Going to guess that whatever the Flames wanted had Lambert in it. I don't see which worse prospect of ours they would have preferred (Brz is 19, which is huge given where the Flames are at), and Kuzmenko should be a much more valuable cap dump than anything we could have given them. Either that, or then it could have been another first rounder on top of the 2024 1st.

I think the Jets are close to being able to fit a player like Tanev under their cap at the TDL, with some room to spare (e.g. for Perfetti's performance bonuses).

If the Flames were pushing for a defenseman, they are not settling for Stanley over Salo or Heinola. Also probably wanting a roster player up the food chain than Iafallo. The Canucks paid a big price, enough to back Chevy off.
