I can't see Adams being in on Helly. He's UFA after next year and then will likely be looking for a long-term, high-money commitment. With Levi looming, I don't think KA will be able to justify paying the price to rent Helly for one year.

Saros/Demko/Vejmelka seem like better candidates for us -- 2-3 years to UFA. So if Levi needs more than a year in Rochester, we're covered until he's ready.........and don't need to pay a premium in BOTH acquisition cost AND money to do so (which is what Helly would be).
Its the modern NHL. You don't need one starting goaltender. You need TWO!

That is fair. My thinking was signing Hellebucyk long term would stabilize your goaltending for the next several years to go along with a young and talented roster.

No doubt some of those other goalies in the list will be available for less than Helle would cost.

Or you have a Shesterkin/Vasi/Helly/Saros-level starter and then a capable backup.

I/Sabres are hoping Levi is a goalie that just needs a capable backup. But we do need a legit starter until Levi is ready, and then hope that whichever we keep out of Comrie and UPL steps up when we get our team defense sorted out.

If was that guy's goalie, I would be livid because that would put a target on me the next time those two teams play.

Without knowing what started it (like the Probert game in Detroit), if I was on the ice as a teammate of the guy trucking the goalie when that happened, I would've skated over to the bench and let him get the round robin ass kicking from the rest of the guys out there.

I’m going to presume our respected analytics department understands goals below expected. Which means any of these goalies returning can only be done in service of saving a buck and punting on yet another season.

Fans are clamoring for Levi now, but I WOULD NOT put him into this shitshow until the final few games of the season

Kevin gets another failing grade for his insistence on kicking the can down the road for a goalie. The worst part is, outside of a trade, who even wants to play here? This team will crush your soul. We're f***ed if the gap isn't filled between now and when Levi is NHL ready.

6 GA on 2 xGF. This is disgraceful.

It's not just about making the playoffs or not. Bad goaltending has literally demoralized the team and they have quit, once again, in the last 20 games.

WTF is Granato doing leaving guys in there to give up 10 goals, 7 goals, 6 goals in 2 periods? Either he's pissed at all of them or he's pissed at Adams and making a point. That's not normal to leave a goalie in for 10 goals. And then do it twice more within a couple weeks.

One of the podcast (may have been the PDOCast) had a goalie episode that said it was a bad goal that was more detrimental to a team winning games than anything else. And last night was another batch of bad goals.

Part of it is that Anderson can't play in back-to-back situations. It's baked into having Methuselah in net.

Imagine trying to play hockey knowing that every single chance you give up could hit the back of the net. It’s hilariously disgusting how bad the goaltending is. It’s demoralizing.

Imagine being a goaltender knowing that every single chance given up in front of you will be high danger....and that you will legitimately not have a chance at stopping 25% of these chances. It's hilariously disgusting how bad the team defense is. It's demoralizing to the goaltenders.

Goes both ways.

It is literally untrue though. You’re acting as if every chance against is a HDCA. We do give up the most, it’s not every goal scored. There was a time we were like 15th in most major defensive stats and still leaking goals! Absolving the goalies of responsibility is asinine.

It's as true as saying that "every single chance you give up could hit the back of the net".

I'm not absolving the goalies of responsibilities. But it's not nearly as black and white as you're trying to make it either. The defense shares a LARGE portion of the responsibility here.

Granted, our goalie play hasn't been good the last few games. But over the course of the entire season.....the team defense is a larger problem than the play of our goalies.
