I just don't see how this works. Severson is a lock to be worth a late first + at the deadline. The market has not shown that Miller would have that kind of value
I do think Miller extended at say 9 is worth two 1sts+ Tyce Thompson
So Severson extended + Mercer/2023 1st + Thompson. Vancouver gets a roster player on an ELC or a 1st round pick in a great draft.
I wanna keep Holtz for his shot and Mercer is more expendable because he proved he can play already. Devils are getting a proven talent in Miller so it seems fair
Lets say they want Mercer. Youd have an offense of:
Miller-Hughes-Sharangovich
Palat-Hischier-Bratt
Boqvist-Haula-Holtz
Tatar-McLeod-Bastian
Wood on IR, Johnsson extra
I know other Devils fans will probably say thats way too much but that instantly makes us better now, and we retain Holtz + the 2023 1st. Mercer will be a great player I think but will we be able to afford him and Holtz anyway if we ever acquire a top-6 player in the next two years?
If we are committed to keeping our offense as is going forward then keep Mercer and move the 1st. But then its very crowded and Holtz cant play the fourth line (or maybe he doesnt make the team?)
