I dont have a dog in this race so I dont really care what mr. vesey does .

I am surprised though that after 2 lockouts the college loophole route hasnt been closed .

If it was that valuable to the teams they would negotiate it out as part of collective bargaining. Like any part of the CBA.

Give to get. Just business.

I love how this is somehow the kids fault because he wanted to go to school and pick where he works.

Newsflash it's the fault of all these ppl who have nothing better to do than discuss him for 474636 pages on hfboards.

Nah it's the 'Burgh.

In that movie, yes, because that is where they decided to film. But "Gotham" is an old nickname for New York, not Pittsburgh. The nickname dates back to 1807. :teach:

FWIW, Chicago was used to depict Gotham in TDK and Batman Begins.

It would be good for the player to come to a classy organization. Would also be good for the league and the sport as a whole, to grow the interest and be an inspiration to young kids around the world that dreams can come through if you work hard enough.

Sabres organization is classy as well. For a matter of fact every NHL team's organization is classy. Not just the Hawks.. All the Hawks have goin for them is Toews/Kane. Without them two im sure Vesey wouldn't even consider chicago.

People get themselves worked up over the daily life of a college free agent. Then get angry at the college free agent for getting themselves worked up.

"Saga?" If you say so.

Jimmy Vesey became an unrestricted NHL free agent at 12:01 this morning, and, according to sources close to the former Harvard star, he has narrowed the list of teams he’ll speak with about signing his first contract.

The Hobey Baker Award-winning left winger, a Charlestown native who grew up in North Reading, will meet with the Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and a lone Western Conference club, the Chicago Blackhawks.

The financial terms that teams will offer are fairly standard — a two-year deal worth some $925,000 per year, with the potential to add up to $2.85 million per year in performance bonuses. So the teams coming to Boston today and tomorrow will pitch Vesey on why they’d be his best choice. The suitors will cite factors like strength of roster with a chance to win a Stanley Cup, the major role he’ll be asked to play, quality of coach and desirability of living and playing in their city.

. . . A source in the Vesey camp said the decision will be announced on Thursday or Friday

There is no loophole. He is exercising the same right as an RFA that gets drafted out of a CHL league has, except the CHL drafted guy goes back into the draft after 2 years, then becomes a FA after 4 years if he doesn't sign with his club.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason CHL players don't ever exploit this rule is that they really have nowhere to play once they turn 21 if they don't sign with their NHL club. Correct?

He'd be an idiot not to go to Chicago. He has a guaranteed top 6 role with either Toews or Kane, a chance at the cup from the get go and just like Panasonic, it'll boost his point total and he'll have an expensive 2nd contract.

Yes in theory, only if they were re-drafted at 20 and haven't signed with that second team.

There were 10 wingers in the entire NHL with 65+ points this past year and 16 wingers in the entire NHL with 30+ goals. I have never seen Vesey play so honestly have no idea how good he can be, so I'm asking more out of ignorance. Do you really think he'll be a top 10-15 winger in the entire NHL at his peak?

I don't know what media he is referring to but I have never seen any media portray him as a 40+ goal franchise saving player, not even close. Everything I have read says he has legit skills and is NHL ready. Some people think he could play on a top line but most say he is a top 6 forward on his team. How someone makes the leap from that description to a franchise saving player I don't know so he must have read something entirely different from the many articles I have read about him.

Ah good the Vesey Saga won't be put to bed until the end of the week.

Gotta get all that limelight while you can, bud.

Another butt hurt Preds fan. You know he was restricted to August 16th by the CBA right? Or do you choose not to understand anything that goes on? He's only been allowed to talk to other teams for 9 hours. I wouldn't sign 9 hours after I was able to talk to teams either.

In fairness, since he wasn't able to legally talk to any team except Buffalo until today, it's pretty reasonable to take a few days to meet with 6 different teams and make a decision.

Yeah, I agree. I haven't seen that either. I was more on the point of Vesey becoming a 30G, 60/70 point winger. Like I said, I know very little about Vesey, but those numbers would put him in the top 10-15 wingers in the league so was wondering if that's what the poster really thought his outlook was.

A scouting report said good size, good offense of skill, however, needs to work on defense and needs to play more physical. Didn't mention his skating. How is he a top 6 winger if he needs to work on defense and get more physical at his size?

An expensive 2nd contract that Chicago probably won't be able to fit under their cap, so his RFA rights will be traded in 2 years to some place out of his control. Maybe he'll be sent to some rebuilding club on the west coast despite his desire to stay near the Northeast.

Seems like quite a risk for a player who has gone to a lot of trouble to have the freedom to choose where he plays.

I'm sure the cap space / ability to sign him to a 2nd contract is one of the important factors Vesey is considering.

I really hope he signs somewhere sometime today.

The hype machine is becoming too strong with this one. Jiri Sekac was getting a lot of hype before his signing too.

Not that I think he'll do as bad as Sekac.

Sekac didn't get any hype, he sucked in the KHL before he came to NHL. It's just he looked good in his 1st season on Montreal, and it made all the hype.

In all fairness, I don't begrudge a Nashville fan being unhappy about this. Actually, I don't begrudge them that one bit.

It's kind of like having your girlfriend, who you thought loved you, turn down your proposal and then go on The Bachelorette.
