And that's why.
Not all our D are making the best, fast, first pass. That's why our offensive players are struggling. They are sailing late into the offensive zone after the opponents D has had a chance to set up their structure and defensive layers. We are skating and shooting into the strength of the opponents D from an attack that is weakened by poor transition.
A big part of Sutters structure and strategy is based upon a quick pass north south out of the D zone. The right pass. We aren't getting that as often this year because Mitchell and Greene are injured, Mitchell isn't as quick as he was, and Scuderi isn't here. So we're playing younger D. They make learning mistakes and they aren't as quick or correct with decisions on the fly.
Richards doesn't seem like he could handle a pass from the defense lately. Brown has been lost, especially on the road, all year. Even the Olympic team didn't bring too much out of him. I'm not sure if the first pass is what has been wrong with those two.
But it doesn't help that Voynov and Muzzin have struggled.
