Missed the Shapo match but obviously saw the result. Certainly not putting fear into his opponents anymore. Has he peaked?

Thanks to the usual combination of untimely double faults and woefully misguided forehands, Felix makes wild card Alex Hernandez, ranked #521 in the world, look like a serious contender before FAA wins 6-3, 7-5 in over two hours.

I can't imagine that giving a tennis player an exemption or changing the countries policies just for him would go over well.

Tbh I'm surprised Novak didn't get some random doctor in Serbia to just give him a vaccine certificate. I'll give him credit for that, he could easily do that, don't agree with his views on this but at least honest about it.
I think I would sign the petition. If locals like Sandgren can play, why not Nole? I don't think many people actually would give a damn one way or the other at this point.

If they allow Djokovic to play they may as well remove all vaccine requirements. It's not fair to allow one rich person a benefit while people who are also anti-vaxx can't visit their families and don't have the popularity he has.

I'm sympathetic with your point. My only caveat would be if the US Open is allowing American nationals like anti-vaxxer Sandgren in the draw, which currently they are, why discriminate against non-nationals?

Almost certainly. I would think his chances of returning to the Top Ten are remote.

Djokovic officially withdrew from Montreal due to his unvaccinated status.

Felix into the SF in Los Cabos. Beat Johnson in straight sets and didn't face a break point.

He'll face Norrie who Felix is 4-0 against. So Norrie may be due for a win

Felix first-served like a demon last night. Johnson played well, too. It was a good match.

Rogers Cup qualifying opens tomorrow in Montreal and Toronto.

Lots of Canadians in both draws. Don't give many much chance of qualifying but maybe we'll get a surprise or two.

Felix loses in three to Norrie. Same story, never changes for very long. Felix's inability to keep the ball in play causes him to give up way more free points than his opponent allows. I'm doubting this ever gets fixed.

Mikael Ymer really picked up something after he compared himself to Zlatan. Interesting to see him go up against Kyrgios in the semi.

Ymer's a surprise to me. He's athletic and quick and has an attractive game to watch, but he's not a great server, not a great returner, not a good volleyet, not really that elite in any category. He is one of those guys who usually hover around 100 in the rankings. But he's having the week of his life right now, so maybe he is moving up a level.

Yeah this is just a fluke that even mediocre guys can have once in a lifetime. This isn’t a new level we are seeing. As you say he has no weapons at all and that won’t work on Kyrgios. He will have to hope for a typical Nick-meltdown.

The Tennis Podcast on the Norrie/FAA three set match last night: "A result, scoreline and match in general that rather felt in keeping with their careers-to-date." How sadly true.

The difference is that Novak can't enter the US

Medvedev gets his hard court season off to a fine start in Los Cabos with a 7-5, 6-love win over Norrie.

Nishiola upsets Rublev in straight sets to get to the final against Kyrgios in Washington. Don't know how Nishiola does it, but good for him.

Easy win for Nick. He won the toss and surprisingly chose to receive. Smart move as he broke serve in the first game of each set and just sailed from there.

Denis' match is going to continue tomorrow because of the rain. Leylah is in the 3rd set against Storm Sanders in a really entertaining match. It's almost 12 and they're at 2-1 on the third and Venus is supposed to play tight after.

Fernandez wins in three tough sets. Leylah was curiously passive on return of serve all night, seemingly hitting 95% of returns as well as plus ones on the offensive side right down the middle. It almost cost her an embarrassing loss. But she was clutch when she most needed to be.

Never a fan but she's obviously one of the greats on the court.

At least she can retire on her own terms.

She did win a match last night in Toronto.

Doubtful she'll win the US Open but she'll get a sendoff from her fans.
