BTW, and I know we learned this with the PLD saga, but MTL fans are delusional.

Monahan for a 1st and an A prospect is just laughable on its face, even if he was a stylistic fit as a 2/3 C on a contender (something I believe he's definitely not)

Even within the Jets fanbase, the people who want to go after Monahan want him in exchange for MTL's own 2nd round pick.

Guess they got just the 1st

Monahan 100% is a plan B move, but at least he's a center, not the one we all wanted but he's a body at 2C. Lets just hope he doesn't fold like a cheap suit when the physical play starts. I want to see the next moves, Monahan trade isn't our top choice but he's better then nothing, now make some other moves plz chevy.
labeling him as just a body at 2C when you spent a 1st+ on him doesn't really instill any confidence . Namestnikov was closer to a body and he costed a 4th

Certainly not my or most fans first pick, so not super happy about it, but we move on and make the best of it
i was not opposed to him, but really didn't think he was going to be a 1st+ level player at the TDL, more in between the Nino (2nd) and Namestnikov (4th).... so call it a 3rd .

i don't think there were many great options to spend a 1st+ on tbh, this TDL seems to be kind of weak.

I can see why Chevy picked him up and he will for sure see time on the PP with his FO%. His price probably would have got higher as the TD grew nearer.
I'm glad he made the trade early so he can get acclimated with his team mates.
Chevy needs to go out and get Larsson now.
I doubt that happens seeing as he wouldn't pony up for Lindholm.
Money hands is a Jet now so I am 100% behind him until he changes my mind. Stay healthy boi!

So what does it take to get Tanev? Montreal's 2nd and a relatively small add? Upgrading at RHD checks the other box of greatest needs.

Would love to work something centered around the 2025 Jets 2nd and Stanley. Would take likely another piece but that framework would be ideal.

Keep the MTL 2nd in the chamber for this year and continue to hope the Canadiens sell off assets and continue to drop games.

That would be ideal, but Montreal's 2024 2nd will hold a fair amount more value than our 2025 2nd.

probably? however the Jets seem to want 3 x puck-movers, and 3 x defensive-first players. he isn't replacing morrissey, pionk or schmidt in terms of the puck-mover role. and i don't think he's a surefire upgrade over any of demelo, dillon, or samberg on defense. the Jets combo of defense and goaltending is the best in the league with each pairing pretty well. don't really see it as a fit, especially at a cost of a high 2nd.

Samberg has been moving the puck pretty good lately. Maybe we move up Samberg to 2nd pairing with Tanev. Partner Dillon and Pionk on 3rd pairing.

Samberg - Tanev sounds like an amazing second pairing, I'm all aboard the Tanev train now that you've posted that. Before in my head I always just put him with Morrissey for some reason

Would leave Dillon - Pionk which has always been pretty good, especially for playoffs since Pionk shows up for big games

I wonder if any team would want Iafallo at the deadline. He hasn't impressed for a while now and knowing that Appleton won't be benched I feel like he's kind of an odd man out. Chevy really likes Kupari and if Iafallo and Appleton are in the lineup Kupari won't be.
A team like the Ducks who have a lot of cap space could take him as a warm body if shipping a veteran player out, but will likely need a small + added. Then flip him at next year’s deadline for an additional asset.

He could have value to other playoff/ bubble teams, but they have to have the cap space.

We are pretty strong down the middle once Scheifele is ready to go, having Lowry as your top line centre doesn't work, 3rd line centre is as high up as he should ever be.
Have to agree, as it's not a good idea running Lowry as a 1st line center while Scheifele is gone. He does not have the hands to finish and score, or vision to be a 1st line center. I just don't understand how Bones thinks on this ? Lowry is perfect for a 3rd or 4th line center, and also an enforcer to protect our smaller guys. Just hope Scheifele is back soon.

I like the thinking on this until the waiving Schmidt part. They won't waive Schmidt for a few reasons, he would still be your 7th best defenseman and no team ever goes through the playoffs only needing 6 defenseman. Also, no one will claim him so you are parking most of his cap hit on the Moose while throwing a grenade into the dressing room as Schmidt is extremely popular with his team mates by all accounts.

Once we get to the TDL there are no roster limits so you can keep Heinola on the Moose until then, unless you have to move him up to cover for an injury.

I think it's important to look at how he got those points tho. 15 pp points on 4mins a night.

Will he see that same usage here, if so, who are you taking off pp1?

In 5v5 pts he and Lowry are basically equal in totals and rates, with Namestnikov slightly ahead of both. And then consider each of their defensive games (Monahan totally could improve here vs what he's shown in MTL)
We could take anyone off the power play, it can't get any worse.

Let's see how he does with different linemates and a different system. Trying to over analyze it before he plays is silly. He had 82 pts a few years ago, which isn't that relevant but Names and Lows have and never will reach ppg status.

He's a solid 2C. Let's see if he fits in.

The waiving Schmidt part was totally sarcastic, but I didn’t add an emoji. You’re absolutely right. We will need him as 7.

Lol why would we waive Schmidt? That's incredibly dense asset management.

He's playing pretty well and as much as I want Ville to get his shot if you're trying to go deep in the playoffs why would you waive an experienced defenseman that the players love, has great defensive stats, can play both sides and bring some offense in favor of a kid with nearly zero nhl experience who is still an unknown?

If we grab Tanev, you simply wait until roster expansion and call Ville up then to maybe get a few games to get him ready and he can experience the playoff run first hand.

Edit: just read the sarcasm part

The jets must really be going all in trading a 1st for a player with no future potential.
I don’t think tanev is that good enough to make a sizeable difference. Our 1 big advantage against all playoff teams is our goaltending.

Really don't think the Jets need another stay at home /defense first type dmen. This teams been incredible in the GA department with a combo of defense and their goaltending.

Now a bit more offense from the back I can get by certainly, chris tanev isn't that guy though.

Would have been in favor of Chychrun but without a 1st and chevy's low propensity to move high end prospects I don't think that'll happen. Not sure who else is really available.

If we had gotten Lindholm that would have been our only deal, at least now we can add a defenseman . Another good thing about the Monahan trade.

You need defensive depth to win in the playoffs.

Games get even tougher and injuries are par for the course. Getting Tanev gives us a bona-fide veteran depth defenseman in Schmidt.

For something like a 35th oa pick and a b prospect, if you're not pulling the trigger on that when you've been competing for first all year, then you're wasting a rare opportunity for a pic and prospect that will likely be a dime a dozen player, if that.
