Marino is arguably just as good as Severson and only got Ty Smith+3rd…what makes you think that Miller would have less value than that at the deadline? Miller fetches 1st+Solid prospect at the deadline quite easily.
Marino is not as good as severson.

For sure Miller brings a first+ prospect. So does severson. So by saying severson + 1st + prospect, you're saying Miller is worth two firsts + two prospects. The market does not support that trade value for a rental Miller.

Columbus probably makes the most sense at this point considering they are going for it now after signing Gaudreau. Could you imagine a Gaudreau-Miller-Laine line..

Plus they have Peeke and other young assets that would be appealing to the Canucks. And of course there’s the Ohio thing with Miller so it makes sense for him to want to be there long term as well. If I were the Canucks I’d start the ask with Peeke, Roslovic, 1st.

I just don't see how this works. Severson is a lock to be worth a late first + at the deadline. The market has not shown that Miller would have that kind of value
I do think Miller extended at say 9 is worth two 1sts+ Tyce Thompson

So Severson extended + Mercer/2023 1st + Thompson. Vancouver gets a roster player on an ELC or a 1st round pick in a great draft.

I wanna keep Holtz for his shot and Mercer is more expendable because he proved he can play already. Devils are getting a proven talent in Miller so it seems fair

Lets say they want Mercer. Youd have an offense of:

Miller-Hughes-Sharangovich
Palat-Hischier-Bratt
Boqvist-Haula-Holtz
Tatar-McLeod-Bastian
Wood on IR, Johnsson extra

I know other Devils fans will probably say thats way too much but that instantly makes us better now, and we retain Holtz + the 2023 1st. Mercer will be a great player I think but will we be able to afford him and Holtz anyway if we ever acquire a top-6 player in the next two years?

If we are committed to keeping our offense as is going forward then keep Mercer and move the 1st. But then its very crowded and Holtz cant play the fourth line (or maybe he doesnt make the team?)

Severson is not a guy Vancouver should be targeting in a Miller trade, it makes no sense.
Rumors are they wanna dump Myers, if they do that theres a clear spot for him.

If they dont need Severson id still pay Mercer+, but im not also including the 2023 1st or Holtz with him. Itd have to be a collection of assets after that, since Vancouver would be getting back a good roster player on an ELC for two more years aged 20.

Let me rephrase that, Severson should not be a guy they target as the basis of a Miller trade. Swapping Miller for Severson and his next contract isn’t making this a better team. They need younger, cost controlled assets to make it worthwhile. Mercer would be interesting, how was his play at center last season?

You saying JT would not be worth a 1st round pick at the TDL, the same JT Miller that has been a PPG player since joining the Canucks and finished last season with 99pts...Come on man! Ben Chiarot got a 1st plus this past tdl as did Giroux and Lindholm...

That is not what I said. I was saying he was not worth the combined value of that and severson. It was worded poorly. Miller as a rental is not worth 2 firsts + 2 prospects, which is what is being asked for when saying first +severson +

I offered Severson extended + Mercer + Tyce Thompson for Miller extended, add a 2nd or 3rd

Mercer can play center and did relatively well, second half of the season IIRC he plyed more wing but out of sheer need for his skill in the top-6 (we were injury-riddled). He can play center long-term and do well I feel.

If you really dont want Severson the package gets hairy from there because Vancouver doesnt have any deals with 1 year worth dumping that NJ could fit. And NJ cant send off two of Holtz/Mercer/2023 1st, and Vancouver I bet would covet Mercer more.

My best I can do if no Severson is maybe a deal of Mercer+NJ 2023 2nd (upgraded to a 2023 1st if NJ makes it to the 2nd round)+Shakir Mukhamadullin and maybe another middling 3rd . Definitely not as sexy thats for sure. Would also require NJ dump Severson and Andreas Johnsson seperately to sign Jesper Bratt, seems like a lot to fit one guy.

Ill gladly keep him. I love Mercer

But I dont want to move Holtz before him and the 2023 1st isnt enough if they dont want Severson

Perfect world they move Myers and get Severson extended + 2023 1st + Thompson.

Devils can just keep Mercer and Holtz and have all young cost controlled forwards outside Palat, but I dont think Fitzgerald is going to have us start contending without acquiring another big chip up front. Thats putting a lot of faith in Mercer and Holtz and Sharangovich.

Sorry I don't think we should be trading our 1st at all, and especially not for Miller. Severson as a rental is worth a 1st and a mid tier prospect. Extended he is worth more, that's too much for am unsigned Miller

Extended Miller is worth more as well. At the moment, he's a rental. Miller as a rental > Severson as a rental.

I could see Columbus being a better fit for Miller. They've got Johnson and Sillinger that may fill out the middle in a few years, but you've got to imagine they'd want a bonafide 1st line center to play with Gaudreau for a few years. I could see the Canucks retaining on the remainder of Miller's contract for the right price as well.

Its all for an extended miller , ive said around 9m X 7 years

Im clearly more of a fan of him than most Devils fans, but he comes across as our most realistic option. Is Meier really available? Tkachuk will cost even more though he is younger, but then were talking Mercer+1st+

I’m ready for the next management team in Vancouver already. Good thing JR only has this year coming up and the year after under contract. Allvin will get the boot as well because I don’t see our ownership with as much patience as in the past. These guys have literally missed the boat on everything since last trade deadline and signed a bunch of wingers to a team stacked with wingers.

Pittsburgh was on to something giving them the boot and you can see they know how to talk the talk but not walk the walk. Very underwhelming and disappointing.

I would assume if NJ is interested in JT Miller they would like to have him extended when trading for him. NJ is not a team that would be looking to acquire a rental player. Can a deal be made, we will have to wait and see
