Jets are running a full xGoal lower on the PP every hour this season vs last season. Granted... even with last year's production on the PP they'd be no way near the top of the league but they'd atleast be better than dead last. Maybe Wheeler was a net negative in every other facet of the game but he atleast made the PP look respectable.
for all the clowning on PLD... we also don't have a garbage-goal expert like him who was real good around the net on the PP in generating & cashing in on opportunities. his 13.9 PP xGF on a team value 59 PP xGF was one of the highest % shares in the league (7th behind Tavares, B. Tkachuk, M. Tkachuk, JEE, Draisaitl and Kaprizov)

I'm wondering what a line of Toffoli-Lowry- Neideritter could do for this team. UFA next year, 4.5M hit rental and allows us to swing somewhere else.

Meant the 19-20 season, his first ever set of games. 4.5 seasons ago which he played all at the beginning of the year.
Ville looked really good in camp this year. I think we’d have been very happy with him if he didn’t have the freak injury. Hard to say look at nhl games/achievements when we haven’t seen him at that level…at some point he’s gotta play in that role to make that call but he hasn’t yet

He’s good really good vision imo. Maybe he won’t cut it in the nhl. But we can’t just disregard that he looked solid and has a lot of promise

I’m hopeful we get to see him sooner than later

It’s possible we trade a D man in a deal. I mean ideally you find a team to take Nate’s contract. He’s ok but 6 on him and pionk, 1 has to go. I dunno. Interesting times.

I think Schmidt at 6 and Iafallo at 4 are overpaid for the role they play so these are 2 guys I’d be shopping along with the 1st and B prospects, apples Gus/kupari types. Surely an Ottawa would value the defensive game of Iafallo

I like Wheeler so I give him credit for the success of the PP. I do not like PLD so I don't give him credit for his role on that unit. :P Besides he is been pretty ass on the PP in LA.

I don't know if it was Wheeler's contribution or not.

When looking at last year's PP I think we should separate the times when Lauer was away from those when he was there. There was quite a big difference and the stretch when he was away dragged the season numbers down.

I really don't think it is a personnel issue. I think it is coaching.

OK he was unproductive in CBJ on the PP too. Neither have any bearing on what he did, and how he performed on the PP last couple years for us.

I remember a lot of people here wanting us to go after Savard a couple of years ago. What do people here think of him now?

Big, physical RHD under contract for 1 more year at 3.5 mil. Scores a bit, but not much. Could probably be had for a reasonable price.

if we go defense it should be for an actual #2 or a 7-8th depth defensemen incase of injuries, don't really see the point in paying for a guy who is at a similar level as our other defensemen

yeah, if healthy we will probably end up with around 8.5-9 million at the deadline

Where are you getting that additional 1.5-2 mil from?
The CF number of 7 is the expectation for what will accrue by that time with the current roster.

The Jets need some depth...
Yep the we all remember what happened to the Jets when Shief went out against the Hab’s in the playoffs. Chevy can’t allow that to happen again. We need a legit 2nd line centre if we are to be a legitimate contender and this next couple years may be our best chance.

we went from 5.4 to 6.9 when we waived chisholm, we will have to waive one of axel/toni when scheif/gus are both ready to come off ir, then say we add a center at the deadline we can waive who ever remains of axel/toni and gain even more if needed

I've said in the last few weeks, Savard could be a target for the Jets depending how other trades come through or not. Meaning Savard might not be my top 2-3 target but he would potentially be on the list not unlike Monahan as a plan B or plan C type of trade. But it comes down to price for both, neither are stars, neither are game breakers, both are complimentary pieces further down a cup contenders roster.

Main boards Habs fans keep saying for Monahan = 2rd+ or late 1st

Habs board I've seen posts from them in the last couple days saying 1st & A prospect, Jets 1st & Chad L, etc

Habs fans on Savard on the main boards and Habs board all seem to think Savard will get a 1st or 1st+.

IMO a 1st is more then I would want to pay for Savard, I would be hard pressed to be happy with a 2nd+ for Monahan never mind more.

I would be more comfortable with paying a 2nd for Savard and 3rd+ for Monahan, but I doubt Habs would agree which is ok.

What's everyone talking about. The organization has been high on VH, he made the team this year. He had a brutal injury, so he is on a conditioning stint.

He is not officially on a conditioning stint. He is waiver exempt so he was simply sent down.

Honestly I don’t want either player on the jets and wouldn’t waste any assets on either I think we have to pick up a 2C for the long term if possible we need it bad

I get that. He plays with JMo, pushing DeMelo down. Who sits?

Might look good next year though, if we move out Schmidt's 6 mil, or Pionk's, or if DeMelo walks.

I wouldn't pay a 1st for either of those 2. I'm thinking Habs fans are going to be quite disappointed - but GMs get TD fever and overpay every year. I just hope Chevy avoids that.

If we could get Jenner, or Henrique as a 2nd choice, plus Savard without having to part with too much I would be pretty happy. Jenner would be the most expensive piece there.

Agreed

On the main board of TDL targets I listed, Savard & Monahan we're in my top 10 list I would go after, so if we did get either it would be have to be cheap IMO and even then it would be disappointing thats all we got.

Heinola will almost certainly be playing soon. He's conditioning on the moose and playing well. Injuries are inevitable, Dillon is injured now. But I think Bones wants to see VH in Nate's spot.

Ville could play right side, he has the skill.

I've been disappointed in DeMelo this year.
Jets are +23 in goals at 5v5 when DeMelo's on the ice (leading the team along with his usual partner, Morrissey), playing tough minutes. xGF% isn't quite as spectacular - 51.53%, still good for 4th on the team, behind Morrissey and ahead of Dillon and Pionk.

He's the Jets top PK defender in minutes (126:13) and in xGA/60 (7.47) - his PK xGA/60 is 18th best in the NHL for a defenseman.

I just don't see the point of bringing a guy in when our d is performing at a high level unless it's an actual legit #2

I'm not sure our D is performing at all that high a level. We are getting very good team D and goaltending. The D corps is playing adequately.

My question is whether Savard is an upgrade on any of DD, Pionk or Schmidt? IDK myself. Therefore the question.

If the price is right, he doesn't need to be a huge upgrade.

Ya, he's carried by being on a good line on a really good team. He's good overall, but he's maybe not top pair guy.

It was stated he went down for conditioning. The plan is to bring him up for sure. He was with his dad on the father son trip, he made the team effectively.

I don't think Savard is an upgrade on anyone in the lineup.

The Jets split their D pairs into a Defensive defenseman and an Offensive Defenseman. Pionk's probably the worst at straight up defending,

DeMelo - Morrissy
Dillon - Pionk
Samberg - Schmidt

Then we've got Heinola to replace an offensive guy, and Stanley...? to replace a defensive guy. Maybe Savard's an upgrade on Stanley...but barely. Tanev might do the trick - but what's he going to cost?
