Is anyone else starting to question Mike Bales?

I know he hasn’t had much to work with, but still… I just haven’t seen much (if any) improvement in any of the goaltenders he’s worked with here.

When we had Jim Corsi it seemed like we always had competent goaltending even from our backups. When Arturs Irbe was here for a season, same thing.

Bales…? It’s hard not to start to question how good of a goaltending coach he is.
I heard Irbe is available after Worlds.

Upl. or comrie needs to reflect or ahl and get refocused on weaknesss and strength. first couple years many goalies have .8 sv %. and figure it out .

check out first couple years, then age 24 25 ..etc.

hasek sucked til 27 , 28 stats

was barasso rushed, didn't get confidence til late 20s. or just the era.

or the binnington effect.. did he emotionally implode, League figure him out .so many variables. I imagine Levi has studied this qnd he'll get. a pass w our d to get experience , invaluable

Again, I didn't say trade Mitts, I just made an argument for why him and Greenway are going to be trying to occupy one spot next year. One must go. Neither are good enough of shooters to justify playing them on the RW as primary shooters. Its not Mitts hate.

That said, from a pure hockey stance, Mitts is "just a guy." He is both tradeable, and more importantly, upgradeable.
I moved my post you quoted to the roster speculation thread. We can debate it there and avoid taking this thread even further OT.

Your 2022-2023 goaltending.

Two years running of begging them not to take the bottom of the barrel, cheapest, last guy left after 31 teams pick their guy. Two years of atrocious option in net.

Now shit gets much more serious. Doing it again next year not only jeopardizes the development of a top prospect in Levi…but also wastes (another) year where your best players are young and many of them are cheap.

No more f***ing around.

Do it again and you have to be fired.

I won't hold my breath about GMKA getting another goalie for next year. I assume he will ride with 6K and Comrie . If he gets more D to help then I'll be alittle mollified. But are we sure it's a D problem and not our system though? I guess we'll see if he brings in some compentant blue liners and we're still a tire fire defensively next year.

No GM concerned with helping their franchise next year returns any of these goalies.

They have 0 NHL goalies for next year on this roster.

If his plan is UPL/Comrie…that’s dead

If his plan is Levi/one of them…that’s embarrassing

If his plan is Levi/A new bottom of the barrel guy who 31 teams pass on…that’s horrible

Get a f***ing NHL goalie. Adams has worked here for almost three full years. It’s on him.

I mean…holy crap. He’s been a GM for three seasons and doesnt have ONE NHL goalie on his roster heading into year four.

There's gotta be a site out there that measures odd-man rushes against and breakaways against.

Goaltending isn't helping.......but I still maintain that the major issue with allowing goals is our craptacular defensive "system". That is, outside of a couple....no forwards are even average defensively and most look like they couldn't be bothered to actually play defense.

Part if that is our tactics that stretch the team thin. If we start playing more conservative and back off forwards will probably look better defensively.
We always lose at least one man high.

There have been games where the whole 5-man unit comes back, makes sure they establish possession and are below the tops of the circles before turning to move as a group back up the ice. That seems to be more in line with how the staff is asking for them to play. That they aren't doing that and are instead leaving early to try to press offensively is getting them into trouble more and more often. Couple that with some defensemen who are struggling to play their position in their own zone and it's just hard to find a sound defensive game. It doesn't sacrifice their offense when they play that way but it seems like they think that it does and that's problematic.

A prominent name missing in that list is Connor Hellebucyk.

He has 1 year to UFA. Jets and Sabres are going in opposite directions. This Jets fan thinks the best plan is to trade him as part of a very necessary rebuild.

What would Sabres fans feel is a fair offer for one of the dominant goalies in the league?

comrie/upl, 1st 2023, prospect not named levi, kulich or savoie.
Doubt the Jets would take it though.

I can't see Adams being in on Helly. He's UFA after next year and then will likely be looking for a long-term, high-money commitment. With Levi looming, I don't think KA will be able to justify paying the price to rent Helly for one year.

Saros/Demko/Vejmelka seem like better candidates for us -- 2-3 years to UFA. So if Levi needs more than a year in Rochester, we're covered until he's ready.........and don't need to pay a premium in BOTH acquisition cost AND money to do so (which is what Helly would be).

Looks like Anderson tomorrow as he's getting most of the work while Comrie and UPL split time at the other end of the rink per Twitter.
