I feel dumber for reading just this page of the thread. I don't think I can even go back and read the previous 15 pages of drivel.
It's funny, you saw exactly what frustrates people with Marner and what excites them in the same game.Hmm... People had quite a bit to say over the last few days... Oddly quiet in here after a great game where he factored heavily into every goal scored, with a goal and 2 primary assists.

I mean...the guy is the 2nd or 3rd highest paid winger in hockey, this is what those guys do.Hmm... People had quite a bit to say over the last few days... Oddly quiet in here after a great game where he factored heavily into every goal scored, with a goal and 2 primary assists.

Anyway, Leaf fans had every right to criticize Marner after his Friday performance. He wasn't good. It's funny commenting now after he has a good game when you're no where to be found defending him during his bad ones. Let's just hope he keeps this recent performance going and go from there.
A player like Kucherov does do this stuff, though not as "routinely" as you think, and unlike Marner, it took until his prime, and unlike Marner, he gets praised and appreciated for being able to do this stuff, and unlike Marner, he doesn't get absolutely dumped on for every perceived "mistake" he ever makes.Do you think Panarin, Kucherov or Kane don't routinely do this kind of stuff?

By the time Marners contract is done, it is quite possible he overtakes George Armstrong as the highest point winger the leafs have EVER had on their team. This would put him in the top 5 players of all time on the team. It is amazing people think he is easily replaceable.A player like Kucherov does do this stuff, though not as "routinely" as you think, and unlike Marner, it took until his prime, and unlike Marner, he gets praised and appreciated for being able to do this stuff, and unlike Marner, he doesn't get absolutely dumped on for every perceived "mistake" he ever makes.
Most big criticisms are not really based anything concrete. He has flaws as all players do but arguments that he should have been paid 8 to 8.5 million on an 8 year deal dont really add a lot. What is clear is that the team wins when he plays well and often lose when he doesnt. This is a real correlation vs causation.Who of the hockey fans in Tampa are going to bitch about a player on a team friendly deal that helped carry their team to a SC and might help them repeat? IMO Mitch did himself no favours with his contract negotiations so he is going to hear it from fustrated Leaf fans when he and the team lay an egg. Keep playing like he did last night and most of the Marner haters won't have a platform to stand on. Same is true for Willie, JT and Matty but to a lesser degree.
Yup. There is a reason for that.2nd in league for forwards ice time. Keefe is leaning hard.
While we all obviously want a Cup, sometimes I think people miss out on the fact we have 3 guys on the roster who could surpass many all time club records, if here a while. Frustrating as it can be at times, at least enjoy that.By the time Marners contract is done, it is quite possible he overtakes George Armstrong as the highest point winger the leafs have EVER had on their team. I would say more than 3. The lines need to find some stability to maximize chemistry. Potential is huge because these boys are on the beginning edges of their prime. While we all obviously want a Cup, sometimes I think people miss out on the fact we have 3 guys on the roster who could surpass many all time club records, if here a while. Sure is a good thing they didn't trade Kucherov when he was putting up point paces in the 60s at the same point in development that Marner's been putting up 90s.Who of the hockey fans in Tampa are going to bitch about a player on a team friendly deal that helped carry their team to a SC and might help them repeat?
Unfortunately, not having a platform to stand on has never stopped it before. One would think seeing a player that is stylistically similar to Marner "help carry their team to a Cup" would help people appreciate him a bit more, but unfortunately, for some, nothing he could ever do would be enough.Keep playing like he did last night and most of the Marner haters won't have a platform to stand on.
He will probably do it in 2/3 the number of games played as well . He already cracked the all time top 10 for single season points and top 5 for single season assists but who needs him eh ?Marner just surpassed JVR for total career points as a leaf. With some luck this year, he will push past 13 more leaf alumni and will pass Kadri.
Making 10 mil and having that kind of impact playing with Matthews is unacceptable
And if you’re looking for things to slag on a guy, your chances improve when he’s on the ice all the time.Yup. There is a reason for that.
Pure gold.Money Mitch still looking like himself from last year.
He apparently worked on his shot this off season but I haven't seen any improvement except for that one goal in a scrimmage.
Why did this man have to be so greedy?
