Chisholm will go to arbitration I am guessing. Kup signs a 1 year deal and I am going to guess we try to sign VIlardi to the Scheif contract if not it will be a 2 year deal around 4.5 per year
Not sure where Chisholm would have any leverage in an arbitration hearing

Chisholm doesn't have arbitration rights.

Jets tend to be cautious with their contracts, but it might be a smart bet to try to get Vilardi long-term. But he might not be easy to persuade to commit that long to the Jets.

Might have to overpay. I wouldn’t be opposed to a 7x7 contract. It’s a big bet, but even if he plays as a winger, I think it would pay off.

If I'm Vilardi I take a two year bridge... Chevy probably will offer low knowing that he needs to re-up Ehlers and Connor fairly soon too - I doubt Vilardi is ever higher than a $7m range anyway...

I don't see either Ehlers or the org wanting to continue the relationship after next year. Ehlers hasn't been used correctly and the org isn't going to want to pay Fly what he's likely worth.

The cap is going up like crazy over the next few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays with Connor, Ehlers and Perfetti for two years, he gets 70-80 points and is after 10M on a 95M cap.

Don't disagree... but Chevy has his five year spending plan and moves accordingly - its bridges for everyone

I would suggest that the true rebuild is coming in 2025/26... Jets really need to transition our prospects into the lineup over the next two years - traditionally we have been very slow at that... especially with D

You are probably right and yet...the door is wide open for both sides, with the departure of Wheeler (and possibly Scheif). The team has 2 years to give him the opportunity to play prime 5x5 and pp minutes and a lot can change in a season. He obviously has to stay healthy, but his metrics when playing are outstanding.

Injuries aside, the underutilization of Ehlers has been one of my many disappointments with the team these past few years. They don't deserve to keep him if they don't give him more opportunity. And through it all, he has been a consummate professional--no moping, no passive aggressive body language, often taking personal responsibility for team underperformance.

I think he gets moved next off-season unless he plays almost injury free and puts up big numbers. People complain about him not getting the minutes but the guy can't stay healthy getting the minutes he is. He played 72, 82 and 82 games his first 3 years. Since then he has missed substantial time. I'd do Stanley and Ehlers for Konecny.

I'd do it but I don't know why a rebuilding Philly team does it.

I agree. I stated in another post Vilardi at 2 x $5 mill which is probably too high.

Good assessment.

He's been a good soldier, and provided good value. I get the health concerns, but much of that is down to playstyle and commitment, I reckon. If Ehlers protected himself better and stayed well clear of the hard/ dangerous areas, he'd be KFC.

I see him moving on to UFA, hopefully to a contending team where he can electrify (and no doubt also disappoint) another fanbase. He'll always be one of my all-time fave Jets. Not many who can generate the excitement Ehlers can at full stride, and few more consistent puck carriers in the league.

And yeah, a great pro for sure. If not a gudpro, yet, in terms of his usage or org trust earned. Nik Ehlers, the Eternal Rookie.

4M a smidge higher than I was expecting for Colton (EvolvingHockey had him at 4x3.5m) Anyway V interested to see how he fairs this year with an increased role.

It would be great if he did, but 70-80 might be a tad optimistic as he barely even broke 40 last year. Dubois was here 3 years and only broke 60 once.

It would be dependent on him staying healthy of course. He paced for 53 points last year with 16 mins per game. Give him 18-19 mins and lots of power play time and I could see 70 points if he plays 82.

Play him with KFC and a winger like Nino/Iafallo. I'd even try Kup for 10 or so games.

With no trades, this is how I would probably start.

KFC Villardi Ehlers
Nino Scheif Perfetti
Iafallo Lowry Kupari
Barron Names Appleton
Gus

PP1
Perfetti
Ehlers Scheif. KFC
Morrisey

PP2
Nino
Villardi Iafallo Schmidt
Pionk

I'd swap wings for Perfetti and Nino. I also think Cole needs to be the HB player on whichever PP unit he's on. I don't think putting him down low is the best use of his skills.

I'd also prefer to play Cole at center but he may have to wait until Mark is traded (if we are using him as a self rental until a team meets Chevy's ask)

I personally like Cole on his off wing but switching him and Nino makes sense for sure.

I do agree that Cole should be on the HB on PP1 but don't see the coaches playing him there over Ehlers and Connors, at least to start. I prefer him down low on PP1 as opposed to playing him HB on PP2. I think it is imperative he sees PP1 time all year regardless of his spot.

I think he gets shot at centre this year but I really like the way him and Scheif play together and I think Nino would be a perfect compliment to their skill.

I love the 3rd line in my configuration and the 4th is a significant improvement to last year.

As whole, I think (without any trades) this team is significantly ahead of this time last year with a lot of room for growth.

Well reasoned. I do like Mark and Cole together as they read the game in the offensive end similarly. Adding a digger that cab get to the net and has some talent in Nino would be a good fit.

Yeah I'm sure Cole is smart enough to figure whatever PP role he has out even if it's not the optimal role.

I also agree that barring any other moves I like the team a lot more then last year. If we can get improved finish and PP efficiency this year I expect a more consitient year and a top 3 divisional finish.
