Do you think that, as coach, Avery would find a way to screen the other coach from talking to his players during a timeout?

See? Now we are getting into the kind of strategy that Avery conbring that other would-be coaches cannot.

Intangibles baby! Intangibles!

Cally backing Tortollini

I'd be far more interested in what Henke or even someone like Nash or Gaby have to say on the subject. Cally is the official spokesman for the players. It's like asking Sam Rosen's opinion on the quality of Sather's work over the last 15 years. And as Tawnos points out, not exactly a ringing endorsement.

It's not like any of the players are gonna say that they want him gone on camera or during an interview.

I don't really care if he stays or goes. If he stays and we end up playing like dog **** during the first weeks of next season, after having a full camp with preseason games, then he definitely should be gone.

Hopefully Avery coming out of his hole and making stupid comments can provide this team with a spark. I mean, Avery was miscast so often as some sort of catalyst, why not now??

Reading the tea leaves with Stepan and callahans quotes are fun, but the only definitive truth here is that Sean Avery is still the worthless clown he's been for the past 5 years.

One note about Sean Avery that just occurred to me. Isn't he good friends with Richards? Maybe this is coming from somewhere legit. Obviously, it's total speculation on my part, but it is a thought.

He's also good friends with Lundqvist and I'm sure others on the team as well.

If we miss, he should be fired. Not until that point, however. No reason to fire him right at this moment.

I'd say 30th in goals for and 8th place in the conference is enough reason to fire him.

But, I digress. As much as I'd like to see a change, I get the mentality of sticking to it as long as you're in the race.

That said, I could see the end coming if we keep losing and not scoring. We're 3-6-1 in the last 10. When Renney was fired, we were 2-5-3 in our last 10. Same amount of points.

Find myself #listeningto Gotta Get Up by Harry Nilsson.....Relax with the official statements its kinda embarrassing. :) :) :) :)
Something is kinda embarrassing and it's not the official statements.

I don't see the point in firing Torts this season. No point in scrambling to find a new coach and using an interim like Sullivan won't mean much.

No point in firing now. 14 games left wont do ****.

Offseason yes, and into next season, absolutely.

If we miss the playoffs, he should be fired no question. 2 missed playoffs in 4 years and one we barely got in.. That's just not good enough.

I don't see anything major happening this season. I think everything relies on next season. I see Torts gone, Gabby gone (no matter what) and Richards bought out if the Rangers have a **** season. The reason being like other's have said is the shortened season. *

*I also think next season will be a great one from the Rangers.

Maybe he thought twice because it looks like it may have been deleted.

Tortorella is more of an embarrassment than Avery ever was. This is the same guy that got himself suspended from Game 6 of a playoff game. Get rid of the caveman.

Sather should trade Torts to the Flyers for Laviolette

would love that trade, it might actually work for both teams too. rangers might be need of an attention to details x and o guy, while the flyers could use a fire under your ass motivator with attention on the defensive side.

I'm not a torts guy. Obviously.

Firing him now does nothing ?? Wrong. It gives us a chance.. This team has talent. They can win and with hank in a good place they can go deep. But firing torts now still gives us a chance. If you dont, you are giving up. Throwing in the towel on the season.

Haven't we all seen enough to know that nothing's gonna change this season.

I would love to see this team with new coaching and a whole new attitude. Balls to the walls uptempo attacking style rather than this dump and retreat crap we've been suffering through.

Take chances. Create chances. Pinch and pressure the puck all over the ice. Rely on our world class goaltender to bail us out. Take the shackles off this team. If we lose, go down swinging.

This team has tuned him out. Forget what they say to the press, watch how they play. He's lost them.

Fire torts and sully. Hire a young offensive minded coach who can actually coach during games.

I agree . I rather watch a team create , trade chances and score than lose with Dignity

Come on, you really think Stepan is gonna AGREE with controversial comments from Avery in public?

Youre not really that naive are you?

Every interview is politically correct.

I can only imagine Stepan going "yeah, we suck, its time Torts got fired, we dont like playing this ******* system."

I wasnt the biggest fan of Avery, but hes got nothing to lose here and still KIT with the players, some of which are friends for life in Hank, Gaby, etc. Hes absolutely right, whether you hate him or not.

Who does Avery have to answer to with this comment? Nobody.

He didnt get a fairshake from Tortorella, like we are currently witnessing with so many others (Kreider, Gaborik, Zuccarello, etc.)

It's equally naive to think that a guy who you yourself said "didn't get a fair shake," has no axe to grind here. Sure, he has "nothing to lose," by trashing Torts, but he also has something to gain from doing so. If Avery can convince people that Torts is an idiot, than Avery didn't lose his NHL game, get demoted, get passed on by every team in the league and the quit. Instead, he was a fine NHL hockey player that got screwed out of his position by a "clown" coach. Guess which narrative he'd prefer to be the one attached to him?

Also, this sob stories about players not getting a fair shake are absolute fabrications. Gaborik got a very, very fair shake. He had two of the best seasons of his career with Torts and was a first line forward the entire time until very recently, when his garbage play got him demoted. Kreider, say what you will, I don't see a guy who deserves more than he's getting at all. The team sucks so people want him getting max minutes - easy to say when you're a poster on a website and not even a little bit responsible for the outcome of an expensive and important asset like Kreider is to NYR. Zucc struggled to make it in the NHL, was up and down from the A, finally found his spot and then got injured. Now, he's back and Torts gave him more minutes than anyone the other night. These are all fair ways to treat players. Torts isn't a perfect coach by any means, but that doesn't give any credit to these sob stories.

Guess which narrative he'd prefer to be the one attached to him?

I'm pretty sure he doesn't give a flying ..... what other people think about him.

Either he is 'paying back' his mistreatment by trashing Tortorella or doing the team a favor by pointing out the elephant in the room. Which one is it, only handful of people know for sure. Bottom line is, the guy has more inside information than all of us combined. I wouldn't just shrug his opinion off solely because some people might have a certain opinion about him.

Stepan and Cally come out and said what they needed to say.

But, if they are actually being 100% honest and still are behind Torts...Why does this team suck so much? Do they care to answer that, straight up?

The players under performing, Slats not doing his job, Torts not motivating his team and adjusting are all reasons why this team flat out sucks right now. Who the **** is going to take responsibility? God damn it, this is the only team that gets shutout two games in a row and says "well at least we got some chances". Chances don't win hockey games. Putting the little puck in the net does. Enough is enough.

I am sick of the same boring answers Torts and his team has to why they suck. Hank is the only one with any type of emotional reaction.
