True, but were the games when Toffoli/Pearson/Vey were all up here? Who do you think they'd be looking at? What are CBJs team/organizational needs?

I don't think any combination of Monarchs prospects necessarily leads to Gaborik, though I guess he is their most disposable asset and DL has been interested before. I agree that he may be most likely, but I wouldn't be shocked if we're looking at Umberger (also DLs style--has term, gritty, etc.).

A name I thought of, with zero base, rumors, or anything behind it, is Forbort. Columbus lacks a top D prospect with size and their D is average sized at best. Forbort could be pretty appealing to them.

What I can tell you with high level of confidence is Vey will not go the other way. No chance.

Can we fit Gaborik under cap? He's always been listed as RW but I assume switching sides won't be much of an issue because he's a LH shot.

Williams the likely guy going other way for cap reasons, as Mayor stated.

Umberger is pretty well entrenched in Columbus. He went to school there, he has always wanted to be there, his wife is from there, he is a big part of the club off the ice and still a pretty good player on it.

And Columbus is still in playoff contention and much like the Islanders last year, just getting in would be huge for hockey in the market.

Hate to see Williams go because he was so important to getting the Kings to this level, but you can really see his play is starting to fall off, if he still has decent value, now is the time to unload him.

Ahh right, forgot all about that part. Thanks! gaborik does make more sense, then.

Yes, let me expand on what Herby said.

I'm a logical guy. I like to think things through very logically and see what makes SENSE.

First, you look at the guys Dean would want. To me, I identified three right away: Gaborik, Umberger, Foligno. MAYBE Dubinsky but not as much.

Umberger and Foligno both are helping a team win right now. Why break up the locker room and a winning formula by trading one? Neither will move.

Gaborik is a UFA to be, playing in a market he might not want to stay in, was injured and the team still won without him. If you can trade someone likely to leave anyway, while not disrupting the winning you were able to get without him, and pick up some assets, why not do it?

In return, you eat some of his cap for this year, pick up a veteran locked in for next year as well in Williams, and can get a good prospect to help for the future.

Again, you're not flying out your AGM for three games for nothing. Only one other team had theirs in Manch this year, it was once, and at some point after it, the Kings traded with that team. That last part may have just been a coincidence but still. Logically, Gaborik to LA is the move to watch.

What is comes down to is, the best managers in every sport have no emotional connection and trade and release players based on their current and future expectations, not what they did for you 2-3 years ago. This is why the New England Patriots win every year (yes even when Brady was injured), they choose not to bring back Wes Welker by not offering him a bloated contract and they return to the AFC title game. And sure enough it sure looks like Welker is on the downside and NE made the right move not signing him to a multi year contract. And there have been plenty of other players you could mention over the years.

You appreciate what certain players did in 2012, but it can't be a factor in building your team in 2014, 2016, 2018 or in some cases with the Kings 2020 and beyond.

If the Kings make this trade they believe Gaborik could really take off with Kopitar, and even if he flops the Kings can still go ahead with Carter and Toffoli at RW for the foreseeable future and use Gaborik's cap space to bring in a lw this summer.

If Toffoli is the long-term replacement for Williams, then I guess I'm OK with this....

As someone who emphatically stated Toffoli would never make the NHL, I can tell you he'll be better than JW at his peak. And that's saying a lot as JW in his prime was very good.

Let's keep in mind, while Mayor does have a good track record, he is a blogger. And like most, if not all bloggers, they are sometimes used as puppets to spread misinformation. I'm sure there's some truth in Mayor's latest write up, but let's not be so naive to think that there aren't some BS in there as well. Not deliberately of course, but the Mayor is basically regurgitating information/misinformation that is being fed to him right?

Gaborik is a UFA to be. Go look at what Jagr and Iginla cost teams. Keep dreaming of a prospect like Toffoli and a first because that isn't happening.

I guess you missed this part? It doesn't make sense for us to trade him for less. We don't HAVE to move him especially in a playoff run.
