I love that the marshmallow experiment is mentioned. Anyone not aware, you should look it up.

So these people propose that Winnipeg which can't sign free agents spend critical pieces for rentals? Sell the farm for a couple of months of player and then if you get knocked out of the playoffs then what? The players gone, the future assets and prospects gone all over 1 playoff run, what is left is bitterness of losing pieces that can help you for multiple years for 2 months of rentals. Most of these people would fail the marshmallow experiment so bad.
Bah, marshmallow experiment has zero relevance here unless you’re saying we are guaranteed a Stanley cup - but if we don’t make any moves we will get two!!!

I think the fox and the Grapes is much more applicable in general.

For some posters specifically, I would steer them towards the Lake Wobegon effect…..

Everyone relax, we have Apples

This is actually what annoys me the most about Cheveldayoff.

He doesn't need to go and trade for the big names on the market. I'd actually prefer he doesn't if it makes no sense or they're giving up too much. It doesn't need to be a top six player with every trade. It's when the Jets have glaring weaknesses in certain bottom six players, like Appleton for example, and there is seemingly no attempt to replace them with someone better to strengthen the team. It's this blind loyalty that is so irritating.

Great trade for the Avs but they still have not fixed their problem ... goaltending.
Avs out shooting the Red Wings 6-1 first period and the score is tied 1-1.

The team would be way better served to have Perfetti in the A developing chemistry with Lambert and Chib... then just get a high energy line for our 4th
Touchy subject and I don't disagree -
But I haven't lost faith in Perfetti

Like with, say, Nino and Names last season?

He is still top 6 in team scoring, is an important part of pp2 and that’s with beilg snake bit for 6 weeks.

First half of the year he was above .75ppg and was playing great.

There a lot of great players young and old in the league that haven’t produced as much as him but they aren’t going down.

I understand the thought given how the coach is using him but the point is he should be given another shot in the top 6 before ever thinking of sending him down. He has proven he can do it but hit a bad spell. You should help a young player through that, not further crush their confidence imo

No need to develop chemistry with Lambert and Chib, neither will likely be on the Jets next year. Better develop chemistry with players that will be there next year for sure.
Chef went up and down a few times, Perf can handle it to
Mark never played a game in the AHL. He went back to junior a couple of times though.

At the same age though Mark only scored 49 points (15 goals, Cole has 14 already) with a lot more opportunity and once went 23 games without a goal with the Jets.

Do you think there is any chance Stone isn't playing game 1 of the playoffs?
No. He’ll be in the lineup.

Still think the solution is having the team you ice in the playoffs cap compliant. Based on that year’s cap hit. So Vegas, you can ice Hanifin, Eichel, Stone, Petro, etc but maybe not Martinez or Carlson. Team you ice is $83.5 M, and not $100+ M.

Mark Scheifele got send back to the OHL twice by the Jets .
He was drafted after his 2010/11 season. In the 2011/12 season he attended Jets training camp and got 7 NHL games before being sent back to Barrie. After Barrie's season ended he went to the Ice Cap's for their playoff run.

In 2012/13 he got 4 games with the Jets before being sent back to Barrie again (for the 2nd time). HOLY! look at those point totals in the 12/13 playoffs

He became an NHL regular in the 2013/14 season.

So drafted in 2011
sent down 2011/12 season. After Barrie was eliminated from the playoffs he played in the AHL Playoffs
sent down 2012/13 season. Barrie went deep into the playoffs and Ice Cap's DNQ. So no AHL playoff games this season
NHL regular 2013/14 season

(God, I hope I got this right:laugh:)

And he chose #55 because his OHL #19 was taken by JIm Slater.

People keep repeating this but it’s not a valid solution. All “buyer” teams bank cap space throughout the year (including the Jets) to be able to buy players at the deadline. If you made everyone have to be at 83.5 during playoffs, there would legitimately be no more buyers and no more trade deadline. The cap space people are begging for the Jets to use right now in this thread was acquired by saving it up, not because we magically have a roster that amounts to under 83.5 when the dust settles. That’s just not how the cap works.

A more realistic fix is to just limit the relief granted by LTIR. If the spirit of LTIR is to allow teams at or near the cap/roster limits to replace an injured player, then just make the cap hit on LTIR the equivalent of burying it in the minors and only free up the minimum allowed. That way “burying” Stone on LTIR for 9M+ only actually frees up around 1.1M, or enough to call up 1 player and ice a full roster, as more likely intended.
