Voracek's a winger. For certain the center he was talking about was Gagner, who was projected to be a top 5 pick.

Really tells you all you need to know in regards to DL's opinions of Gagner...wasn't willing to "reach" 1-2 spots for Sam. Tried to trade down and instead was "forced" to take a different option.

Also can people get over Erhoff....honestly....look at his age and look at how many years he has left...if you thought Richards was bad news....

Not really. Greene shoots R and Regehr shoots L. If anything, Mitchell may be the one out, although, I'd like to see him back as well.

One of Greene, Regehr, and Mitchell need to go next year. None can skate with Doughty, and two of them together are just too slow

Well, I for one think that we put too much emphasis on finding the ideal partner for Doughty. Does it really matter whether some of our dmen are slow or that Muzzin is so inconsistent when partnered with Doughty? If the end result is that we're one of the best team on defense, why put so much focus there?

Having said that, I thought Mitchell did well in his last few games with Doughty, and I hope Sutter keeps WM with DD.

That may be so but how much does either player's shot matter in their playstyle? And keep in mind if Greene is re-signed, he could be with LA for years. Regher on the other hand should be retired.

I don't compare Mitchell to those guys, he has a little offensive ability.

Because hockey is fundamentally a counter punch game. The team with the better and most consistent defensive players will win more games over time. Great defense does two important things: stops attacks before the first shot and regains control of the puck; and, makes a first pass that pulls the other team out of its defensive structure. Rookies are aren't as good at this because of the reads and short reaction time required - only experience teaches that unless you're a Doughty-like prodigy.

This, especially that D to F pass, is the reason the Kings offense is ineffective this year. We've got three youngsters,
basically, on D. It's not so much our lines can't attack. It's that the lines are not getting the puck on pace at the better moments during a transition from defense to offense. That pulls the forwards farther apart and forces them to skate at slower pace because they are waiting to see what's happening with the pass.... while the defensive player decides on a play.

If you wonder how bad our transition game is from our defense, just remember that we barely have had any counter attacks.

You make it sound like we got 3 rookies playing on defense. The 3 youngsters you are referring to played with the kings last year, so, I don't see your point.

Not so much in their play style, but as to Sutter wanting to go L/R pairing on defense it would matter.

Young D with less than three seasons are rookies in a development sense.

And that's why.

Not all our D are making the best, fast, first pass. That's why our offensive players are struggling. They are sailing late into the offensive zone after the opponents D has had a chance to set up their structure and defensive layers. We are skating and shooting into the strength of the opponents D from an attack that is weakened by poor transition.

A big part of Sutters structure and strategy is based upon a quick pass north south out of the D zone. The right pass. We aren't getting that as often this year because Mitchell and Greene are injured, Mitchell isn't as quick as he was, and Scuderi isn't here. So we're playing younger D. They make learning mistakes and they aren't as quick or correct with decisions on the fly.

Eh, Martinez had spent parts of three seasons in the minors prior to securing a full time spot on the blueline. Maybe he was inexperienced but he didn't perform like a rookie when paired with Greene on the third pairing.

He didn't scramble around the ice frantically and making as many forced or unforced errors as Muzzin does. Never did I get that feeling of discomfort with Martinez as I do when I see #6 on the ice.

WE HAVE NEWSSSSSS!

Andy ‏@AndyTonge1 9m
Buffalo, Ottawa, and Columbus scouts in Manch tonight. Two for Columbus. Yet another legendary last name, as @BlakeGeoffrion here for CBJ

This is the second time the Blue Jackets have had two scouts here. They've also sent their assistant GM.

We are getting JMfJ back!!! :sarcasm:

I don't see much in cbj that I would want outside of Dubinsky ( which really isn't a need for us).

Gaborik is hurt. Maybe one of the Russians?

Oh boy how exciting going...

Watch DL trade for a 3000th round pick.

We won the cup with 2 rookies on defense, plus Doughty who was in his 4th year, so, I don't see your point.

The rookies were protected by the experienced guys who were playing beside them. Mitchell and Greene were in much better form. And Scuds was key. Sutter controlled their minutes and situations.

You've seen what happens to inexperienced D this season now that they have to play regular all-situation minutes and Mitchell is at about 60% of what he was in 2012, Greene is playing at 80% of his game, and Scuderi isn't even here. Young D get exposed.

I still miss scuds

There are some interesting names there for Columbus when you look into it.

But I don't think they are letting anything of significance go unless it's overpayment. Too much of a young core being established there with Jenner, DMac, Calvert, Murray, Johansen and Atkinson to shake it up.

Dubinsky and Umberger would be the only two realistic options I could see them parting with up front. Duby especially since you look at their prospects and Wennberg is playing phenomenal in the SHL and Dano still has a ton of promise despite a bad year. Bjorkstrand has also been fantastic.

That still takes a decent return if you want either one of those guys.

I think Dubinksy and Richards rivalry may hinder that deal a bit
