since vesey hasnt been so stupid as to name the teams hes intersted in specifically (and thus hurting his potential bargaining position)

and since any teams ( other than buffalo and nashville) who say they are intersted in vesey are guilty of tampering.

we can realize all these 'insiders' who feel the need to give us a list of 4-6 teams ultimately make money when we click their links for this intel... and that is the reason we keep seeing it.

in the end around 40% of this crap will be correct... half the insiders will be able to brag that vesey signed with one of the 3-4 teams on their short list... or one of the 2 unnamed darkhorse teams.

it all is intersting to me, so i say keep it coming, but there is no LEGAL way any of these insiders know one itoa of truth more than you and i do.

we can all make a list of the top 6 teams involved here and at least 50% of us will get it right. sometimes this insider stuff drives me crazy

This thread will be unbearable tomorrow with everyone with a twitter account stating their sources tell them who has spoken to and who he will sign with.

Wherever he signs, I hope he has a decent first season to make this little circus worthwhile.

There isn't much Bargaining that can be done. Vesey will get the maximum 2 year ELC with maximum performance bonuses. Teams can't offer anymore than that. And any team that isn't willing to do that, (cough, Lou, cough, Maple Leafs) will likely be taken off his list.

I don't even have to have a source to tell me that Buffalo Sabres have already done that. They didn't give up a 3rd rounder just to try and hard ball him in negotiations while still having plenty of cap space for the next two years.

People blab. Players, Agents (he's been pretty vocal this whole process to increase his clients position), Team officials, media etc. While I'm sure some of these insiders are just cashing in and trying to pickup some followers and fake internet points, at least a few of these guys have some form of relationship with someone in or around the organization. And as we've seen time and time again, even at the highest level people are going to blab to their media buddies. Look at the unsealed emails from the NHL concussion talks.

Then again even knowing people might not even be needed. Just being polite and confident on a phone can take you far. Having written for HF, and having very limited credentials, and a non-hockey heavy resume, I've literally shot the **** with some pretty big people and have learned some great things and was able to publish it (and some more I wasn't - and I'm sure some of it was misinformation they just wanted to push or they were testing me to see if I'd publish something I said I wouldn't). Oh crap, there I go blabbing again.

I heard from my good friend Batman the other day. He said Vesey was signing with Gotham.

About as legit a source as any at the moment. Probably more so...because he's Batman and everyone else isn't.

Batman is a clear Gotham homer..... I wouldn't trust anything he has to say if it relates to Gotham.

Quick question... with Nashville trading the rights of JV away would that mean that BUF then gets the compensatory pick? My first guess would be yes they would, otherwise they end up with the 3rd they got in the trade as well as a comp. pick. As I said though just a guess, do you know for sure either way?

Edit: Or does the trade negate the comp. pick all together?

In hockey there's only comp picks for 1st rounders which Vesey was not. So no comp pick for anyone.

Had he been a 1st rounder the compensation would go to the team who had his rights when it ran out, so Buffalo, but obviously if he were a 1st rounder with compensation of a 2nd round pick they wouldn't have traded him for a 3rd. They would have just taken the 2nd rounder they would have gotten as compensation.

For example Conner Bleackley was a 1st round pick for Colorado, they traded him to Arizona in the Boedker trade and he did not sign, Arizona got the comp pick.

Good for Vesey. I wish more young men would do the same -- by completing their university degrees before turning pro. It's not an easy thing to do.

A friend of mine played for Cornell in the Ken Dryden-era. He completed his degree, pursued a career in business and retired as a self-made millionaire before he was 45. It was the degree itself that was the prize. He was a very, very bright, talented man, and the degree from Cornell opened doors for him along the way.

Any one of these players are an injury or a performance slump away from not having a highly paid NHL career. Vesey included. I most hope that Jimmy Vesey will put himself in the best position to have a good, happy life during and after hockey.

He's a lot more than a hockey player, and I think he recognizes that. The hockey career is not the be-all and the end-all for him. He has some other things going for him as well.

It is very nice to see.

Another kid who looked good in college spurning his team causing media noise over his "decision" who won't live up to the hype. Next.

I'll be the first to admit the media has vastly over-hyped Jimmy Vesey in some regards. The whole "Vesey Watch" is ridiculous. However there is merit to Vesey's skill. This isn't some over-hyped, future bust. Vesey is a big body, who skates well, has excellent hockey sense and a tremendous skill set. While the media's portraying him as a franchise saving 40 goal scorer, he's not that, but he will be a capable top six winger with 30 goal, 60/70 point potential at his peak.
