Low risk, high reward? Gaborik is an injuryprone, soft, perennial LOSER. If Lombardi really makes an awful mistake and trades Gaborik, he should be fired. Darryl Sutter and lazy bum like Gaborik, it's really not a match made in heaven.

He is a higly skilled player who is an UFA at the end of the season That is the definition of low risk, high reward.

Not saying I am hoping they acquire him, but with the awful Brown and Richards contracts that run until forever, DL needs to be careful of what kind of salaries he picks up.

But I am still in the camp of doing nothing at the deadline and fixing this roster over the summer, I don't want to trade significant assets for anyone, but if Gaborik could be had for a draft pick I don't see what the risk in it is, if he fizzles out he leaves this summer.

i agree with you. ive already said it and i stick with my earlier comments. this year was from the start and continues to be a write off. they make a splash and take care of business as is. don't mortgage the future, for this season by trying to make something out of this mess. they had little to no room to do anything due to the reduced cap. the team has gone in the sh*tter and there is no point to try salvage it by trading picks/prospects or a roster player for a rental.

this summer the team needs to reboot and take stock of its assets.

Gaborik has always played RW but LW shouldnt be much of an adjustment

once again the easy, "its easy to switch sides" statement. let's move some more assets for another player that truly doesn't fill the LW issues.

pass

Once every 3 years then.

Gaborik is made of glass. perhaps Gaborik in Solvak means just that - glass

The "impact of Skuds lose" has been greatly overstated on these boards.

The Kings are losing because of offense not defense. And if I have to read about Skuds puck moving skills again I might pass out from the pain in my sides....

his loss has been significant, because it has caused a downgrade across all three pairings. his skill level wasn't elite, but it was and is better than 2014 Mitchell and it's better than 2013 and 2014 Regehr.

the only problem i had with Scuds last year was due to his overuse. his TOI was to high due to the Greene and Mitchell injuries, which lead to decline in play. when they got his TOI back in line he played better down the stretch.

his puck moving skills and O zone possession were and are better then RR and Greene, this is why people continue to sing his praise. he rarely made a slow and 2nd guess decision clearing the puck, passing on the breakout, or holding the puck at the blueline. this meant the forwards knew what and where to go. there is far too much indecision on the LA blue line currently. we all know this, the Kings know it and unfortunately so do the opponents.

LA's offensive woes have more to do with the poor to moderate strength of its transition game. this has everything to do with the backend D getting better.

only on HFBoards do people seriously refer to Scuderi as a 'puck moving defenseman':laugh:

Scuderi alone would not solve the offensive or defensive woes of the Kings. its a much bigger problem than one or two people not playing well
i doubt Dean does anything until just before the deadline, if at all

I'd take a flyer on Gaborik if it wasn't an outrageous price. I know he's super injury prone but he's scored 40 goals 3 times, plus 4 30 goal seasons. He may not play Sutter style, but remember the guy did play for Jacques Lemaire for a few years.

Given that he's at the end of his contract, hasn't had a lot of playoff opportunities, and the fact that he can flat out score, I think we'd get his best hockey for the end stretch + playoffs.

Everyone knows he's a great player, but right now his career is defined as a great oft-injured goal scorer who's never played for a true contender. I don't think he'll have any problem buying into a system for a few months similar to the one he broke into the league in if it means his best chance at winning a championship.

Furthermore, we would have the space to keep him around next season if it does all work out.

Personally I don't want anything to happen at the deadline unless it's a retool on the fly focusing on defense. So either stay the course with what we've got and fix it in the offseason or hit a few trades to make the d more mobile/better passers. Selling off assets for a temporary fix in likely one sided deals at the deadline does not sit well with me unless of course we can nab guys on the cheap and will be able to re sign them.

I wouldn't mind Gaborik if he wasn't injured all the time, the guy has serious talent.

That being said I wouldn't want to give up the assets to trade for him, maybe test the waters in free agency.

Lombardi hasn't drastically changed a team during the season in a while. I figure he does one trade again, and you can't fill every hole on a roster.

Say we give up a decent prospect+pick for Gaborik with retained salary this is what our roster looks like.

King-Kopitar-Gaborik
Toffoli-Richards-Carter
Brown-Stoll-Williams
Clifford-Lewis/Vey-Nolan/Pearson

That depth though.

If he really did ask for a trade, I wonder how much it would cost to get St. Louis away from Tampa Bay. Probably more than we are comfortable with, but he'd be an ideal fit on just about any of the top 3 lines.

Marty would be awesome but he is a RW and would cost a fortune.

Not trading Kopitar for him. Tampa wouldn't take Richards for him. Can't trade Carter. So start with Williams, and add from there.

75 percent of the posts in this thread stem from McKenzie's tweet that the Kings and Oilers were discussing a Gagner deal.

Gaborik was an appealing name when he was putting up 30+ goals and respectable playoff numbers, but that was years ago. He's 32 now, he's missed a majority of the season, and he's going to be quite rusty and dinged up coming into a hard hitting Western Conference if he came to the West. I don't think his body would withstand the punishment.
