No. You can stop wondering.

Perhaps at the deadline when the exorbitant ask has decreased significantly.

For Pesce? You’re insane.
Yes because GMs are known for their restraint leading up to the TDL

I don't think there's a Carolina deal that works but to suggest GMs are not paying exorbitant fees at the TDL is vrazy

😆
Most Canuck fans see him as an 85 point player which he’s been the last 3 years.
Talk about hyperbole!
read through the miller threads and count the vancouver fans, who call miller an 85pt player. then do the same exercise for the the ones, who call him 100/99pt player.

i am pretty sure you need to twist word most.

Im sure this has been asked already...but what exactly is the Canucks looking to get back in a JT Miller trade again?

Defense mainly?

Nobody really knows. I think management wants young, contributing NHL'ers, but teams aren't obviously giving those up. Right defense and center are the team's biggest needs though.

I really like what New Jersey is doing. I know NJ is set on centers with Hischier and Hughes, what about Miller as a winger, and an option at center if someone is out (like he has been with Vancouver)

Maybe something revolving around Mercer? Mercer + Severson e.g.

New Jersey seems like a good trading partner from a Canucks POV. We have some wingers that we would trade in order to solidify our D.

With that said, you wouldn't bring JT Miller in to be a winger behind Hichier/Hughes. At this stage, he is a far better all around C than either. I don't think JT Miller is the right target, as you either waste some of Millers skill, or impact the young guys development. Obvioulsy at some point NC/JH will likely surpass JTM as they improve and he gets older, but that is not the case yet.

If you are looking on the wing:
-Garland is a real good top 6 option, he would bring a high cost though. He is a very good top 6 on a very good contract. Was our best 5vs5 player by a long shot. If he learns to finish better, he will be scary, creates a ton of chances.
-Hoglander is young and has upside, 1 good season, one down season so far. Not sure where his career goes from here, but is a good gamble if a 2nd line opportunity was there. Both of those guys are smaller more offense oriented. Has another ELC year left.
-Pearson is a good middle six add (3rd line, but can play up). Very vanilla, but good in all aspects. He is a bit overpaid, so the cost to get him is pretty low. Not a guy you really notice too much until you have to replace him. Always on the ice at the end of games.

Mercer is 100% off the table for Miller. Makes no sense for the Devils. Mercer + Severson is also far too high of a price.

Marino trade certainly makes Severson expendable but not sure Canucks would want a deal around Severson given he also has 1 year left.

Feels like Miller is just priced high. 1 year left, just put up 99 points I believe. Has size, plays all positions.

If this guy can do another 90 point season he'll get more than Gaudreau got.

That said, he's not a top tier star like McDavid/Matthews, so the nucks probably feel they could get his value and not automatically lose on the deal. Teams probably want him cheap asset wise.

Maybe the teams are talking about extensions with each player? Jersey with Miller and Van with Severson?

I’d do Severson + Sharngovich

That’s exactly the type of return Canuck’s management (seemingly, since they don’t want to take a step back) would want.
Is it a fair trade hockey speaking?
Devils could probably add something to it like a pick or more NHL ready prospect like Boqvist.

Edit: This all depends on and assumes that Nemec is ready for an 82 game season. I doubt he is to be honest.

What I see happening is Nemec gets a few games at the beginning of the season and plays most of the season in Utica.

Devils keep Severson until the deadline and trade him then. Nemec finishes the season in NJ when Severson is traded.

Mercer is not available in a trade for Miller.

I read Carolina is almost done with their off-season moves. They acquired Burns and Pacioretty. They signed Kase. They will re-sign Necas to a bridge contract. Bear is still there. Arbitration eligible.

Before this off season I really thought Miller would go to Pittsburgh, Boston or New York but now with all their moves I feel like Columbus and New Jersey will make the move. Severson/Peeke + 2023 1st + B+ prospect should do it I'd think.

From a fan perspective Nemec or Jiricek would he ideal but I really doubt they move their shiny new toys. So far at development camp Nemec looks like he could make the show this year anyways which makes Severson pretty expendable after the Marino trade.

Severson+1st+?
I just don't see how this works. Severson is a lock to be worth a late first + at the deadline. The market has not shown that Miller would have that kind of value

*Edit*

since this was worded poorly on my part and multiple people have commented, I am not saying Miller is not worth a late first + at the deadline. I was saying the market does not support him having a rental value of severson + first + more (as quoted proposal requests) given the likely trade value of severson as his own rental. This would be similar to asking for two firsts + two prospects, and the rental market hasn't yielded that in quite some time.

"That kind of value" is in reference to the total perceived cumulative value of the assets being given in the proposal I quoted, not in reference or as a point of comparison to the value I believe severson will return at the deadline

Marino is arguably just as good as Severson and only got Ty Smith+3rd…what makes you think that Miller would have less value than that at the deadline? Miller fetches 1st+Solid prospect at the deadline quite easily.
