If he's meeting with the Islanders today, I'm surprised he's not meeting with the Rangers. Although is he going city to city or is everyone going to him?

The Pens are sending Bill Guerin to recruit Vesey, according to Josh Yohe. There's probably not many better guys the Penguins could have sent, Guerin is really well respected among USA hockey and he has experienced first hand what playing with Crosby is like. It's definitely a different look than sending some 60 year old GM.

Everyone is going to him. I would imagine it's just a scheduling/logistics thing as to why NJD/NYI are today and NYR are probably tomorrow. Happens.

If it were the other way around (he goes to teams), I have no doubt he'd meet with all three teams on a single day.

Playing wing for the Isles is certainly the best way to get a lucrative contract down the line from the Sabres. Vesey playing the long game. That's a Harvard education at work right there.

These actions by these players only hurts the future college bound kids and their chances at making the NHL.

No they don't.

There's already enough incentive for college kids to sign ELCs before they graduate. There's nothing wrong with there being a few rare cases where there is an offer on the table but the player is OK going four years without being paid.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason CHL players don't ever exploit this rule is that they really have nowhere to play once they turn 21 if they don't sign with their NHL club. Correct?

Essentially correct. Technically, they could play somewhere, but it never happens. Which is exactly why it's not an apples to apples comparison.

It's different because a CHL player would just be wasting his life away waiting for UFA status. An NCAA player is getting an education while playing in a good league.

There should be a system in place that allows GMs to encourage their prospects to finish their degrees, rather than pressuring them to drop out and sign.

Come to the Burgh, Jimmy. LW on Sid's line is vacant and the Pens window is open for the foreseeable future.

I dont have a dog in this race so I dont really care what mr. vesey does .

I am surprised though that after 2 lockouts the college loophole route hasnt been closed .

It's not a loophole.

Why should a team that invests little (often nothing) in a player keep their rights in perpetuity simple because they called their name from a podium?

Edit: I see the CHL issue has already been addressed.

Honest question, is the hawks books in 2019 good enough to afford him long term if he pans out?

I'd assume they'll extend panarin before that as well.

If it was really that big of a deal (it's not) the solution I'd propose is:
(I'd be in favour of doing the same to the CHL and getting rid of draft re-entry for selected players as well.)

Two years post draft of guaranteed evaluation time for all players, just like the CHL currently
If the team offers a contract but the player elects to stay in school/play junior overage/ go to europe for years 3 and 4 they each burn an elc year for the drafting team only
If the team does not extend an for year prior to the start of years 3 and 4 player becomes a UFA at the end of the non-offered year
Player is RFA upon conclusion of 4th year, but drafting team does not having matching rights.
Player is UFA if unsigned by end of 5th year.

Result:
Player is insentivized to sign with drafting team as they have a faster route to second contract.
NCAA Player still has freedom of choice same as a CHL player could have, but drafting team is compensated (based on RFA schedule) if another team thinks the player is worth it.

Can't see why we're not in on Vesey.

"Come play with Giroux and Voracek"

I imagine they are, and he would prob have a great shot at hitting his bonuses.

But,,,,,Hexy isn't the guy to guarantee him a top 6 spot tho, or any roster spot so probably not a top option for him.

It's obviously more than just picking a team with good players at this point (of which there are many).

So looks like all the front running teams are going tomorrow. Smart move to keep those teams fresh in his head when he makes the decision.

Panarin is the only one they need to re-sign next year, no one looking for huge contract the year after.
That's not bad for team that's close to being a top contender.

Panarin will get $6M-$7M. They already have $56,421,795 committed for 9 players. Panarin puts them at $63M-$64M for 10 players.

Do it Shero! We could use another scoring winger.

Hall
Palmieri
Cammalleri
Vesey
Boucher

That's starting to look like a pretty strong core of wingers. Too bad we can't seem to find a true #1C.

How would your teams line-up look with Vesey?

---

Komarov-Matthews-Nylander
JVR-Bozak-Marner
Vesey-Kadri-Soshnikov
Martin-Laich-Hyman/Greening/Leivo/Brown

Kadri is going to be shielding the rookies, not the other way around.

All of the teams going today minus the Islanders have been considered front runners from one source or another. There are like 6 front runners for Vesey right now.

Outside of the 4th line, the 3 lines aren't in any order.

I predict the Bozak/JVR and Kadri line to get most of the 'tough' minutes as well, I just threw the lines out.

I'm not entirely sure what the Pens would go with if Vesey signed with them. Vesey will probably only be given a chance to battle with Wilson and Sheary for a spot, I doubt he'd be given a guaranteed spot. If the Pens stick with HBK, I'd imagine their top line would be one of Vesey, Wilson or Sheary with Crosby and Hornqvist.

Stylistically, Vesey could be a very good fit with Crosby.

If the Pens do sign Vesey, I think he will do wonders with them IMHO.

Nashville drafted him #66 3rd rnd. and they received from Buffalo a 3rd rnd. pick. They lost a very promising prospect but they didn't get nothing in return - they got a 3rd rnd. pick.

Ok so they got a third for a top prospect. A bit better I suppose..

Come to Carolina Jimmy!

Come play with Victor Rask...uh
Come play with Jordan Staal...uh
Come play with Lee Stempniak...uh

Nevermind, on second thought, come for the pulled pork!

Bergevin - "Come play with Desharnais on the top line............*silence........Jimmy?..Jimmy"......
