Serena is a great athlete, maybe iconic athlete

It is sad to see that this may be her last ride but we've known it for a while the way she's looked

Attended the evening session tonight and saw two good, fun matches at Centre Court. Bianca beat Kasatkina in two tough sets.. Andreescu looked like the female version of a recovering Dominic Thiem--solid backhand but a forehand that still has a ways to go. Diminished power but increased smarts. Lots of long, cleverly designed points, most of which Bianca won.

Sakkari clobbered Stephens in the first set. Sloane played like she had a train to catch. Inexplicably she broke early and suddenly got interested in the second set and held on to win it. Sakkari gave Stephens backhand no rest the entire match, and the pressure finaly paid off in the third set for a well-earned victory.

Also saw Bencic at the Grandstand rip apart a qualifier with ruthless efficiency.

I only saw Bianca's match last night. I love her game, she has so much variety and is always thinking.

Watched Bianca's match last night. Have to be honest; I'd be pissed as her opponent when Bianca took a seat during a tie break. Momentum can certainly be impacted. I am thinking that other players on tour might view her as a bit of a drama queen!

On another note, it looks like Shapo has to go back to the drawing board.
If he does have a sports Psychologist it sure isn't working out. He is his own worst enemy when he lets his emotions get the best of him.
Easy for me to say though sitting on my couch watching him!

Seeing tennis live is just way better than seeing tennis even on a 55 inch screen. Benefits for me, anyway:

1. Easier to suss out strategies, especially if you're preferred seating is behind the baseline.

2. Easier to judge aggression. For instance, Bencic, for one, is way more aggressive looking live than she is on TV.

3. Easier to see which players have subtle hand movements that affect touch. Hsieh and Fog among the more adept.

4. Size. Many players look much bigger and much more powerful in person than they do on a small screen. Sakkari looks like a pipsqueak on a screen. Actually she is a very fit 5' 8".

5. Easier to judge patterns and predictability. There's a reason why Tomas Berdych never won a Grand Slam.

6. No bloody announcers of any kind.

Alcaraz out early.

I'm one of his biggest fans but I think it's a case of "too soon" to expect him to compete for majors right now. He was outclassed quite easily by Sinner in their last two meetings and is out early in this tournament, The greatness potential is there but everybody who thinks that he's a real slam contender might need to pump the brakes for now.

Just started watching. Bencic in straight sets would be my guess over Serena.

Straightforward two set win for Bencic 2 and 4. A match that underscores that it is really time for Serena to retire.

Tight match through two sets and then Bianca pulled away in the third against Cornet for her first win against her in three tries.

Just saw the tail end, but Draper makes a big splash by defeating Tsitsipas in straight sets.

People have been waiting for Draper to break through. Looking like his moment.

Watching this pitched battle between Andreescu and Zheng it's hard to believe these two women are ranked #53 and #51 respectively. Main takeaway: Women's tennis is in pretty good shape.

Guess we'll see just how fit Bianca is. This match could go into a fourth hour.

Zheng is legitimately good and was the only player this year to really test Iga at the french, winning a set and actually being in a position to possibly win.

Big serve, good movement will take you far in the womens game and she's only 19yo.

She is currently +6600 to win the US Open right now which is crazy value.

This is the first time that I've felt that the absence of the Big Three really does lead to a duller tournament

After trading a pair of 7-6 sets, Nick finally runs out of gas against Hurkacz in the third, 6-1.

Halep, showing off her still marvelous defensive skills, beats Gauff in a tough two-setter, 6-4, 7-6. Coco's forehand remains a shot to pick on.

Felix: don't ask.

Pegula, rich girl with a working class game, tends to play down to her opponents, so this was an awful display of tennis. Still she beat an inept Putinseva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Hadaad Maia is a beast. She's listed as 6 feet even, but I demand a recount. She looks like a bigger, stronger, more athletic version of Bencic (and Bencic is pretty athletic to begin with). But slower and more awkward, and there may be the rub.

Bencic lost about three dozen pointss by missing lines by about half an inch. One of those nights. Hadaad Maia, by far the steadier player, wins 6-3 in the third.

Tommy Paul with a hell of a tournament and one of the best matches I’ve ever seen against Carlos, but loses in 3 to Evans. Love his game and hope that he can keep improving, very likeable player and it’s so much better for the game when there are strong American players (as a Canadian). Evans on the other hand continues to be super unlikeable and cringey
