I never thought of Mantha before, he would be great on the Lowry line with Neo .

Honest question but isn't Mantha not great defensively, and some of the prior criticisms of his play was that he could be pretty lazy?

I'm asking because playing on Lowry's line requires a good defensive player due to their usage.

While I don't believe they will do it before the offseason at the absolute earliest I think Iffallo could be moved fairly easily especially if the Jets are willing to retain 25% which for one year you are probably ok with if you absolutely have to do it.

If and it is a big if Monny is a really strong fit and you need to shell out 4-5 to keep him in the fold then I think that's a fairly easy move to make.

On the subject of Perfetti what do people think he will get? Is the Tippitt contract a decent comparable?

He'll likely get in around the cap% of Vilardi on a bridge or in the range of Ehlers and KC on a longterm.

He absolutely wouldn't be a fit based of what I've seen.

Likely not, you're right. I'm filing it in the "never say never" category haha. He just lives Appleton too much I think.

The Sens fans I asked said he was real bad defensively on his off side too. Cpyotes fans too. That cooled my Jets on him when I heard that.
How much better is rookie mcgroarty over any of our top 9 wingers for it to be worth it to burn a year on his ELC?

I haven't followed mantha closely for years. But knock on him was shift to shift consistency or effort. This is like the usual criticism for young players. I think if they didn't have Nino he could be in the Nino spot. However the other wing is primary a forecheck guy in my eyes.

I don't watch him enough but he's a big guy that can apparently score. Just thought putting him with Neo and Lowry could be a big punishing line that can score for the playoffs .

I guess that one is in the eye of the beholder aka Bowness

But I agree it is not likely he cracks the lineup at this stage if he signs

I don’t recall anyone, anywhere thinking Stastny was a bad move.

I will admit that I was against it. Just do not like high priced rentals.

I have backed off just a bit.

I am wholeheartedly behind it this year, because I like this edition of the Jets AND we have the prospect pool to support spending assets to go all in. I wanted another off the board deal from Chevy. One with a little term like Jenner. Who knows, maybe he tried and couldn't spring one like that. But I am hoping Monahan gets the job done. If he makes another deal or 2, I am on board for that too as long as he doesn't give away any of our best prospects.

Just to reiterate i don't have a qualified view on him for recent years

He's big but he doesn't play big. He's more finesse than crash and bang in terms of offense.

Jenner and the guys you think are available aren’t actually available to Winnipeg. When ppl finally accept and understand this, things will make more sense.

You realize who you're responding to? Refuses to accept anything, even the multi-quote button.

If you have to guarantee McGroarty a spot on the Jets as soon as he signs then that's exactly what you do. Because if Rutger goes back to college next season you can wave bye-bye to the thought of him ever being a Jet. There isn't much wiggle room to offer him a better salary so you have to make concessions in other ways.

But we're his favorite team :(

Jets are trying to win a cup, they can't be out there guaranteeing spots to guys in a lineup hoping to contend. The best I can see them guaranteeing is burning off a year of his ELC. Jets haven't done this much (maybe only Copp) but other teams do it so I can see them doing it but guaranteeing spots is probably out of question. They didn't even do that for Kyle Connor who had nearly 80 points in 35 games while the Jets were in a lost season lol.

I don't think you need to guarantee him a spot in the starting lineup. Just bring him in, commit to not sending him to the Moose, play him in one game down the stretch to burn the year on his ELC. Guaranteeing a spot in the starting lineup would be a little much, I agree. But I also think the team would love to have him as depth in the playoffs... He's already a better player than anyone outside our starting 12 forwards. I'd easily take him over Axel, Toni, Gus and probably even Kupari. He's also better equipped to contribute to the bottom six than Connor ever was.

I think they sign Rutger and give him his signing bonus as soon as his season is done.

If a spot is locked up for the playoffs and they can't move up or down a spot, I see him getting games.
If they are in a battle, he gets one or two games...unless he blows down the doors.
Maybe he makes the team next year out of TC? Bones plays him with Nino and Lowry for the first season or so and lets him learn the D part of the pro game. If he plays like he should move up the roster, move him up the roster.

I might be wrong but I think we could buyout Schmidt for 2m and 2m which clears the space - maybe you have to move on from Dillon
I think at this point you keep Schmidt around. Good PB guy or partner him with Heinola on the third pair. Need to re-sign Demelo.

Morrissey Demelo
Samberg Pionk
Heinola Salomonsson/Schmidt

aside: Salomonsson-Schmidt would be a great surname if they were to ever have kids.

Trouble is we are moving away from one of our most reliable Dmen and keeping Pionk/Schmidt who are not generating anything other than high danger chances.

Schmidt can't cover net front - you can fake that for the first half of the season but not in the playoffs.

Don't know if he's available but Im hoping the Jets target Lyubushkin - mostly because his goal song is 'Im a Gummy Bear' but also other factors.

lebrun mention on his podcast that he heard the jets were the runners up on lindholm
not surprised. the Jets quickly dealt for Monahan right after. I do wonder who the Jets were dangling as far as prospects go, if it got that far.

The list of prospects that Chevy has dealt at the TDL or in other NHL-player trades (ie: excluding N. Smith refusing to sign) is a v short one.

Very curious what our package was compared to the Flames then.
Going to guess that whatever the Flames wanted had Lambert in it. I don't see which worse prospect of ours they would have preferred (Brz is 19, which is huge given where the Flames are at), and Kuzmenko should be a much more valuable cap dump than anything we could have given them. Either that, or then it could have been another first rounder on top of the 2024 1st.
