From what I understand Richards is not known for being a workout warrior. I think a lot of what he has accomplished to date has been done on guts and guile. He may have to put in more work in the off season if he wants to maintain the level of play we are used to seeing from him for the rest of his career.

Seems like he likes to fish more than train in the offseason. Fishing does not make you better at hockey. Agree on the age/training argument-that catches up to you eventually just like it will to Doughty. You can't eat boxed Mac N Cheese for dinner and expect to stay in great shape. Anybody over 30 knows what I'm talking about.

A struggling Richards is still a 50 point player on the worst offensive, best defensive team in the league. He is also one of the only forwards to show up for us during the playoffs last year. He's there when it matters.

Nobody ever mentions that. When Brown and Kopitar evaporated, Richards was awesome until he got his bell rung against Chicago.

Having lost 40 lbs 2 years ago (went from 230 to 190 and i'm 33 years old, 6ft tall), I can tell you that I have a great appreciation for what older pro athletes are able to do. I've been working hard to get another 5-10 lbs off and I think unless I adhere to an uber strict diet, i've leveled off with fat loss. I started doing crossfit but I'm not interested in doing the paleo thing.

I guess if I made a million dollars a year working out, I'd probably find a way to eat better. But it does take a lot of discipline.

No crossfitter that has a clue eats paleo. Crossfit is performance first. Nobody who is interested in performance and having a proper testosterone level wants to eat like that. I ate ego waffles and a protein shake for dinner and I'm comfortably sitting at 6' 206 6.2% body fat. You will lose that 10 pounds. Just put in the work and eat 80% clean my friend. Good luck buddy.

I know it's premature, but if Toffoli continues to play well as our LW, what's our greatest need? A linemate for Doughty? A true legit LW? New coach? :sarcasm:

Legit top pairing for Doughty would be nice, but the Kings don't have the assets to bring in a Legit top pairing guy. Going to be hard to do significantly better then Mitchell/Muzzin with what the Kings have for trade.

LW? Adding more talent couldn't hurt.

Ted Nolan would be great. I was joking about this a while ago, but that play to get Latvia's goal against Canada was great! I wouldn't mind a coach that gets his players working hard and doing what it takes to put goals up. Even thinking out side of the box.

Center could be an option. Maybe Vey works out. Kopi/Richards/Stoll/Lewis Vs Kopi/Richards/Gagner/Stoll could make a big difference. Doesn't have to be Gagner, just used as an example. Cap needs to be worked around of course.

I really think we need to shore up the D, more questions back there then up front. scoring is going to work itself out, we need to be steady on the back end down the stretch, look what Doughty has been able to do when he does not have to do to much.

In my dream world we would pick up a D-man that would not only be paired with doughty but help the PP.

Pipe dream would be Gio, I think Lubo would be an upgrade to what we have, Kulikov could be worthwhile.
Will likely have to wait till the offseason for bigger names.

Gio is who i really like the cool part about the whole thing is that DL is not afraid to go after big key pieces (Carter and Richards) who would of thought. I think he sees the D as a big issue and thats were the big move will be made, D wins games especially in our house. So I would not call that a pipe dream, now Weber that is my pipe dream. DL has been able to see how those 2 play together. Guess all Im saying is watch out.... could be big

ya no chance we get a sniff at Weber. I still doubt they even move him ever.
The thing with Gio is I could see Calgary wanted to hold on a have him be part for the rebuild. Everything seems to indicate he is ok sticking through the rebuild too. that is why I think it is a pipedream. Hell I think we would have a better shot getting JMFJ back (and I would be ok with him too).

For Gio I would give a lot of picks/prospects. Hell I would even give King.

If I had to choose, it would be Ehrroff he's a great Passer and is really good on PP. He can hang with Doughty too.

Glad to hear that you are doing Crossfit. I've been doing it for a couple years and love it. I'm going to be 36 in a couple of months and i'm in just as good of shape as I was when I was in my late teens. When you get older, your muscles lose elasticity and the recovery times are longer, but you can still attain very high levels of fitness.

I don't think you need to adhere to strict paleo to get the results you want, but you do have to eat a lot smarter and prepare a lot more of your meals. My fiancee and I shop more at Sprouts/Trader's now and have a pretty regimented diet, but it's not as bad as you think. It just takes a mental change/commitment to make it happen. Richards could do it to, but you need to keep the motivation required to do it.

Cross fit seems really beneficial, and risky too if not done right.

John Tavares is done for the season, which is just a brutal blow to the Isles org. I anticipate them getting rid of a number of contracts now that their season is unofficially over with the loss of Tavares.
