Is that a one year deal for Samberg? Seems like a horrible decision for the Jets if so.

It breaks down as follows...

Vilardi - 3 years @ $3,746,423
Samberg - 2 years @ $1,160,002
Barron - 2 years @ $1,345,564
Stanley - 1 year @ $1,000,000
Kupari - 1 year @ $874,125

Again this is not what I think can or will happen just took it off of AFP Analytics projections for 23/24 salaries and plugged it into CF to see what it could look like.

Don't forget Rangers fans with Trouba as well. How anyone can still assume that we will ever be the kind of franchise that will just let guys walk to FA is surprising as Chevy proves them wrong every single time yet they still parrot this line like they get a cracker.
Very fair point, @Daximus. I think it's very unlikely, given his track record, that Chevy lest Helle walk for nothing. My fears on that point were emotion-based and your post has brought be back to reality on that score.

I am still deeply concerned that he re-ups Schiefel for a Wheels-esque loyalty contract. This does fit with his MO of loyalty especially since Mark has been the face of the franchise and apparently given unlimited rope. Maybe with Wheels gone and with a contract that he feels is not such a discount he's reinvigorated and we see 17/18 beast mode Chef again but I'm concerned the bad attitude and stat collection with no interest in defence would continue even worse under a big contract.

Best we can offer is Alex Holtz, Vanecek and picks. If that is not enough, then Fitzgerald will wait for free agency. He has already stated publicly that he is happy to go with Vanecek and Schmid for the season after trading Blackwood.

This sounds familiar, but why do i feel like im having deja vu?

Oh yeah!

The Habs board posted this meme for 12 months straight...

Then their Board decided to wait for him until Free Agency (FA).

And then... this happened..

So I think I speak for most of us here in saying LMAO.

There is some concern for sure as far as Chefs next contract but we seem to be wanting to at least remain competitive so I have a feeling Chevy is trying to get a deal done with Scheif otherwise the C spot is looking pretty rough going forwards.

If Scheif stays then hopefully best case scenario is we lock him up for 6 years max term at around $8.5m

Not sure how realistic that is but it's the best case scenario for keeping him I think.

6 @ 8.5 is something I could live with. Not sure if he will get an offer as competitive elsewhere.

I think other teams would be willing to go that high. If he was a UFA right now he's probably snagging 7x$9 I'd bet given the market.

The trouble I think is not many teams want to pay us and sign that kind of deal.

I'd do more for less term. 4/$37m

I think Scheif is looking for his retirement deal. If he was a UFA right now he's probably getting a 7 year deal and looking to retire at 37. To many variables in place not to try and maximize your earnings rather than betting on yourself to remain healthy well into your mid 30's.

That makes sense. I’m hopeful that they’re able to go long term on Samberg and Vilardi.

Does Scheifele even want to stay?

It sounds like he may be open to it.

Vilardi likely won't want to go much more than 3 years. He may even want a 2 year deal just to prove himself a bit more to earn on his next deal. Samberg I could see taking more term if it's offered.

That’s probably true about Valardi, but he hasn’t made much during his career so far and it seems that the Kings gave him a take or leave it offer for his last contract. I wonder if he might take the security of something like 5.5M x 6

He might be more open to a deal like that but with the cap going up major over the next few years we are seeing more and more younger players betting on themselves to have better seasons and Vilardi seems like the kind of player that could flourish here.

Wait…..are you saying that your offer is a take it or leave it or otherwise you will just sign him in a year for free. Because you can’t say that. The Habs are only allowed to use that line of thinking
Yeah, where have we heard that strategy before? We’ll wait for free agency is a rock solid plan. How’d that work out for Montreal?

We might as well start rationalizing it because the likelihood seems to be going up
I agree but those two signing here for 5 years at $9.75 and/or 8 years at $8.5 will prove it's all about the money.

PS. I'd take the money over the Cup too.

I think if NJ wants to get greedy and insists on salary retention then maybe its okay to get greedy back. We know how the Jets feel about retention haha.

If you're NJ at that point you'd probably just ride it out closer to deadline when the salary is easier to fit in?

I think you're on the right track here for sure though.

Vanecek, Holtz a 1st and a young depth piece is around where I think it ends up
Would add something on our end to get Seamus Casey added into the deal.

We're talking Helly, no?

As it stands with the roster barring no more changes, we’re a playoff team. Wild card to be specific.

Without Helle? God on knows lol
Extend Helle for 2 years at $10 and pay for it with the playoff money. He can then sign long term when the Cap is much higher.

If you move out helle, I don't think you necessarily need a goalie coming back in that trade. I think you could get Thompson or Vladar and go cheaper in net via trade. Maybe Stanley or and Harkins for Thompson or Vladar. I think you can keep 55 and trade helle for a package that doesn't include a goalie also

Why is NJ the only option? We could trade him as a 1 year rental if we felt like it to anyone

Scheif 7 x 8.25m front loaded.
Helle 5 x 9.2m.
Samberg 5 x 4m.
Vilardi 6 x 5.5m.

Pay to dump Schmidt and admit your mistake.

I think you're right, that's going to be a bit more of a trend with these younger guys signing shorter term deals to get them closer to bigger money deals down the road in places they're fine with playing long term. Vilardi has 4 years of control left, I can't see him signing beyond 4 years at this point.
