i am betting helle does not get traded. we are not rebuilding and helle gives us the best chance to win.

not trusting a tandem of composed of Brossoit-Delia or another guy. even if we get a goalie back, not sure who that would even be.

If he doesn't get traded then we lose him for nothing. He is moving on one way or the other. We are no where near being a cup contender so might as well trade him for futures at least.

Like PLD to LA, Hellebuyck to NJ Devils has a bit of inevitability to it. Seems like a “when” and “for what” question to be answered, in a trade to the Devils.

If it happens, Helle might get his cup in 2-3 years.
I'm not pretty but if we made that trade and won a cup before Jersey id chuckle

Atleast Rasmussen has turned into a decent third line player. Zadina was a massive bust though. They didn't hit on their other first round picks in Svech and Cholowski in 15 and 16 so don't have much.

Yea it’s a tough one to get one bottom six asset out of two top 10 picks. It really sets a franchise back. In fairness that 2018 draft has been a bit underwhelming so far.

They need to get rid of Chef. It's time for a change. The Jets need to move on from him. I'd also get rid of KFC and Ehlers. Helle is gone for sure. I don't have any problem with the D even though it's not a good D.

The team itself will be fine in that they will be a bubble team again, lose the first round if they get in, and generally still have 13,000 fans each game but the love is wearing off.

there is the possibility you move him at the TDL.

i think they should start a rebuild which evidently involved moving Helle, however, I just feel the messaging and transactions from the team so far has indicated avoid-rebuild and still go for the POs/stay afloat. given that, our PO or Cup chances are at its highest w/ Helle than w/o.

I find all this kovacevic talk funny because if you go to the habs board most of them don't even have him in the starting lineup next year...
He looked OK in the few Habs games I watched. Maybe he should change his name to Pierre.

If he gets a legit look this year, then we are not... if we leave him in the A as suggested, then we are. I just think if we don't get him games this year, him and his agent will leave at the first chance they get.
Yup. If I'm making $70K and players worse than me are making $850k then that's a problem.

100% agree team is way better with Helle but to just squeak in the playoffs and lose in 1st round and then he walks for nothing is a real tough pill to swallow. Personally I'd throw $10 million at him for a 5 year term and make him face of the franchise.

10m is a lot but if he committed for 5 years, I'd do it too.

You think they're a bubble team sans 55, 37, 81 and 27 ?

it wasn't to send a message to him... we couldn't score at all so they decided to stack the top line and see if that work, him and pld also switched who would play center on that line depending on who took the draw
I have a different take than you. I you are a 1C in the NHL and you suddenly have to share/lose your position, a message is being sent. The message is take the wheel and drive your line.

I see 2 trades that seem to fit the needs on both sides.
Hellebuyck to Buffalo for a Centre.
Scheifele to Boston for a goalie.

Jets may need to take back a contract or 2 to make the cap work. Those would not be pure cap dumps but at least somewhat useful players. Those contracts might be flipped if they are players Jets really don't need. Alternatively, Jets could retain 25-35% to make the numbers work. Retention is not too bad because it is only for 1 year in each case.

Buffalo:
to Jets, Mittelstadt
to Sabres, Hellebuyck
The cap works. Does either side add? Which one and how much?
Sabres have only 11 F with Mitts gone. We could add Harkins and/or Appleton but what do we get in exchange for the add? They are also a little thin on D after the top 3. Could we help them out there for an add?

Alternative:
to Jets, Kulich + Olofsson + 1st
to Sabres, Hellebuyck + Harkins + Appleton

Boston:
to Bruins, Scheifele
to Jets, Swayman
Bruins would want to send Grzelcyk or Carlo as the add/cap relief. If we took Grz we would need to flip him. I'd much rather get Carlo but he would have to waive. If Carlo is a no go I would suggest we get Geekie, retain 25-30% on Scheif and add Harkins.

Alternative:
to Bruins, Scheifele
to Jets, Ullmark
That makes the cap work. When was the last time a team traded the current Vezina holder? Ever? But Bruins could, having Swayman. Not sure they would though. That would put us right back in the same situation in goal a year from now. Ullmark also has trade protection so that option probably dies on the bargaining table.

There are other possible landing spots for both Scheif and Helle but these 2 look like such good fits I find it hard to see how they don't happen. Just a matter of working out the details. Of course, I have seen other trade matches made in heaven that never materialized. In fact no trade I have dreamed up has ever happened. But this time it is just too good a fit ........

It seems NJ are still the rumored best fit for Helle
Boston for Mark seems plausible.

I wonder if we also see a Dillion and or Stanley trade

My issue with Middelstat is you'd only get two years of control with his contract expiring next summer. He could easily arb his way to UFA. I only do it if he signs an extension this summer with us. If not we are looking at another PLD situation next summer. Just not enough team control coming back.

There might be more interest on Helle's part in NJ but they are not as good a fit for us. We don't get a top 6 C from them. Holtz is probably the main piece and he may not even be a top 6 winger. His value is not that of a 7 OA pick. It would not be too bad if we could get a top 4 RHD and a decent replacement goalie out of them but not as good as getting a top 6 C.

OTOH assuming Vanecek comes back we have not good, but adequate goaltending. Maybe we extend Scheifele in that case. Or maybe we look for a promising C prospect somewhere to trade him to. Scheif to Buffalo for Kulich + and Buffalo flip him to Boston for Swayman? Getting complicated but that's what Chevy gets the big money for.

We get the 3rd year from Mitts even if he arbs his way to UFA. But sure, that is a consideration. The guy we are trading is under team control for only 1 year.

I see a few possibilities to enhance our offers in return for the top 6 C and starting goalie. Besides Scheifele and Helle we can make any of Appleton, Iafallo, Kupari, Harkins, Dillon, Stanley or Heinola available in differing bundles. For the right returns of course. For the right returns, others could be available also including draft picks.

Lots of possibilities. The important point is that there are teams that need what we have and that have what we need.

Where are you getting the third year from? He already has 5 accrued seasons? Next year is his 6th. It's 7 accrued years or age 27 to UFA.
