So you are suggesting then that they are going to go into sell mode because there are teams chasing them? Pretty much throws out the window any kind of competitive mindset.
Never said that, I said they're not firmly in a playoff spot. They're literally closer to being out of the playoffs than any other playoff team in the East.

So you disagreed with the word used not the general sentiment? We have all been there and get caught up, but I’m trying to avoid these debates where there is no real disagreement.

Considering them being firmly in a playoff spot was your entire argument for them not making moves it seemed like a fair thing to point out. In terms of my opinion they've lost 5 in a row in regulation and they have 14 games left until the trade deadline. They could very well be out of a spot by then and if they are I would expect some pieces to be moved out.

It wasn’t my entire argument. Why would you think it was? How about I change "firmly in" and change it to "currently in" and leave the rest of my argument the same. No team currently in a playoff position is going to go into sell mode in late January.

Why would the Flyers start selling off roster players while firmly in a playoff position?
Someone posted a clip somewhere of Tortorella talking about how the Flyers can’t let their place in the standings sway them from the long term plan. He reiterated that they’re evaluating all their players and tough decisions may have to be made if players are not seen as integral pieces to the long term plan.

I’m paraphrasing here, but it was something along those lines hinting that they could still sell players by the TDL.

Frost would be a great add with term, but I'm sure if Chevy adds a forward *faceoffs* will be a key factor for Old Man Bones.

I think Henrique would fit that, Montreals second could be the best pick offered. Wins faceoffs so Bones will have trust to deploy him and his linemates (assuming Ehlers/Perfetti) a bit more.

Kinda annoying how the FO% is something we gotta pay attention to just because Bones is obsessed with that stat. Really hope that doesn't raise Monahan's stock with Chevy.

One thing we all know and have seen is we can't handle a injury to Scheifele very well. We lost Connor for a long time and didn't skip a beat, same with Vilardi but Scheifele gets hurt and we lose alot of our offense. That's why we have to get a good 2nd line center. Jenner from Columbus or Mittelstadt from Buffalo might be nice additions .

We also lost Ehlers last year and it wasn’t as big a problem as schief’s injury.

Wonder if the Jets could pry Jiricek out of CBus. There is a history of trades between the teams and GMs. I think they would be crazy to move him but he isn't happy and might be demanding a move but he signed a contract already.

Nelson, Mitts, and Jenner would be amazing additions IMO due to their contracts as well. Not sure if any are really available, but any of the 3 would be nice.

It would be hard to see the Jackets move him, but it would certainly take something that would hurt to get him.

Nobody's carrying him on the PK...he's just a solid defensive defenseman and the way the Jets split their d pairs into Defense/Offense I'm not sure there's a much better defensive 1-2-3 than DeMelo, Dillon and Samberg.

I think I would give up anyone but him for the guy but I bet they would want him
At face value, Jiricek has higher value than McGroarty, but McGroarty seems likely to be a real enhancement to the team culture, whereas the Jets don't tend to do well with "restless" young players. If the Jets didn't have Salomonsson in their prospect pool, the need might be greater for the Jets.

The bottom pairing of Samberg and Schmidt is one of the best in the NHL, defensively.
Weird they keep them as third pairing then.

If they’re one of the best pairings in the whole nhl - what a terrible coaching decision to not give them more ice time.

Or maybe Samberg paired with anyone is extremely high defensively

And - they are sheltered minutes against teams 3rd and 4th lines.

Don’t get me wrong, still great and impressive how they are doing. I think it needs some context and worth calling out some defensive numbers actually improved when Schmidt was out and Stanley and Chisholm were in.

Can't see CBJ trading a cost-controlled RHD that fits with their pending rebuild... think there's more of a chance that Peeke gets moved

Agree with this strongly, and I think the Jets should try to make a deal with Buffalo for Mittelstadt. He's about 24 years old, and only making around $ 3mil, and is a RFA, who very likely they could resign long term. He would fit in well with the other young guys on the team like Ehlers and Connor etc. Good size as well, at 6'1 and about 190 lbs. Mittelstadt is pacing very close to a 70 point season this year.

He's a center who can score and is a great playmaker. I think he has around 31 points ( or more) this year, (in 42 games) and every year he's getting better. It would cost someone like McGroarty or Lambert, and a 1st round pick, and maybe more. McGroarty is "not proven" but Mittelstadt is, and would give us so much more depth. McGroarty could turn out to be a real star, but could also fizzle out, and disappoint. If I were Chevy, I'd throw a struggling team like Buffalo, a couple real juicy bones to acquire Mittelstadt. What the hell, throw in Appleton as well.

I put Heinola, Barlow and a 1st for Jiricek and Jenner on the main boards. Not enough for both probably?

3 first round picks and especially a sniper like Barlow is pretty decent. I would think we would have to add a roster player to make it work for them.

That franchise is in turmoil. Paid a lot of money to guys who maybe don't care enough. Got some good prospects that don't seem to want to be there. Somethings got to give. They were a consistently good team with Torts as there coach. Fire him and now they are on their 2nd coach since hes been gone and I bet Vincent won't last their.

They seem ripe for the picking

CBJ is such a terribly run organization. and Pascal Vincent - who many wanted here - has just exacerbated how bad they are. i would not be surprised if Fantili shuns them as well if things do not improve. these dumpster fire organizations are the exact ones to take advantage of.

Not the way I remember it. Kupari was sent down for conditioning. Played 1 game and was recalled due to other injury. Heinola was simply sent down. Maybe for a few games. Maybe more. Maybe just until the roster expands or could be for the season. Certainly, he would be the first callup if there is an injury.

Maybe something was aid about conditioning. If so, I missed it. But either way he was not officially sent down for a conditioning stint. Being waiver exempt there was no need to go that route.
Bones said. Obviously he's not going straight to NHL games after that injury.

If we were to pick up Mitts, he's have to be extended because he is close to UFA.
The return the Sabres would want would scare most posters away from the deal.
