on him without giving him 1 more year to progress.

I wouldn't be so sure Milic is ready to step right in to AHL level competition. If he is excelling in the ECHL and Holm is not excelling with the Moose, they can be swapped at any time. Players don't need to be waived from the AHL to the ECHL AFAIK.

Really, we have 2 pro goalies right now, Holm and Salminen. That's it. There is plenty of room. Well, now we have 1. That is assuming Helle is moved. If he stays we have 2. Still plenty of room.

I'd prefer to see Milic develop at the AHL level. Fine for him to replace Holm, in my view.

Jets will be looking to fill their NHL spots from trades or free agency.

Milics a gamer. He's not some kid coming in as a mid tier goalie out of a CHL league. He's arguably the top goalie in the entire CHL right now and has proven about all there is to prove at that level. So I can see why the Jets might want to give him the nod at the AHL to run with it for better or worse.

Buying 2nd round picks (or any picks really) on draft day is definitely a sucker bet.

This is the best time of year to get cheap veterans for depth that aren't a fit elsewhere. Now it's not easy to attract FA here... but there is lots of opportunity out there.

Hoping we can extend DeMelo and keep it to 3-4 years. Schmidt is making $6M... so hard not to look at anything under that for DeMelo in a positive light lol

The Boston and Scheifele match seems too good to deny for either side. Was hoping for Carlo involved but I believe he has a NTC kicking in July 1?

Helle to NJ makes a lot of sense as well, but Helle is going to have to sacrifice some dough if any extension is going to happen. Seattle probably has more depth and flexibility if they wanted to take a run at him.

Poor Ville not going to have a spot in the lineup until after the deadline at the earliest by the looks of things...

Im honestly blown away that we didn't qualify Stenlund... Bowness loved him and his faceoffs - maybe they're hoping for a 2-way contract or ...???

Like at league minimum - he's the press box guy we need

There's no fkn way we released Holm because of a guy we drafted yesterday...

we want better then stenlund and milic is 20

I remember Hammer hinting pretty strongly at this back in the winter time on WST. Seemed pretty matter of fact about it.

Helle's best shot at a big pay day is staying here, honestly...

I really thought Scheif for Carlo and Swayman but that window is ending...

We HAVE to have Heinola on the roster this year - otherwise the myth of draft and develop is officially dead - the disconnect between our coaches and our scouts seems very very real

If Im Chevy, I package Schmidt with Helle and retain on Schmidt

we want better then stenlund and milic is 20
I don't want better than Stenlund in the PB haha - he is the guy you want to step in for injury - poor man's Perrault

I don't care of Milic is 20 - I don't see him in the A next year

I mean Holm is a pretty mediocre 24 year old goalie who isn't likely gonna do much. Though I think its more likely he's heading home than anything else.

It is what it is with Ville. Not really any room on a winning team that's already small on D with two PP QB's

Ideally he'd be playing with Kovacevic on 3rd pair this year but we have Nate Dogg and Pionk in the way carrying big tickets

I hope Milic is ready for the AHL, but I don't expect it. That's throwing him in the deep end. Sink or swim.

Of course Jets will be looking to fill the NHL spots through trade or FA but it isn't done until it is done. They would have risked what, 80k by QOing Holm? Just too soon to give up on him.

The risk in QOing Holm was almost nil. He may be the best goalie in the CHL but he is still a kid coming out of Jr. Big jump to ECHL, huge jump to AHL.

I don't mind giving him a chance to win the Moose job, but this is handing it to him. Let him win it and send Holm to the ECHL if Milic proves to be that good. The loss is peanuts.

Seems almost ridiculous for an organization that has Helle + Salminen and Helle on his way out. In a few days Salminen could be our only goalie who has played a single pro game.

That is not hearing anything from Helle.

You might be right about the payday. Money on one hand, location on the other.

I wouldn't mind paying Helle a high AAV. I would be leary of too much term.

I don’t think a single person in Winnipeg talks about Saneim if he isn’t from Manitoba, IMO.

For the caphit he has for what he gives, I fail to see a fit

I would like to challenge (respectfully of course) your perspective on a few of these lines/players.

Line 1, who is playing the defensively responsible role? Scheifle? Tarasenko? I think not. Maybe my eye test on Vlad is bad… but forcing Perfetti to anchor the responsibility on the top line is asking for trouble. He’s the guys supposedly the most steps ahead and he has to be thinking about defense? Maybe not.

I think the centers on the 2nd and 3rd lines get swapped…. Just because of their history playing together. Not sure it’ll happen, just a hunch.

Also. Raanta will spend most of this season on LTIR. (Which would work if he was named Mark Stone…) varlamov sounds fun though. I’m down for that.
