And that's why.

Not all our D are making the best, fast, first pass. That's why our offensive players are struggling. They are sailing late into the offensive zone after the opponents D has had a chance to set up their structure and defensive layers. We are skating and shooting into the strength of the opponents D from an attack that is weakened by poor transition.

A big part of Sutters structure and strategy is based upon a quick pass north south out of the D zone. The right pass. We aren't getting that as often this year because Mitchell and Greene are injured, Mitchell isn't as quick as he was, and Scuderi isn't here. So we're playing younger D. They make learning mistakes and they aren't as quick or correct with decisions on the fly.

Richards doesn't seem like he could handle a pass from the defense lately. Brown has been lost, especially on the road, all year. Even the Olympic team didn't bring too much out of him. I'm not sure if the first pass is what has been wrong with those two.

But it doesn't help that Voynov and Muzzin have struggled.

Not really. Greene shoots R and Regehr shoots L. If anything, Mitchell may be the one out, although, I'd like to see him back as well.

Why? These three defensemen and their poor first pass is the primary reason for the Kings' lack of offense. I would like to see Regehr and Mitchell both gone and replaced with better puck movers.

Greene I still like on the PK, if healthy.

WE HAVE NEWSSSSSS!

Buffalo, Ottawa, and Columbus scouts in Manch tonight. Two for Columbus. Yet another legendary last name, as @BlakeGeoffrion here for CBJ

This is the second time the Blue Jackets have had two scouts here. They've also sent their assistant GM.

What player(s) on the Manchester roster are all these teams scouting..Forbort? Arent the BJ's stocked on D already?

Indeed. It's the main reason for our struggles along with piss poor seasons from Brown and Voynov to name a few.

The time of the stay at home d-men who skate like crap is over.

So, you're saying that the difference between our championship season, and our current season is Scuds, and his exemplary passing skills?

Mitchell and Scuderi's mobility was fine back in 2012, but there is such a dropoff between the Mitchell the Kings have today and Regehr from then it's really making a difference. I think you need at least one big, physical defenseman to clear the front of the net on the PK, but it helps if that guy can skate as well.

If you can't see the difference in Mitchell and Greene then and now, you should really go back and watch the 2012 playoffs over again. Scuderi of 2012 >>>>>>>>>> Regehr of 2014. I don't want all three of the shutdown defensemen that are currently on the roster back next season. The reasons are quite obvious.

Now you come to Voynov, who has been playing like crap this season. The Kings can't give him protected minutes anymore, he needs to step up and be the man on the 2nd pairing.

There are some interesting names there for Columbus when you look into it.

But I don't think they are letting anything of significance go unless it's overpayment. Too much of a young core being established there with Jenner, DMac, Calvert, Murray, Johansen and Atkinson to shake it up.

Dubinsky and Umberger would be the only two realistic options I could see them parting with up front. Duby especially since you look at their prospects and Wennberg is playing phenomenal in the SHL and Dano still has a ton of promise despite a bad year. Bjorkstrand has also been fantastic.

That still takes a decent return if you want either one of those guys.

Yes please.

Pretty sure the BJ's aren't gonna be sellers...so all this may seem for not...

Very true. Though their GM is like DL in that if a trade is there that'll improve the team long-term, he'll do it.

Plus, he hasn't done much housecleaning since his takeover, so who knows what he has up his sleeve.

Umberger? No

Kings don't need a 32 year old 20 goal center making 4.6 mill a year. Kings can't commit this much money to all these centers and still not have one who is a good 2nd line center in 2014.

Unless Columbus is willing to move Foligno or Tyutin or it's something much smaller I don't see a trade here

I was under the impression he was a LWer and he's certainly a better fit on the top lines than some of our other options (and definitely plays the Kings 'style'). You're not going to find another top-6 LW option for much less than that pricetag. That being said, you're probably right.

I guess your right, Umberger has been playing the left wing.

I just don't know, if we are trading for someone this year I'd rather be a rental, and then hopefully Dean can fix this massive hole this summer.

Umberger has another three years left after this one and he is being paid for what he was three years ago, and I think we already have enough guys on this team being paid for what they were three years ago rather than for what they are now.

I would pass. We could use that $4.6 mill towards a better left wing this summer.

Tyutin is out for two weeks, maybe a Gabby for Muzzin trade is in order
