Yeah I don't know why he wouldn't be available...no NMC/NTC, 31, upcoming UFA, scoring well. I've never seen a more deadline-worthy player from a non-playoff team's perspective.

Maybe they are trying to be anti Buffalo by trying to keep their good vets around to support all that young talent they have.

They really don't need more of it atm.

Yes, the Devils are getting .882 goaltending but the problem is not enough vets? You'd think Lamo would know the importance of having decent goaltending...

Well yeah goaltending is their biggest issue. Doesn't mean that you need to punt contributing vets if you want to keep them.

Personally I think this is all just bluster to try to drive up his value.

I think we can shake loose a pretty good winger with the MTL 2nd, lots of guys on the market.

Guentzel
Buch
Tarasenko
Toffoli

Perfetti - Names - Tarasenko 4th line would be nuts if we get fully healthy.

I don't think the idea of acquiring tarasenko would be to play him on the 4th line. He'd be top 6 with Iafallo bounced down or out.

If Vilardi's health makes him doubtful, Toffoli might be a good option for a top-6 RW role.

Who would be a better target, Toffoli or Tarasenko? Which would be available for a lower price? Would price tip the scales?

Either one might enable us to build an effective 2nd line around Ehlers.

Us looking for a winger seems to add up...

LW depth chart the way Bowness has preferred it:

Connor
Niederreiter
Ehlers
Barron

RW depth chart since Perfetti struggles:

Vilardi (Namestnikov)
Appleton
Iafallo
Perfetti

I imagine they are looking for a right shot with top six ability that can slot in behind Appleton and Vilardi. So Namestnikov doesn't need to leave center to fill in and they don't need to play Perfetti top six.

TLDR; they are shopping for Perfetti's replacement this year

Or Vilardi's if he is out long term and can't come back.

Maybe, but Friedman went from Jets doing nothing a couple of days ago to the Jets now shopping for a winger. The Vilardi thing is the only thing that has changed there.
they were basically talking about teams he was told he was wrong about after his blog post, mentioned how la was still trying to do things like reilly smith then added that he was told by people that winnipeg was looking at wingers, so it may not be that we just started looking at wingers but more that he just found out we were

Very possible.

Vilardi's health may have added to the urgency and also to the level of winger they are looking for. Even if he is back soon, this 2nd injury this season serves as a reminder of his history.

I wouldn't put too much stock in changes to what Friedman says. There has been talk of Jets looking for a winger for a lot longer than the last couple of days.
