This is true... then again, the board would not exist without speculation and opinion haha

The only thing we know about trade deadline is that the live broadcast is going to be painful, slow and cringey.
Are they changing it this year? Or is it next year?
Aren't they thinking of doing it something like a Zoom call where all of the people stay in their respective cities? Nobody gathers on the main floor of some arena?
Wrong move, in my opinion, if that is what they are doing.
Would love to see it in Winnipeg.

IMO our peak contention window is likely a couple years away yet. We have a lot of young talent likely ready within the next couple years and if they hit before we start seeing a drop off in our originally drafted core Chevy might just hit the sweet zone with this team. I would say this team is the 2nd most talented team behind 2017-2018, we are just better coached to better maximize our talent.

Scheifele and Hellebuyck are likely at their peaks right now. They won't fall of a cliff but they will be less effective 2 years from now than they are now. More certainly with Scheifele simply because goalies are so unpredictable. Helle is having the best season of his career. I doubt he gets any better in future.

Four of our top 6 Dmen finish their contracts by the end of next year. We currently have potential replacements for only 2 of them, assuming they hit their potential.

We have 4, maybe 5 F prospects with high end potential but we can assume that they will not all hit. Those who do may be ready for the NHL in another year or two but they won't mature as players for another couple of years after that. By the time they do, Scheif and Helle will certainly be in clear decline.

It is only these next 2-3 seasons we can expect to have the best goalie in the world. We have a couple of promising G prospects. We can hope one of them is ready to take over as starter in 3-4-5 years, but the odds of either reaching Helle's level are pretty slim.

Our prospects might be able to keep us competitive beyond these coming 3 PO runs, but it isn't likely that we will be able to contend with them.

Andersson fills a hole and his current contract covers the period during which we are likely to be able to truly contend. After that we will be having to transition to a new core and who knows what might happen?

So what RHD are we going to get? The only real one available is Tanev or Walker and it goes down from there. That doesn't cost your top prospects. Andersson is a pipe dream posted as click bait. He isn't on any trade bait lists nor has there been any credible sources saying he is available, just that Calgary has been rejecting offers for him. Calgary isn't trading him for picks and prospects at the TDL. If they move him it will be in a hockey trade for good young now players.

Agree that Andersson is unlikely. Flames love him and they are terribly short on Dmen. Therefore a very strong offer to see if he can be pried out. But probably still isn't enough.

Tanev and Walker draw much lighter returns. I'm not sure I'm even interested in Walker. Not that he isn't good enough but I don't see him as the right type. I like Tanev but I suspect someone is going to pay too much.

I do have to wonder about a potential top 6 winger add vs a D…. I’m as big of a fan of 91 as anyone but I REALLLLLYYYY don’t know what to expect out of him come playoffs. He’s been a bit of a phantom as the games have gotten tougher. Again, I’m a big Fetts guy but….

Serious question. Are we a better team without Kyle Connor? The numbers seem to say yes.
Not enough gp to conclude over a full season imo. However they did play their best without him, not that they were bad with him either though. I think they can be less rigid on how they play him in the lineup though.

Big question for the Jets is whether they think Heinola can step into the lineup and keep them winning if one of their RD is injured. At the beginning of the year, the answer would have been "yes". Right now, it's much more a "maybe", I think. He's not really shown top form with the Moose, and Bowness has been clear about that. Still, Chevy keeps mentioning him as an "internal addition", though that might also be posturing for the trade market.

If they aren't confident in Heinola by the trade deadline, I could see them adding a RD. Walker would likely be a good fit, but might be costly. Alex Carrier might also be a good fit. I think Tanev might be a bit pricey. In the end, it will depend on supply and demand. I'd bet the Jets would like to hang onto the Habs' 2024 2nd round pick, as it's close to a late 1st in value. If they can get Walker or Carrier for a B prospect and a lower pick, that might be their direction.

Heinola, Chibrikov and Lambert seem like the players to scout on the Moose. I could see the Jets moving Chibrikov or maybe Heinola for a player with term, or maybe that they could extend, but I doubt they'd move Lambert as a TDL move.

Yes, I didn't do the numbers, thanks for this. It confirms what I'm seeing.

Re: trading Connor...

I get it, he's a one dimensional scoring winger and people hate those. BUT right now the Jets sit at 19th in the league for goals for/game... if we didn't have Connor, we'd be out looking for a Connor

The only issue is that he's not scoring right now. Once he starts burying his chances again (and he will) this will all look like silly talk

We could senf them Schmidt and Arvid Holm?
I meant GOOD RHD and a GOOD goalie

Yeah like I said I don't know if the answer is get rid of him. But over those 16 games it shows this team has line combos that can still create chances or score goals at a high rate and thrive ie: ESV, and they did beat some pretty good teams in that stretch.

Idk how they watch him try to defend or make a shit ton of soft plays, while preaching accountability, and his TOI or deployment is just ho hum no change.

I think Mitts and Peterka with a 2nd is fair and they would add quite a bit of scoring. Mitts is good at 5 vs 5 and would probably be a pretty good 2C for us.

Going to use this as a jumping off post....

So from KCs injury to his return the Jets were iirc 8th in gf/60 and 2nd at 5v5 gf/60...still same pp issues so all strengths taking a hit. But performed V well at 5v5 and overall.

Since he returned - 31st in both.

We've added Monahan, effectively KC from Jan 16 onward, and now a possible other top 6er being thought of.

Methinks this is a chemistry /lineup-mix issue not individual player. A slump is a couple players unable to score... but we're talking essentially an entire team (with presumably an upgraded roster) for nearly 15 gp being the worst in the nhl at scoring, :dunno:

Based on how the Jets are currently configured and player usage, I would think that the Jets are more likely to trade Ehlers than Connor. Bowness clearly values Connor much more than Ehlers, so I highly doubt that the Jets would trade Connor instead of Ehlers. Something to watch.

Agreed, seems all of the Jets coaches (since Ehlers made the NHL) like KC more then Ehlers. Ehlers is fun to watch, exciting often.......but can also be frustrating to watch at times how he plays. KC game to game you know what you get........Ehlers at times is like a box chocolates, not always sure which Ehlers is showing up. When Ehlers is playing his A game, he might be my favorite player on the Jets, but when he's not playing his A game he can be invisible at times which is frustrating when he has so much skill.

There are two chemistry issues on this team:

1) Connor plays too much relative to how much support he needs at 5v5, and
2) The Lowry line gets far too much 5v5 ice time relative to its offensive potential.

That's about it. For years, there has been no flexibility with those two points. Funnily enough, the same issues persist. Lots of posters see it, yet the ones who are getting paid to see it don't.

I don't see what a top 6 winger would add to this team. Unless you get someone who turns the 81-55 pairing into a blossoming success after years of mediocrity, it's literally not going to matter. Meanwhile, that's going to push one of Ehlers, Perfetti, or Vilardi down to the 4th, which is surely going to lighten up the mood in that room.

If we wanted to fix the chemistry, the first move would be to pick one of Connor and Lowry, and build the fourth line around them. One, not both. Go from there and see what happens. We would gain some wiggle room, that's for sure - both moves would break dysfunctional pieces of the puzzle that have remained in place for far, far too long now.

If this is true, then why aren’t Namestnikov, Iafallo and Barron lighting it up playing sheltered 4th line minutes?

Ehlers isn’t trusted because he constantly turns the puck over at the opposing blue line.

Don't expect anyone to produce points when playing 10 minutes a night on the fourth.

Jets were a more difficult team to play against with Toninato and AJF on the 4th line and generated more scoring chances.

So if you took Connor, Scheifele and Vilardi and played them exclusively against the opposing team’s 4th lines and bottom pairs for ten minutes a night, they wouldn’t score any goals?
