I really like what New Jersey is doing. I know NJ is set on centers with Hischier and Hughes, what about Miller as a winger, and an option at center if someone is out (like he has been with Vancouver)
Maybe something revolving around Mercer? Mercer + Severson e.g.
New Jersey seems like a good trading partner from a Canucks POV. We have some wingers that we would trade in order to solidify our D.
With that said, you wouldn't bring JT Miller in to be a winger behind Hichier/Hughes. At this stage, he is a far better all around C than either. I don't think JT Miller is the right target, as you either waste some of Millers skill, or impact the young guys development. Obvioulsy at some point NC/JH will likely surpass JTM as they improve and he gets older, but that is not the case yet.
If you are looking on the wing:
-Garland is a real good top 6 option, he would bring a high cost though. He is a very good top 6 on a very good contract. Was our best 5vs5 player by a long shot. If he learns to finish better, he will be scary, creates a ton of chances.
-Hoglander is young and has upside, 1 good season, one down season so far. Not sure where his career goes from here, but is a good gamble if a 2nd line opportunity was there. Both of those guys are smaller more offense oriented. Has another ELC year left.
-Pearson is a good middle six add (3rd line, but can play up). Very vanilla, but good in all aspects. He is a bit overpaid, so the cost to get him is pretty low. Not a guy you really notice too much until you have to replace him. Always on the ice at the end of games.
