That is a possibility. But if we had made the better offer Flames would have asked him to waive. They wouldn't have said they also had an offer from Dallas and left it up to him to choose. They would have focused on the better offer. He might have said no and told them to go find something else. But we haven't heard any suggestion that he refused.

I assume Wpg was on his NT list. We are on everyone's list. But this is also the guy who recommended his brother sign with us. I think he would have waived. Can't know any of that for certain of course.

The discussion is, of necessity, speculative.
Exactly my point. We don't have any evidence that a trade was even possible, so it's pointless to use this non-trade to assess the Jets' trade performance.

Chevy is grinding Seattle for Larsson.

You would think that Tanev's brother would have put in a good word for Winnipeg.

I don't think there's any chance of getting Hanifin. He has made it widely known that his next contact will be on the US east coast so all those teams will be willing to outbid the Jets for the opportunity to acquire and sign. Even if a deal can't be worked out teams like BOS and NJ would offer way more as they likely feel they have a legitimate shot at re-signing the player if they can get him into the mix.

I think the ship has sailed for any major upgrade at D for a rental anyway. I could see Chevy trading for someone with term but for pending UFAs I think we are into the #7/#8 D man area now.
Agree, I think most likely we pick up some defensive depth. It would be nice to get a clear RHD upgrade over Schmidt and Pionk, but we know that top pair RHD are extremely hard to find and cost a ton to acquire, and even a nice 2nd pair RHD would be expensive and hard to find (non rentals to be clear). Plus we have those 2 on the books next year so that gets complicated as something has to happen in the summer with them if we added someone on the right with term, and we also have DD and BD that need to be addressed (cap complexity).

But I could see another depth D, and maybe the possibility that Ville gets in some games and he possibly becomes a black ace or rotational guy (depending if they feel he's better served as a Black Ace or a part of a Moose playoff team).

Maybe the Flames asked Tanev to waive for the Jets and he said no thank you. It was widely reported the Dallas was interested in Tanev, and his agent probably had a good handle on how interested they were. All Tanev had to do at this point is hold out for a preferred destination.

I thought it said/rumored he wanted to go to an US team........
So I'm guessing undesirable Canadian markets were on his no trade list and he didn't budge off of it.

There are still a couple RHD that would be clear upgrades, at least on Schmidt. DeMelo is still without a contract for next season which is a big question mark that Chevy would have much more info on. It is hard to get a read on what Chevy will do, but I'm hoping for something substantial on defense.

He's closer to extending in Detroit than being moved. Also the woke crowd won't love it.

Flyers fan here. I have read that the Jets may be interested in one or two or all three of Scott Laughton, Nick Seeler, and Sean Walker. Any speculation up there about this, and what do you feel would be fair in potential deals?

Actually Brandon T said that his brother suggested he sign with Jets out of college because they had a good program and would be straight with him. Doesn’t mean that he wanted to spend the rest of the season here but he obviously had a good opinion of the Jets organization.

I think one of these two are gone or maybe both ... Jets need to get bigger on defense and get that RHD with a hard shot.

That's two Scott Laughtons too many!
LOL He's actually really good. I started to type Sean Walker, but then I switched to keep it forward, d-man, d-man.

Sean Walker is probably available, but he is UFA and wants a raise. And the Flyers brass values him fairly highly as rentals go.

He'd be great with Morrissey.
Not really a TDL type deal. They would want substantial pieces coming back. They have a veteran lineup with tons of trade protection so they seem a unlikely candidate for a rebuild any time soon, so you are looking at now players going back. Not even considering his full NTC.

So what is the rumoured asking price on Walker?

The rumor was a 1st rounder, but I have read they would consider a Tanev-type deal, a 2nd and 3rd/prospect.

I'm wondering what the price on Larsson would be? A move like that would also set us up well for next season.
I don't see how Seattle moves him they have absolutely nothing coming up prospect wise to replace him and thier D is already very weak behind Dunn. If he was a UFA and was clearly not resigning sure but I don't see it this year.

Eberle would be a nice add but who comes out of the lineup? Right now it's probably Perfetti not sure that's the right move.

Larsson has a NTC and a year of term still left. No way he waives it to move to Wpg for a year and a half - Seattle is a borderline playoff team. It’s not like he’s running from a sinking ship.
