Age and contact status. Hard to tell this year, it isn't a rich player pool but there at also lots of teams maxed out.

My frustration with Appleton is mostly usage. He's a 4th liner and nothing more. There at least 2 players is rather have on the 3rd line over him.

He just kills so many plays and makes bad decisions with the puck. He's not a small man but a strong wind knocks him over.

I honestly don't see why the org likes him so much.

I think what makes it particularly frustrating is that the line gets used more like a 2A/2B line than a 3rd line. He's getting minutes that are just completely unjustified. If that line was getting 12-14 minutes a night there'd probably be a lot less people complaining. Averaging 16:00 TOI and occasionally playing upwards of 20 is just too much.

KFC for Mitts - who says no?
Without an extension, I think Chevy would be a little gun-shy to trade for a guy who is in a similar contract situation as PLD when he traded for him

Same could be said for the Sabres

My ideal replacement for him on that line would be Vatrano. Could the Ducks be enticed by Iafallo +? They’d be quite familiar with him from his time in LA.

Their organization is loaded with LHD so Stanley isn’t an option, but a pick and/or a B prospect could work if we have a prospect they like. Iafallo’s cap hit wouldn’t be a problem for them.

All that said, I doubt Chevy moves on from Iafallo this season.

i did like vatrano also. however, idk what benefit the Ducks really have in iafallo right now though.

vatrano still has another year on his contract so it's not like they'd be in a big rush to move him this year if it's not some great offer.

Dang, if HF had a media/article outlet, you can say the same for supposed coaches on here when it comes to ahl players or prospects

OK thanks - or not.
I said in the post if it got that far in regards to including Jets prospects.

The point is that we would not have had to match the Van offer piece for piece. It is in response to the idea that we don't have a Kuzmenko and therefore could not have outbid Van for Lindholm. We certainly could have if we had chosen to. What that might have taken would be open to conjecture.

A lot of talk about trading for Mitts, so I thought I'd check out the Sabre board on their fans wants. Most don't want to trade him as many consider him to be one of their better 2-way players. Granted it is just fan talk but it doesn't seem to be a good fit for the Jets. Their priority list seems to be a top end starter, or a top 4 RHD (still in his prime with term) since all their young talent is LHD. Failing that a comparable 200 foot forward, or some combination of the above. There appears to be little interest in prospects, picks or garbage (IE. no desire in Stanley especially as he is a LHD).

We were a fit in the off-season at one point. Buffalo was not willing to pay. Now we are not a fit. We can't spare what they want.

Jets. KFC for Thompson tho I wonder?

Hmmmmm?

Maybe not an outright no, but Jets have to add. Tage is a C, younger and signed. The add might be reasonable. But I think that what they really want is a goalie.

And OTOH, Sabres have recent experience with a 1 way, high scoring winger that might put them off.

Not sure trading Iafallo is the best idea. Clearly he is part of the defense first philosophy the team is employing now. Probably better to see how the playoffs go.
Iafallo may not be getting goals right now (he seems snake bit imo) but he shouldn’t be in anyone’s doghouse. He’s on the fourth line and plays a very good defensive game.

Come on.

It's not like Thompson is having a fantastic season, but they're never touching that deal.

At some point in the next 2-3 years, we'll have to face the fact that Connor is a terrible cornerstone for any team. A team with strong play drivers and a solid C group can accommodate him, but few teams have the resources to give up a driver for Connor without becoming way worse. I hope we realise this before making the decision on his potential extension.

And I couldn't be happier that we got Helly to stay.

And Scheif too.

I was looking at getting a C for Helle and a G for Scheif. So it was either keep both or neither for me. One without the other would have been mostly wasted. Just enough to keep us from getting high draft picks.

Keeping both has given us a window for the next few years.

Ya I know it's a stretch, but I honestly think Connor is closer in value to Thompson than Mittlestadt. I don't understand what makes Connor a "terrible cornerstone for any team". Like, most contenders have elite offensive wingers. I guess Vegas doesn't really. Since 2019 he has the most points for the Jets, how can they be better by getting rid of him? Especially considering the Jets are one of the better defensive teams (8th) and worse offensive teams (18th) in that time period.

Henola and LB and a pick for CM, pick up a low end backup Goalie since we are riding Helly in the playoffs and if he goes down, we don’t advance anyways

Toninato put on waivers today
Someone on here was telling me just the other day it'd be foolish asset management to do that...
