When I heard a Gaborik rumor a few months ago, I thought it was interesting. On paper, Gaborik would be just what this team needs, a skillful, high scoring forward. although he's a RW normally, he is left handed, so he might be able to fit into LW well. The problem is that he has such a history with injury that its tough to justify trading for him. Making a run for him in free agency I think would be a good idea, as I think he is an excellent asset. But to give up what the Jackets probably want for him, ie, draft pick and solid prospect, would be iffy depending upon the prospect. It would be risky, but i'd, and this is a big maybe, give up Pearson for him if DL thought we had no chance of picking him up in Free Agency (And based upon his skill set and reputation, compared to our cap space, we might not). About injury, I would like to think that its less he's made of glass and more that he has had a string of bad luck, but I can't be to sure. I would have to look deeper into his injury history.

edit: he's been injured a ton. very risky asset.

Gaborik was an appealing name when he was putting up 30+ goals and respectable playoff numbers, but that was years ago. He's 32 now, he's missed a majority of the season, and he's going to be quite rusty and dinged up coming into a hard hitting Western Conference if he came to the West. I don't think his body would withstand the punishment.

Probably true. Though we know DL was high on him enough that Rangers only beat us out on term. So it wouldn't be shocking as I doubt CBJ keeps him around.

I will say on the positives that he has a scoring touch and speed, and he's proved that he was be productive in maybe the most defensive system of all time, but yeah, he was nick'ed Glassorik for a reason. Wonder if DL is going to try to Frankenstein/JustinWilliams him, though.

I would also not be surprised to see the yearly Hemsky rumors pick up again, though, and I'd be happy with him for creativity's sake at this point.

I want Froloaf back, I kinda miss the loafer. I miss his dominant puck possession down low , and weak sauce wrap around.

Injury prone in the Western Conference and on the Kings ?

Not a good idea.

Justin Williams and Willie Mitchell worked out pretty well. Jeff Carter was also coming off a second shoulder injury when Dean acquired him. Lombardi's not afraid to go after a guy with a long injury list.

Your point still holds true but I thought Carter had issues with his foot in Columbus at the time he was picked up?
You can also add Gagne to the names DL brings in that are injury prone. However hew did not work out and was a signing so it did not cost anything.

They were risks. Gaborik is practically a guarantee.

Never tell me the odds.

rofl!

That reminds me...need to put together my trade deadline and/or playoffs bingo/drinking game.

I might be too late on the trade deadline one (can maybe do this weekend), but the playoffs one I can get on in the next couple of weeks.

Anyway, I still see DL going for either a smaller name (like Hemsky) or a longer-term player like Umberger. Without commenting on whether I like it or not, that's just his style.

Not every trade has to be some core defining long term move. Sometimes you just roll the dice.

Gaborik is what he is. Top level talent destroyed by injuries and a UFA. So long as the BJ don't ask for the sun/moon/stars if it's cheap what's the harm?

I'm not seeing a whole lot of young, tough, physical. high scoring, cheap, wingers. Hell Ryan C is going to get some insane 7 year 6+ million deal. That for a guy who has never had 30 goals in a season. You know someone is going to give him the money.

We should just stop thinking of the stars and be a bit more realistic.

Well, we got a week and it is clear that we aren't standing pat. I predict we end up with Hemsky and Amac.

Do the GMs know it's over? Lol.

"Hello?"
"Dean, this is KingKopitar."
"Who?"
"Kiiing Kooopitar, mother****er!"
"Excuse me?"
"That Fraser move was ok, but I'm gonna need something else. My Twitter feed has no King related trade news. I don't like that and you ne..."

*infraction*

Plot twist, DL is a mod on here. Double plot twist, he has KK11's avatar stashed in Rob's desk!

Hemsky? An oft-injured RW? I don't see why the Kings would want him.

Creative, relatively cheap. I don't necessarily really like it but I can see why. No long term commitment so if he goes down with a hangnail, oh well.

Andrew MacDonald scares me as an acquisition because if Isles fans are talking about how crappy his defense is with increased minutes, what the heck is going to happen here where we've been spoiled with defense?

Haha thats exactly how it goes. Im actually surprised no moves have been done from any teams yet.

and when you try to send a PM back saying "YO What the **** *****" and then it says PM box full  I swear DL must be a mod here though.
