Huh. You guys gonna believe all these anonymous "insiders", random nameless "scouts", or the geniuses on these boards who think they know everything that goes on inside the lockerroom; or a guy that is actually IN the lockerroom, and playing FOR the coach being discussed? Or does this not fit what you're sellin'?

From the PGT:

I think Torts good at working with the players and I think they like that he is straight with them.

But, we only win when we outwork the other team by some margin, and like we have seen before you cannot do that year after year. The other teams and other coaches in his league also trys to work hard. Torts hasn't done his job with this team. He has cheated. When we just match the effort of the team we play, we are embarrassed.

I am not an expert. I am not a coach. Ive played "pro" (low end) hockey for 3-4 years (16-20). But I can tell when a team really plays like sheit from a team point of view -- in areas that a coach is directly responsible for -- and we are really doing that.

This team is the victim of some serious shortage of drilling. That work that a good coach puts in year after year in the game today helps you solve situations. Open up a defense. It shows.

In 03' you could almost benefit from being extremely concequent at just getting the puck away from your own end. That is just not the case 2013. Torts just ten years behind.

I 100% think Torts is to blame for this. We are maybe the worst drilled team in the league, who have tried to play 2003 hockey in 2013.

BUT, I do not think he should be fired now. Because whoever comes in after him, may it be a Ruff or even if it were a Claude Julien, Joel Quenville, Mike Babcock or someone like that, would have a complete and utter nightmare.

The teams around us has build "a game" for several years now after the lockout. Look at Boston how they use the entire ice to get up ice and use their big bodies. 2-3 hard passes and then they go at it. The game is so extremely fast at this level and the marginals so small that it does take alot of time to pinn those things down. And if you do it year after year after year it just shows. We have not done any of that work for three years now. Its the most evident on the PP that we just aren't comfortable at all with the puck, but for a coach that comes in and trys to play with this team the way the best teams in the league plays it will be a complete NIGHTMARE because that coach will have to start completely from scratch. "Guys, we are actually going to pass the puck to each other, not just throw it up ice". If we try to play Lindy Ruff or Claude Julien hockey or like any of the top team's in this league type of hockey, with this team, we (read: CBJ) are destined for a top 3 pick. The adjustment period is that long.

We have a top 3-5 roster in the NHL this season, and even if the odds are really small due to Torts horrible job behind the bench, I think we just create more problems, give a new guy the worst possible start, if we make a change now. Wait till the off-season, hope for Hank to somehow carry this clusterF to the PO's and once there you never know with injury's and what not.

On Gernander as the new coach, I've only seen a odd game of HFD/Con here and there yearly like the last 2-3 years, so I can't comment on Gernander, but I do believe this. It is time for this organization to for like the first time since Keenan came here in 92' (?) get a coach with a recent good track record. Torts came here after finnishing last overall with a Tampa team with a ton of nukes. Renney came here after a short and failed stint in Vancouver. Slats was a complete and utter joke behind the bench, he just do not figure out the modern game. Its a joke to not try -- what he labelled as -- "trapping" in the NHL 2003. Heck the games are 10x as offensive now and we "trap" now. That was the trap era. Ron Low, avg at best in EDM. Trottier, rookie right? Muckler, 75 y/o "GM". Campbell, zero experience as a head coach.

Look at the standings over a 3 year cycle, let the top 5 guys know that they'll make 15 million USD per if they come and coach in NY. Let Babcock choose between making 2m per in Detroit or 15m per in NY.

When we signed Torts we got the guy with the worst track record in the league (or tied worst, because I recon someone finnished last overall the year after Torts did it before sitting out). I mean, if we are to replace Brad Richards we would hardly look at Scott GOmez. Why do we bring in someone like Torts?

Get someone who is proven and can handle the game. The game change so fast. It really really does. I mean, a young kid cannot fanthom how big of a change the game made between 1992 and 1998 and 2004 and 2010. And really how common it is for a coach to be "money" in 1993 but just not able to adjust to 1999 and so forth.

I still think tis team is capable of a run.

It really is pathetic if we aren't with the assets we have...

I think our assets are mis matched and mis used . I see how Canadiens and OTT handled us . Kept us to outside managed te cycle by staying on the right side of th puck and not allowing anyone in the crease . The cycle is only useful when the puck is moved to the point and or the slot and a good scoring chance is created . The NYR need quicker , better shooters both up front and at the point .
McD
Girardi
Staal all can contain big names but are not very good shooters . We defend fine , out PK is worse but still 2-3 GA should no be death sentences .
The problem is systemic and this reflects the personnell and coaching . Not saying Torts is a bad coach but he's become ineffective and so has the game plan .
SCRAP THIS , Play prospects these next 14 and re evaluate . If cant trade for prospects waive a bunch of these guys

That Stepan quote has to be taken with quite the grain of salt because there is no way he's going to sling mud at his coach in the middle of a locker room interview.

I'll add...and after back to back shutouts.

After all the coach is the only one who takes shots at players in the media...

Could it be that Torts calling out Gabby after last seasons PO elimination, even though he played 2 rounds with a torn labrum soured some guys?

“Gabby ... still has to learn, I believe, along with a number of our guys ... that when you get to the conference finals — and Gabby wasn’t bad in the first two rounds — as it ratchets up and there are four teams left, you have to get it to another level, and I don’t think he was able to,†Tortorella said on the Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio.

Avery came out today and blasted Torts, calling him a clown.Saying he should be fired and all the players hate him.If this was posted sorry, not gonna read 25 pages about Torts

I remember Jets players all defending Mark Sanchez last season too down to a man saying he's not the problem and that everyone else on the team feels the same. Players who value what others think of them will never bash a teammate or coach in the media. Never.

From the PGT:

Come on, you really think Stepan is gonna AGREE with controversial comments from Avery in public?

Youre not really that naive are you?

Every interview is politically correct.

I can only imagine Stepan going "yeah, we suck, its time Torts got fired, we dont like playing this ******* system."

I wasnt the biggest fan of Avery, but hes got nothing to lose here and still KIT with the players, some of which are friends for life in Hank, Gaby, etc. Hes absolutely right, whether you hate him or not.

Who does Avery have to answer to with this comment? Nobody.

He didnt get a fairshake from Tortorella, like we are currently witnessing with so many others (Kreider, Gaborik, Zuccarello, etc.)

I don't see the Rangers firing Tortorella anytime soon. The Rangers finished first last year and suck this year. Does that make him a good coach or a bad coach? The only coaches/managers I've ever liked on my favorite teams were when I was a kid and didn't know any better. There are things that I like a about Torts like his no nonsense attitude and never being satisfied. And there are things that I don't like; number one his refusal to allow line chemistry to develop and then wondering why his team can't score. And the other is bringing in stars for more offense and refusing to allow them to play offense. I don't know what the answer is.

We have been mediocre since February of last year.

Last 27 games of 2011-12: 14-11-2

Playoffs: 10-7-3

2012-13: 16-15-3

Combined record: 40-33-8 over the last 81 games.

I say fire him already. It can't possible get worse with a new coach can it?

but who would you hire our there?? honestly dont want ruff.. its hard to fire a coach and figure out a solid replacement.. this was a **** year with half season.. each yr torts has gotten this team better and better with the exception of this season, which has been a **** show but i think he gets another year.. but who to bring in?

i want someone young and innovative if anything.. something different but i honestly like torts.. i blame sather first and foremost.. never retooled just pieced and make shifted the new guys that came in here with poor scouting and not fitting players to our coaches style.. again im going to say this if Richards and Gaborik were on top of their game things wouldn't be magnified and issues wouldnt be presented.. EVERYTHING is based off of our top guns... we only go as far as they lead us and they haven done ****!!..

Ryan Callahan on Sean Avery's tweet re: Torts. "Sean Avery's comments solely represent his own thoughts and opinions....(Cont'd).

More Callahan: "He did not speak for us as a team when he was here and certainly does not now". - Ryan Callahan on behalf of NYR players.

I think Torts time has run out. The players are sick and tired of being told to sacrifice every part of their body and collapse in front of the goal. Creativity is gone. Puck possession is gone. I've never like the system, I hated it last year but you
Lived with it because it worked and the whole no offensive talent thing. Now though this is a different type of team and the coach has failed to see that or is just plain old stubborn to change and that is unacceptable and for that he needs to go.

If we miss, he should be fired. Not until that point, however. No reason to fire him right at this moment.

Haha... that's what you read there? What's great about that quote is that Callahan doesn't actually disagree with Avery, he just says Avery doesn't speak for the team. It's political double speak and Ryan might make a good politician one day. (I'm not saying that Callahan doesn't back Tortorella, just saying that that particular quote isn't him doing it)

Agreed completely. Instead of scouting for players, they should be scouting other teams' practices.

Exactly. Callahan said nothing to "back up" his coach.
