I guess they hope they can dump him on a cap floor team if needed.

The only problem there, Is that they still get hit with the cap recapture penalty should Hossa retire early. And that's most likely to happen. When he was with Detroit he had said that he didn't want to play past 40 and yet signed a deal taking him up to 42 years of age. I guess his health will dictate what he does here.

How would your teams line-up look with Vesey?

---

Komarov-Matthews-Nylander
JVR-Bozak-Marner
Vesey-Kadri-Soshnikov
Martin-Laich-Hyman/Greening/Leivo/Brown

I'd say there is a high potential that he is on Matthews wing - If he has a decent camp.

Could see Babcock eventually going with: (I know he said Nylander-Matthews, but camp can change things)

Komarov-Kadri-Nylander
JvR-Bozak-Marner
Vesey-Matthews-?? (Martin/Brown/Hyman/Michalek/Laich/Greening/Leivo/)
Mix of the () above

A sales pitch of playing with Matthews isn't bad. I understand teams like the Pens and Hawks have a ready now, sure thing roster - but if he doesn't come out of the gate like Panirin and others, he could filter down pretty quickly on a win-now team. Gives him the option of 'getting his feet wet' with some like minded players/coaches. (Buffalo and a handful of others have a similar pitch)

"So what's Toronto like, Auston?"

"Ummm...well...from the hotel to the training facility, it's pretty cool...a lot of traffic d'oh. Then, from the training facility back to the hotel...well...a lot of traffic."

Left Wing on Krejci's line.

When DK has had good wingers, they've all scored close to 30 goals while all having great seasons (Horton/Lucic/Iggy/Seguin)

Granted all the above mentioned are very good players all got paiiiiiiddddd on their next contracts.

Bruins are the best fit for Vesey in all aspects thus I believe he will be a Bruin come Thursday.

I'm fine with him signing in Boston. I'd much rather it be Buffalo, but Boston isn't going to be contending any time soon, so if they did sign him it's not going to give them the depth needed to contend. On that note, I'll be ticked if he signs with TO. They're a team with the potential to be a contender, and Vesey would provide some nice depth on the wings assuming he pans out.

Of course I still believe he ends up in Buffalo. Time will tell!

You do realize a player has to be legitimately injured to be eligible for LTIR?

You're wouldn't believe the amount of comments on tbe Hawks board saying this exact same thing, it's mind boggling to say the least. A player will not go on LTIR unless it's true and doctors have to give the green light that there is a diagnosis. I doubt there is a doctor that will do it unless he really can't play. Also the Hawks as an organization will be embarrassed if the news came out that it was fake. Not happening.

What is his pitch?

1) what a pleasure it is negotiating an ELC contract with Lou. Cant wait to do it again on my next contract
2) My teammates are awesome based on 3 days of development camp last month

I understand this argument and it is fair.

I think though he's going to show how they are going to develop prospects and all of facilities/trainers/technology at the Leafs disposal.

I would think the simple presence of a first overall pick is enticing if Vesey's looking for a team on the rise. Matthews is a part of the general situation of the club right now. It makes sense that he's there.

I don't see a problem with the Leafs bringing Matthews. He's likely to be their marquee player for years to come so why not. As far as his pitch?

"Look Jimmy, these guys are doing it right and I've seen it first hand. They've been through the tough times and have restocked the pipeline with some solid talent. We are on the knee of the curve and it won't be long before this team will be a force to be reckoned with and you can be a big part of it".

Same sales pitch Buffalo has (- the Eichel friendship angle).

Classy organization. Ok then. I'm sure that being classy is what attracts these FAs. Sure are classy by trading away all of their depth because they can't afford to re-sign them.

Resigning players doesn't make you classy or not... It's a business. And in recent years they have been the best in the league at managing the cap and restocking depth players for cheap.

If being "classy" meant resigning every single player that is ever on your team, then no "classy" organization would ever win the Cup.

The real question is whether or not the Leafs also brought the Mayor and the CEO of Canadian Tire to seal the deal.

Yes and I guess you are aware of the fact, that Hossa's injury history is quite varied. Concussion history, he had a really serious back-injury etc..

I'm not saying, again, that this is likely scenario. But there is a legit chance. I don't think no-one is even counting on that, but the fact how Panthers have managed with Bolland and Leafs with Robidas, anything is possible.

More likely scenario is that cap is going to rise with $10 million in next two seasons, but I don't count on that either.

Hossa had not had any concussion problems in 5 years, he had one concussion and he seems to have recovered fully. His back has not bothered him for 3+ years now and has not missed a game with that injury. He has some small injuries here and there which in total are about 30 games in the last 5 seasons which is peanuts in the NHL. Doubt either of those problems hurt him long term.

That's pretty silly.

Buffalo told Eichel to court him.
What is silly about bringing a potential teammate (linemate) Gives them the opportunity to talk normally, less tense - potentially clears a little air and has someone talk to him as a player/former US team/etc ; than just hearing old suits talking all the time.

Don't understand why it's a problem, even if Matthews is very new to the team.
