When I heard a Gaborik rumor a few months ago, I thought it was interesting. On paper, Gaborik would be just what this team needs, a skillful, high scoring forward. although he's a RW normally, he is left handed, so he might be able to fit into LW well. The problem is that he has such a history with injury that its tough to justify trading for him. Making a run for him in free agency I think would be a good idea, as I think he is an excellent asset. But to give up what the Jackets probably want for him, ie, draft pick and solid prospect, would be iffy depending upon the prospect. It would be risky, but i'd, and this is a big maybe, give up Pearson for him if DL thought we had no chance of picking him up in Free Agency (And based upon his skill set and reputation, compared to our cap space, we might not). About injury, I would like to think that its less he's made of glass and more that he has had a string of bad luck, but I can't be to sure. I would have to look deeper into his injury history.
edit: he's been injured a ton. very risky asset.
