Lauer being out for his back really impacted the PP and likely some of the teams offensive schemes.

I think the team as constructed right now is a clear playoff team that can win a round or two if things break right.

Not sold on Bones as being modern enough in his approach which is why I'd like to see him replaced in a year with Lauer who has a strong history of good modern thinking and a lot of experience with young players.
Pretty crazy how much impact Lauer seemed to have on the Powerplay... the guys must have known the system by the time he had to step back - goes to show how 'intangibles' are exactly that...

They specifically mentioned they had to choose which faction to support during COVID and that a good chunk of the drop in season tickets was from non vaccinated seat holders not renewing. That is what was said at the CPA session I attended.

They would have lost far more had they not made the decision they did though.
Yes, they had difficult choices, but I think they made good decisions vis-a-vis Covid policies. It was inevitable that they would lose customers, regardless.

So what do you propose? Surely giving the fans 20 additional games of these 2 and then losing them for nothing next summer isn't going to inspire much fan confidence either?
What some people are forgetting is that the Jets BARELY squeaked into the playoffs and avoided the worst collapse in NHL history... Calgary would have beat us if they were not in full revolt against Sutter and Nash were sellers at TD - and STILL almost made the playoffs.

Jets will still be a cusp team just because half the west really does suck... but he has to pull the trigger on Scheif and Helle at TD - fanbase might be disappointed for one season but the rebuild coming if they walk for nothing is not pretty.

As I’ve stated several times I don’t think it is a good idea to go into the season with Scheifele and Helly unresolved. You either trade or extend them prior to camp. After that in season on ice success takes precedence and you are now in to win. TDL deals will only happen if the team is out of playoff contention IMO. You can complain about that if you want but 90% of the ticket buying public will want the playoffs as well as 100% of the players.

It was one thing when it was the government was actively segregating and discriminating against 20% of the population. But when the “mandates” came down and true north decided to continue that abhorrent practice - they then lost forever many ticket holders. I know a number that will never go again, including people who got multiple innoculations that felt the mandates were disgusting and wrong.

True north only has themselves to blame here.

And had they not they would have lost far more as it was made clear by the pro vaccination side that they would drop their tickets if enforcemt wasnt maintained. Given the non vaccinated population made up far less of their ticket base they had little choice in the matter.

They made a difficult business decision, one I supported as a long-time customer.

I think they would have been better off following the provincial rules like every other business. Having a referendum unnecessarily pitted one group of fans vs others.

Agree it was a dividing topic for sure. We now know that 95% safe and effective was a tremendous lie….but at the time most were still believing in big pharma.

The division still remains for many families.

Just asking - do you still support excluding people based on medical choice, when today, we know that it offered minimal protection for a very short period? People with 3+ shots were still getting sick multiple times. People with no shots have never been sick.

Discriminating against? Abhorrent practice?

Sometimes it's best just to shake my head sadly and walk away.

I have always been pro choice, and supported people’s right to choose what they felt was best for themselves. I feel segregating against people who chose to not take an experimental unproven innoculation was an abhorrent practice. Yes. People who supported that stance, I also shake my head, but never walked away.

It's a complex scientific topic in relation to virology, immunology and epidemiology, and this is not a suitable forum for those discussions. It's too much like work, for me. 🙂

It's the NHL. Teams adapt quickly, so having the coach on hand to guide them in adapting the system in real time has a huge effect. He can call in stuff after the game but without the time to work directly and in practice, it's not as impactful and I think we saw it.

I've already said my opinion on rebuilds and on-ice factors vs business factors, but I do think once the Jets make that decision to trade valuable assets for more future oriented pieces that it will be a long time before the team is successful and the rink sells out again. I think the ownership believes its faster and easier to sell playoff contention than 6+ year rebuilds. Not suggesting that's necessarily right but I think that's the direction.

As for mandates and their impact on fans, this is not the place to debate vaccine efficacy. It seems, faced with a situation where they were going to lose paying fans no matter what the decision, they made the one based on fan feedback that would lose them the fewest. Hard to fault a business for that.

Hindsight is amazing, isn't it? ( And that's all I'm gonna say about this post.)

Side note: Covid is basically like the flu now, and in most places is treated like the flu (and by that I mean nobody cares even though 1000s die of the flu every year.)

I think that we can all agree that we hope this never happens again

"There is no glory in prevention"

With that said, thanks for getting back to topic everyone ❤️
