Too much cash for Bouchard and we risk the Oilers paying us back when Perfetti or someone like him is eligible for an offer sheet.
Let's not forget that Overcharge is Perfetti's agent.

Here's one fan's view of Bouchard...

"plays 18 minutes a game. 60% ozone starts. Mans the top PP with McDrai and only put up 13pp points during the season. Nothing stands out with the eye test with him. Not an elite puck mover and skater. Not an elite defender. Not an elite zone entry guy. Not elite at PP QB. I'd have to see his heatmaps, but I just don't see anything to be excited about with the player or how he would fit in another environment."

I agree with this.

He didn't play on the powerplay with McDavid until after the trade deadline. He led all players the playoffs in power play points with 15 in 12 games.

So what do people think of an offer sheet for Bouchard?

He's a young RS dmen that would fill a big hole on this team. My thinking is we have a strong enough forward prospect pool that we can afford to part with the future draft capital.

We could do 2 years at an aav of 6.35 million for a 1st and 3rd.
Thats a lot of cash for a few BouchBombs per year.

Look who he's playing with?
He is worth nowhere near 6m per season.

Stats say he averaged 2:16 of PP time per game and had 13 points.
Not that good is it?

Scheif Helle this year may be our new version of Ladd and Buff. Where it was out there only one is coming back and either are gone without an extension by deadline
it feels like it's shaping up that way, to me at least. & that's if this team is not in the PO mix. but w/ Helle here, we are likely on the bubble again.

if the reporting on helle is true of him wanting to finish off his career in the states I would have moved him weeks ago.

scheifele - have no idea if he would re-sign here or not. personally, anything above 3-4 years i probably pass on.

I'm sure another non competitive team would offer a contract as well while providing the wonderful perk of not having to play in Winnipeg. It doesn't give any leverage, it solidifies the contract he gets.

His agent can talk to teams. If this agent goes up to him and says "hey we have an offer from Winnipeg that would get you more money than Edmonton can offer" he'll say to ask around to see what other teams will offer. In reality though he'll probably be fine taking a little less money to be fed by McDavid for the next few years. It'll maximize his earnings in the long run.
Please keep in mind, I was neither suggesting we do it, nor want to. I was simply asking why we'd do it

How about

Helle to NJ... vanacek or the younger guy makes sense. Seamus Casey. Current roster player if the younger goalie. 1st 24.

So basically helle to NJ

Vanacek Casey 1st 24
Or
Smid Casey roster player. 1st 24

I think there is a middle ground here. He obviously has inflated playoff stats from being an Oiler PP1 dman

He also is a skilled dman with size that isn't a liability defensively or really slow. That alone makes the guy worth a fair chunk of change. Reminds me of a LH Sanheim now that I'm writing this out.

Not worth paying pretending he is some franchise dman cause he is not. But still a valuable top 4 guy that is young with room to get more consistent.

I don't think Bouchard is somebody we would pair with JMo on the first pairing. He is an offensive minded defenseman and we already have a couple of those.
Marino would look nice with JMo.

I find it very unlikely NJ even considers moving Marino. A RHD that is the defensive heart of the team. In his prime and signed long term on a nice contract. A contender doesn’t move players like that. They will be offering up prospects with pedigree that haven’t proven themselves like Holtz. As good as Helly is, he is still a 30 year old goalie with an expiring contract and due for his bad UFA contract. That only gets rental offers IMO. The question for me is does Chevy eventually settle for that?

I think if you can get back Schmid and Casey plus 1st 24 u do it. I don't want vanacek

Rental helle = 1st plus prospect so if u going that route... Edmonton LA Pitt still even Buffalo NJ so of those teams who has the best prospect to offer plus 1st

Its prob NJ or Buffalo

Vanecek will be the one to go in NJ due to his contract. Maybe he is dealt elsewhere like Durzi was. Chevy wouldn’t have to take Vanecek if he had a deal for Swayman in the works for Scheifele.

In that situation though, a 1st and Casey feels too light especially if/when Helleybuyck extends in New Jersey.

NO SWAYMAN DEAL

Devils get Helleybuyck and Stanley (added to level some value)

Jets get Vanecek (cap dump) Casey, 2025 1st (2024 could belong to Sharks) and N. Foote

I’d be satisfied with a deal like that. Casey and the 1st are the main components, Vanecek is the cap dump/stop gap and Foote for Stanley is a change of scenery deal that moves out a depth defenseman for a depth forward.
