Why exactly does he ''deserve'' to go to the Hawks?

It would be good for the player to come to a classy organization. Would also be good for the league and the sport as a whole, to grow the interest and be an inspiration to young kids around the world that dreams can come through if you work hard enough.

Classy organization. Ok then. I'm sure that being classy is what attracts these FAs. Sure are classy by trading away all of their depth because they can't afford to re-sign them.

Sucks enough to lose a good prospect. Would suck infinitely more to see him go to a division rival and have to play him 5 times a season (assuming he's good). :puppy: Please stay in the bloody northeast Jimmy.

Would be better for him to go to an organization that can afford to sign him to a second contract in two years.

Vesey has gone to all this trouble in order to have the freedom to choose where he plays.

Why would he go to a team that's already Cap-strapped and that will likely have to trade his RFA rights (to god knows where) in two years when his rookie contract is up?

I can't see him signing anywhere else than Toronto or Boston. The Bruins for the obvious reasons with him bring a local kid and fulfilling a dream.

But I think Toronto has the upper hand. His brother is drafted by them and his father works for them.

His father is now sick which makes it even more sensitive, and one thing you can be certain of with Lou Lamoriello is that he takes care of his own. He will make sure Vesey Sr is well taken care of and that will go a long way with Jimmy Vesey.

That's just my gut feeling.

I hope I'm wrong though and he signs with the Devils, but I doubt it.

You make it sound as if Lou will take Vesey's father hostage (wouldn't surprise me).

In what way does Vesey to Chicago grow interest and inspiration to children around the world? Is Chicago suddenly mankind's greatest achievement?

Any pro hockey player playing for any NHL team is just as much proof that dreams can come true through hard work. Vesey and Chicago would not be breaking new ground in any manner whatsoever.

Well the meaning of classy might just be lost on this Vesey kid.

If it comes down to being near his dad, he'll sign with Boston, which I believe he will.

Why even have RFA's at all? Just let everyone pick where they can go. I don't think Anaheim was too pleased at the time losing Schultz for nothing, and I don't think Nashville is all too happy either. I don't think you should just get an 'out'.

Indeed, RFA status is a scam and should be abolished together with the draft.

Gotham is a cross between NYC and Chicago.

Both Gotham City and Metropolis are loosely based on New York City.

Both are located on the East Coast in the mid-Atlantic region.

Each may take some stylistic influences from Chicago and other cities, but both are predominately based on New York.

I imagine in a few hours we'll definitively know what teams he's talking with.

I mean, it's likely the 6 already speculated heavily. But who knows. We should know soon.

Come on Bobfather, don't let me down.

There is no loophole. He is exercising the same right as an RFA that gets drafted out of a CHL league has, except the CHL drafted guy goes back into the draft after 2 years, then becomes a FA after 4 years if he doesn't sign with his club.

Thank you. I'm not arguing UFA/RFA age or anything of the sorts, not sure why that was being thrown out into the discussion. I just think that you shouldn't be given an 'out' to sign with whoever you please, when you were already drafted by a NHL team.

Nashville just lost a top prospect from their system for nothing. Sure, they didn't use a 1st round pick on him, but it really doesn't matter.

Nashville drafted him #66 3rd rnd. and they received from Buffalo a 3rd rnd. pick. They lost a very promising prospect but they didn't get nothing in return - they got a 3rd rnd. pick.

I would say Hudler, Russell and even Pirri are bigger free agents than Vesey. The aforementioned have at least proven they can play in the NHL and be productive in an NHL role, whatever that may be. Vesey just has a lot of hype surrounding him, just like Justin Schultz did.

Yet few teams are chasing them, and everyone is chasing Vesey, or would like too.

Agreed. There is area downtown that is affordable, but obviously for the money he's making, he'll be able to choose where ever he wants to live.

I see Jimmy as a "Liberty Village" kind of guy....or maybe i just hope to bump into him at Williams Landing...lol

If he's what you consider a "damn mediocre at best" D, then all one can say is that your ability to evaluate ones abilities isn't all that good.

Justin Schultz?

You must be a Penguins fan who has never watched this guy play hockey outside of a sheltered depth role. Otherwise your own ability to evaluate one's abilities isn't all that good. The entire Pacific Division misses Schultz and his soft, braindead play.

I'll be the first to admit the media has vastly over-hyped Jimmy Vesey in some regards. The whole "Vesey Watch" is ridiculous. However there is merit to Vesey's skill. This isn't some over-hyped, future bust. Vesey is a big body, who skates well, has excellent hockey sense and a tremendous skill set. While the media's portraying him as a franchise saving 40 goal scorer, he's not that, but he will be a capable top six winger with 30 goal, 60/70 point potential at his peak.

There were 10 wingers in the entire NHL with 65+ points this past year and 16 wingers in the entire NHL with 30+ goals. I have never seen Vesey play so honestly have no idea how good he can be, so I'm asking more out of ignorance. Do you really think he'll be a top 10-15 winger in the entire NHL at his peak?
